Hi, we are Chris and Sultan, and a few years earlier we built the first earthbag structures in Turkey. Now we have embarked on another project and are building the first legally permitted earthbag house in Turkey. We live in a small house in a very old village south of Izmir and our land is 2 kilometers away. Our land and all the surrounding lands is hilly and covered with lots of olive trees. There are lots of dirt roads that go in different directions so lots of great walking. On weekends we like to drive down to the sea and swim in the Aegean about 40 minutes away so you'll be able to join us. Our last project was a camp in Kabak Valley southern Turkey and we worked with lots of volunteers over the years.

We're building a large area using the earthbag system so there's lots of filling up bags with earth. As you work you'll learn the system of building. Later, we'll also use natural mud and lime plasters for the walls. We'll use lots of natural branches from regenerative trees and bushes for the roof and railings and we'll be stripping those of their bark and sanding them. Besides that we may need help with cooking, dishes, cleaning etc.
Accomodation will be in camping tents with a mattress, pillow, sheets etc. on the land. We're using a compost toilet and there is a kitchen. Depending on our water situation we will either shower at the land or in our house in the village. There is internet coverage on the land but if you don't have a smart phone then you can use the internet in our village house.
Beyler Village is a pretty quiet place. Most villagers take their goats and sheep out in the morning and tend them during the day. The two main sources of income for villagers are their olive trees and grapes. Some of the villagers make their own wine which is pretty good. The city of Izmir is big and about an hour away. The closest town to us is Seferihisar which is about 30 minutes down the hill. We can pick you up from Seferihisar or else from Menderes which is on the other side of the mountain. If you're a reader bring some books and you'll enjoy yourself in the shade of an olive tree. Walking is plentiful. Sunsets from our house in the village are really great as well!
