Hello. My name is Virginia Gallo. I am an Italian-Argentinean book editor who loves to explore the world.

I´m single, I have no children, but my nephews are the apple of my eyes; I could say that being away from my nephews and nieces is the only thing that forces me to come home twice a year.

I am a professional who loves art and nature. I´m tidy, super clean (my friends call me Monica Geller), non-smoker, chill, open mind and easy-going person, trustworthy, respectful and always willing to help others.

I am not a party person, but I enjoy cooking and sharing with the people I live with. I am
a trained pastry chef, I am interested in nutrition and healthy lifestyle and I´m a passionate lover of plants and gardening.
What else can I tell you?
I write, I like to paint in my free time and I love tango. I also love scuba diving, hiking and cycling.
I have lived in Argentina, France and Ireland, Australia and have travelled extensively around the world.

I am excited to explore Southeast Asia in the least touristy way possible, surrounded by locals from whom I can learn their culture, have authentic experiences and share what I can bring to them.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
Although my primary professional training was rather intellectual (I have a degree in Philosophy, I did a master's degree in art and I did up to the fourth year of medicine) I always developed my manual skills and I have worked in NGO's with vulnerable people most of my life, teaching, managing or covering the role that is needed. Multi-tasking is something that those of us who do community work well understand.
I have a curiosity as a child. I am interested in exploring the world and knowing how it works without losing the wonder and doing.
I love teaching, painting and sculpture, restoration of old things, home repair projects and gardening; I prune, plant, make and care for a vegetable garden, use most of the construction tools, I know how to repair simple electrical devices such as lamps. I have knowledge of carpentry and painting.
I handle design programs and the web in general.
I have taken many cooking and pastry courses and I love to cook healthy food and I enjoy cleaning.
I also have extensive experience in caring for others. Community service has always been an important part of my life and I have always dedicated myself to it in different NGOs since I was 17 years old. So, Communication and Teamwork are other of my personals skills.
I speak Spanish, English and quite French and Italian.

Ray is a good host. He is outgoing and quite an easygoing person. He is a generous person, he opens the doors of his house to you in a broad sense: he introduces you to his friends, he tells you about his rich personal history, he advises you on trips and projects that you want to do in Ireland always with good judgment. He lives with his dog Jessie who is the greatest dog ever (Sometimes I remember her as if she was not a dog, so human! Haha)

LOCATION: The location is unbeatable if you want to know the west of Ireland and even a little more. The train station is 1 minute from the house so you leave the house and in 2 hours you are in Dublin or visit Cork, Limerick or any destination that you see on the map where there is a train station. And you can do it as a day trip and return to Athenry at night. That is an advantage in times of COVID because you will not be so exposed to hotels; also that the train is safer than the bus.

YOUR ROOM: Your own space is comfortable. The only thing you have to keep in mind and that I did not know until I was there is that Ray also rents the house where you are staying, including your room, when the guests who rent are many and then you have to find where to stay. Ray kindly offers you to stay with him in a studio that he has, but I preferred to have my own space. (This happened three times during my six weeks there, even with the COVID situation there was not high demand). So think about it beforehand or ask him to at least notify you in advance so you can book a hotel (I took the opportunity to travel on those opportunities, but if he gives you a short notice, you don't always get something good). I took the opportunity to travel and get to know other places on the days that I didn't have a room.

CULTURAL EXPERIENCE: He wants you to have a cultural experience, not just go to work.
That is something that one appreciates in a host. He likes to share in life; a dinner, a concert, a movie, and he will probably propose to share something else. Hahaha. But you say “No” and everything is fine. You will probably have to say “NO” more than once but even with some not entirely comfortable situation it is a safe place and he is a good person.

ABOUT WORK: He respects work hours and is flexible with the schedule so you won't have a problem with that. He always has a smile and a good mood.
The tasks are varied, cleaning the online rental property, assisting him in the construction or remodelling project that Ray is embarking on the moment you go, some gardening perhaps. Don't worry that you don't need to be qualified in any area.
Ray is a good tourism advisor. He recommended good places to visit. And as he is flexible with the organization of working time, I could work three full days and travel 4, for instance.
For him work is fun, so if you need a boost you can get his energy. He always has positive energy.
