Description

I'm Dave, I'm 28 years old from Derby in the UK. I'm travelling for a year or two, starting in April 2023 and I'm currently seeking to book in Workaways from January 2023 onwards. I have a university degree in English and History and have spent the past 3 years running a restaurant and bar. I have now closed the business and am looking to explore more of the world and immerse myself in new cultures and lifestyles.

I love to experience different cultures and environments, and want to become a more rounded and fruitful human being. My family often visit Scotland where I spend a lot of my time hiking and foraging, and enjoying the outdoors away from the business of the inner cities. I have lots of volunteering experience, particularly in schools and with children, and have been volunteering since the age of 15. I did my first Workaway in 2017 and had a great experience in India, and I am looking forward to many more in the future.

I believe in equality, fairness, and respect for nature and all of nature's beings. I am at the stage in my life where I would love to learn and expand my knowledge as much as I can. I have many passions and hobbies including hiking, foraging, reading, gardening and cooking (I'm vegetarian and I'm happy to cook for myself and others). I love the outdoors and nature, and thrive when I am in these types of surroundings.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am a native English speaker and I set up and have been the director of an award-winning restaurant for the past 3 years. Over these years I have gained plenty of experience in managing staff, admin associated with running a business, working within a team, marketing online (including social media), customer service, cooking delicious plant-based food, mixology, flavour-pairing and more.

I've run successful social media marketing campaigns for my business and became the most-followed independent restaurant in my city on Instagram within 2 years of opening. I am good with technology and am able to use a number of computer programs including Office apps and Adobe Photoshop proficiently.

I am also a nature-lover, I have experience volunteering for permaculture food growing projects, as well as growing my own fruit and vegetables for a few years. I have a keen interest in mushrooms and plants as well as wild food foraging. I like to give back to nature for what nature provides me.

I have past volunteering experience in schools (teaching English to ages 8-16), summer camps for young people, and a community gardening project, and I have paid work experience in teaching English, gardening and hospitality.
