Description
Hello Amazing people out-there,
Looking between 15 April till 15 June and between 15 August tot 15 November.
Or convince us to host you .
Hosting from 2 weeks .
But ideal looking for long term., longer than two months . In that case , feel free to contact us outside those periods.
In that case paid position could be available after that period .
DISCONNECT TO RECONNECT: UNPLUG FOR INCREASED HAPPINESS
We love , energetic , ADHD , and LGBTIQ+ people .
Watch out !!!! This is a remote place. Except of internet and a shepherd , complete off grid and lonely, but a comfy stay .
This place isn't a cheap holiday destination. What you see know has cost us (me, my friends, children and workawayers) a very big amount of enthousiasme, time, positive energy, physical energy, injuries, money, sleepless nights, sweat, tears, blood, arguments, frustration and A LOT of patience. The minimum we expect from the people who wants to share this experience is respect, to treat each other and the house with love and to be careful not to damage or break down what we have build with so much effort.
You hit an amazing cool/hot/fancy place to stay, want to know more about it?
Drinking some coffee/tea, watching the sunrise/-set above the mountains, look at the stars with no light pollution , that is how our cave sets in Nature . Completely off gird with the smallest footprint possible .
We live in a cave house.( Natural Earthship ) on the top of a Clif ( great view ), solar power , own well. 35 minutes in car to some civilization. At 1017 meters altitude, on our own 18 ha, 13, 2 acres.
An opportunity to experience a life in outstanding beauty, with pure air, no light pollution, a warm climate, in a friendly safe environment in the middle of nature. Watch out , Andalucía is very hot in the summer( but nice in the evening), but can be cold in the winter and rainy. There's no Wifi out in nature, but I promise, you will not find a better connection.
Simple life happy life. Try to go zero waste.
At this moment we are on a quest for different personalities and skills :
1) Long term stays as we both agree , we loved them . Paid position available after try out.
2) Also looking for massage and bee keepers ..
3) people who love gardening
4) house sitting and animal care .
5) Or just convince us we have to host you :-) (It worked already several times. Teach us about your skills and we will certainly consider your proposal. We love to learn.
Works to do :
, in the option of house sitting , animal care .
Working in the veggie garden .( spring and summer )
cleaning and maintaining the propriety
Household duties
Watch out : We are at 1100 meter, so we can have 19 degrees and sunshine , but also freezing , snow and rain .
When we wrote , like house-sitting and garden , that will be the main activity , but alain has a lot of other funny works around his sleeve and depends also what you like to do .
It seems that a lot of people have a very romantic idea about a self sufficient house or way of living. Well, it surely is something beautiful, but not easy for people who doesn't have any previous experience with it or don't know what to expect. So here it goes a summary of reality:
Inside the house we can't have 22 degrees, also not 21, we will be happy with 20º C.. The wood for the fireplace doesn't grow in the woodshed (as some people seem to think) and isn't for free either. So that when finally the winter arrives and we get to burn the firewood, we do it with respect, weighing seriously if it is really necessary to throw another piece to the fire and not just because it's nice and fun. Because you never know how hard or long the winter is gonna be and if you will have wood enough.
There are tasks that need to be done everyday, it doesn't matter if it rains, snows or it is 40º C. outside, they just have to be done. Again, it doesn't matter if you feel like to do them or not, you just have to... that's life in a self sufficient house in the middle of nowhere.
*If you decide to contact us, please have in mind that about 95% (and much probably 100%) of the people volunteering as workawayers love traveling, nature, hiking, meditation, good (preferably) healthy food, learning to know other cultures, learning to know other people, practising or learning another language, outdoors, animals, music, etc... and that's normally the kind of information we can read in your profile. But what we really need to know (at least in our Workaway host) is what you expect from this experience and what you're willing to offer as a volunteer and as a person.
**Also, after thinking about it for over half a year, today we decided to set a minimum age limit at 22, this because even when I explain everything here I sadly have to keep on playing the mother role with the people between 18 and 22. Of course not with all of them, but sadly with most of them and I'm simply very very tired of that!!
So now, if you did read until here, welcome to our profile! :D
We are :
Hilde, 49 years, hermit by choice , needs time alone to gain a deeper understanding of herself.
Alain 56 years, exuberant by birth and your daily specialist in fun and bad jokes .
We left the rat race and started all over here in Spain. Our intention is to create a little paradise through perm culture( adapted to the dry climat ), natural life and community.
We have 5 dogs (rescued from dog shelters) and 3 cats.In addition, 3 chicken. We also have our own bird of prey, a red-tailed hawk. (The only 100 % non-vegetarian) We expect everybody to connect with all the animals.
We do love board games like Munchkin, Carcassonne, the Village, Santoska, Catan (Star Trek ) and poker ( not with money :-) ) We love to interact with you .
Your skills are:
People who want to life the dream with us.
Honesty, trustful, reliability and open-minded, respect for other people's stuff and privacy, kindness, are really important to us. One important thing I will say is that I do not get on with anyone who is judgmental or prejudice in any way against race, gender or sexuality. We do not get on with bullies or small minded people.
Sometimes when you lose your way, you find yourself here. Be sure you want it. You might be greater as you suspect. De-connect to connect. . Get your mind free again .
We cannot accept volunteers with pets or drug or alcohol habits. Also kids are not welcome due to the slopes and the big dogs. Better save then sorry .
Also anyone who does not fulfill the time that you agree to stay with for what ever reason apart from death may have to make their own way back to the bus station. We are fed up with people not keeping their promises ans afterwards find out that instead flying home for their dying relatives , are partying in a big city . Please note that we will give you a bad report, as this is just bad manners and totally inexcusable on your part. They get a negative review .
We can’t afford to waste time parenting immature ones, or chasing after people to not to use a month’s resources in a day.
If potential workawayers book to come and stay with us and then do not arrive for what ever excuse .
Once we have accepted someone we do not give back word or not turn up to meet you!! We expect the same from You .
If you find this offensive then you are probably this type of person!
If you do not find it offensive then you are the one for us!! (Reliable).
If you apply to us, put "happiness" in your answer. So we know you read it all . You can also put in "

Transport : There is a bus to Orce from granada every day except Saturday. On Sunday it is a late bus , but you have to look first from Granada to Baza and then from Baza to Orce. Sometimes you have to switch bus in Baza .
Hitchhiking is difficult to here, but not impossible . We can pick you up at the bus stop .
All other possibilities can be discussed depending from where you are coming .
We will help you to find the most easy way by plane, train , bus or all other forms of transportation.
The big attraction of the cave houses is the fact that you feel in a cave house like in the nature. That security, peace, tranquility and beauty of nature. An additional advantage of the cave dwellings is the constant temperature. It’s always fluctuates between 18 and 22 degrees.( not heated 16°C ) An asset should not be underestimated in a climate like that of Andalusia where it is easily 40 degrees in the summer. "In a cave house is cool in summer and warm in winter. " In the winter the cave maintains 21°C with one log burner and in the summer the same but without the log burner . :-)
Who wants to live in a cave? Well it would appear that many people all around the world have found caves to be a very practical and in lots of cases a luxurious form of dwelling. They can have all the mod cons and of course not forgetting the eco credentials of the natural insulate properties of living in a home with more than meter thick walls and meters of rock or hard clay as a roof. So if you fancy something a little different with an eco-slant then get yourself over to the Granada province of sunny Spain and have a scout around.
This area is also abundant with mountains, natural parks and beautiful white washed villages, what are you waiting for?
In Orce there is a fantastic free natural swimming pool which is great place to spend some time. If you like walking or cycling the opportunities are endless.
The Andalusian village of Orce may be small, but is nevertheless of remarkable importance in the search of the first traces mankind in Iberia, with archaeological digs uncovering proof of settlers there from millions of years ago. In the far north of the Granada Province and bordering onto the Province of Almeria, the village of Orce is a also true discovery for anyone in search of real Andalusia. It is 926 meters above sea level and has a population of just over 1,400. At just 150 kilometres from the City of Granada, it is easily accessible by road. Orce is one of the six main villages of the region of Huéscar (pronounced 'Wescar'). This whole area, together with the neighbouring region of Baza is known as the Altiplano de Granada.
The people in the main village of Orce and in the three nearby hamlets of Fuente Nueva, Venta Micena and Pozo de la Rueda enjoy a simple rural life. The prehistoric relics include the much discussed and significant historical remains of a skull, which has become known as "El Hombre de Orce" (Orce Man). There are also fascinating and significant remains of an ancient city from the Bronze Age.
The natural surroundings are as breath-taking as the historic heritage is evident. As is the way with the southern Spanish, traditions and local cooking are taken seriously and the combination of all this elements, promises that a visit to Orce will be a real delight to the senses.
Like the other villages in Huéscar, the dramatic contrasts between lush pastoral landscape and dry flatland is one of the main attractions and something which very much sets it apart from other parts of Andalusia.
There are very interesting ancient archaeological sites at Orce: Fuente Nueva, Barranco del Paso, Barranco León and Venta Micena. It was in this last find that the cranial remains of, what is now known as, "Hombre de Orce" (Orce Man) were found.
Traditionally the local economy was based on agriculture and breeding livestock, with a particular emphasis on the famous segureña lamb, famous and much sought after for its exquisite flavor.
Many ancient stone utensils have been found and there are thought to be many human fossils still to be discovered. To date, the Fuente Nueva site is the most important of the four in Orce, for the large amount of flint, dolomitic limestone which are related to rhinoceros, hippopotamus, elephants and other mammals.
As well as these traces of ancient species, there are also archaeological remains, on of great interest being 'el cerro de la virgen' (the hill of the virgin), where you can see the remains of a Bronze Age village dating back to 2,500BC.
Orce is truly rich in historic and architectural heritage, as can be seen with the Segura Palace of the 16th - 17th century, the church of the 17th century and many stately homes.
The fortress style castle at Orce is testament to its rich historic past. The Alcazaba de las Siete Torres (Fortress of Seven Towers) was built in stages, from the 6th century and was not finished until the Christian era in the 16th century, spanning a millennium of cultural changes.Informations complémentaires
