I would like to describe myself as a Traveller...explorer, volunteer...I retired in 2016 to purse my passion of Social work and travel. Since my retirement from Corporate work, have completed more than 800 hours of Volunteering and Community Service in India and in Spain, Italy and Germany. I have had the oppurtunity to work in several areas such as

Am a professionally qualified accountant from India and have worked for the past 15 years in the Financial Services Sector (Securities Market) to be precise. I can speak 4 languages, Marathi, Tamil, English and Hindi very well.
I am an excellent communicator in English, since it was our first language throughout our school, college and working life. I have participated in numerous English conversation practice programmes in Spain, Germany & Italy sofar.

I love watching English premier league...reading...watching movies...chatting and sharing stories with friends. My friends find me as a very good listener. I am extremely responsible and committed in everything that i do. I enjoy running, yoga and hitting the gym to keep my health in reasonable shape.

It was my first experience of volunteering through Workaway. Infact, it was the first long term volunteering experience of my life. Naturally, i was very apprehensive about the whole programme and how i would be able to fit in.

All my fears and worries were unfounded. Right from my first interaction with the volunteer co ordinator Mrs Urvashi to… read more the interview process, to helping me understand the entire programme, it was very seamless and professionally managed. Urvashi was on hand to help address every doubts that I had about the programme. Urvashi's presence and involvement inspired a lot of confidence in me and my family leading up to my trip.

I started my volunteering in the middle of December, 2023. During my stay, i was treated with lots of love and respect by the people at this place. The school children and the children from Manipur are real sweethearts who always gave us a lot of respect and acceptance. Since the place has an active volunteering programme, i had the opportunity to interact and collaborate with other volunteers from various countries.

I could participate in several Social, religious and cultural activities. For people who are new to Indian culture, volunteering here may be the best way to experience a mix of culture, tradition, religion and social aspects of India. Some of the highlights of my trip were the Mass wedding of 200 couples, Birding trip with children at Pariyej wetland, Udaipur trip with the students, celebrating Kite festival etc. We were exposed to several charitable and social activities for the service of the society on an ongoing basis. We also had the opportunity to experience some local sight seeing, Gujarati cuisine and traditions.

I was able to help out the students primarily in Hindi and English and life skills using a mix of audio, video, films etc to help them learn valuable lessons. The facilities are of the highest standard with the school, hostel facilities, library, play ground, temple, volunteer guest house, Gau shala, elder care home etc located in the same premises. The campus is located off a busy highway, but the silence and solitude that you experience here is amazing. I was able to enjoy long walks, yoga, my runs etc without any hassle during my free time.

I was here for slightly less than two months and if i have to sum it up in a few words, i would say Jai Swami Narayan, an Unforgettable experience. I have left behind a piece of my heart and am carrying all the love and affection from the students with me as I embark on my next journey. I hope and pray that I am able to be back soon.

This was Prasad’s first workaway and he volunteered with us for 2 months with such devotion and enthusiasm. During his stay he taught the Rushikumar boys who had arrived from Manipur, taught in the main mixed school as well as the hostel boys.

Prasad is fluent in English and Hindi so we were fortunate to allocate him classes for both the subjects… read more as well as spiritual and computer lessons. Prasad is a very experienced professional and carried out several presentations on life skills to help the hostel boys as well as the staff on a number of new and interesting topics.

He taught English classes with a range of materials, contributing to the development of writing, reading, speaking and listening. He covered for absent teachers at short notice which has been a great help to the school during emergency cover and also helped with invigilating during exams.

He brought with him new ideas on teaching and learning as well as contributing to outdoor activities, played indoor and outdoor games with the boys in the afternoon as well as provided one to one support during study hours in the hostel in the evenings.

Prasad has been a great help with helping other volunteers settle in the campus as well as navigate through the local language during visits outside the campus. Prasad is someone who is very humble and down to earth, any task given to him in the campus during outside school hours was done with great dedication and a smile. He has helped in the kitchen to make pizza, pack biscuits and anything else that was needed without any hesitation.

Prasad joined us on a 4-day Educational school trip to Udaipur where he was given the responsibility of a team of boys ensuring they had a fruitful, safe and memorable trip. Prasad also made a huge contribution in organising a day trip to Pareij wetlands with the rest of the volunteers.

Prasad has been instrumental in providing one to one support in helping some of the Swami’s learn and improve their English language skills. This is something we have not been able to do in the past. He has also helped the volunteer co-ordinator and the management team with updating key documents relating to this volunteer programme as well as draft new documents and temples for future use.

December and January months are our busiest each year where we have a lot of cultural events as well programmes to support the community and underprivileged. Prasad has taken part and contributed to each and every event in the campus during his entire stay, e.g. Mass weddings, Fun Fair, Pilgrim walk, tricycle, walking, sewing machine distribution.

It has been a pleasure having Prasad for 2 months, all the teachers, staff and students will miss him a lot and we hope he will return again to see his boys progress. We wish Prasad well in everything he does in the future.
