  • Description

    Hey everyone!

I'm Carina, 26 years old and originally from Hamburg, Germany but moved to Vienna (Austria) some time ago!
I haven't been traveling for quite a bit of time, but just rediscovered my passion for it when I went to Coratia for a few days on my own - just sitting by the seaside was amazing.
I first discovered what traveling means to me during my gap year back in 2014, when I first visited Ireland with a good friend and later England and Scotland as well. We mostly stayed with workaway hosts and those were the most wonderful experiences we ever had! I have also traveled to Nicaragua where I worked in a social project.

Generally about me, one could say that I'm an openhearted and -minded person who likes to laugh a lot! There is so much more out there to see and do for me, and I think workaway is the best possibility to do it with.
Right now I'm studying Science-Technolog-Society Studies (STS) in Vienna and am always interested in current political debates.
Some of my hobbies are creative writing, reading, playing saxophone and photographing. I try to advocate for intersectional climate justice (meaning social, gender, racial... justice) and love to hear different thoughts on how the world should look like in 2050.

A few years ago I had lots of workaway experiences since I have worked in hostels, a hotel (helped out with serving, painting, clearing out, the hotel- owned cettle market), an English pub, as translators for walking routes, on an organic farm and as Au-pairs. I'm always open for any kind of work and eager to learn.

I hope this gave you a bit of an impression of me, feel free to ask me if you have any questions!

    Have a wonderful day!
    Carina

Though my workaway experiences have been quite a while ago, I still have a hands-on attitude. I've come to work in very different places - from bar or ticket service at a festival or open airs in Hamburg, to working in politics.

    Previous Workaway experiences (2014-2015):

    - My friend and I both worked in the Glendalough International Hostel for 4 weeks, we were helping with the cleaning of the rooms and sometimes of the kitchen (do the beds, hoovering, mobbing, clean the bathrooms)

    - We translated walking notes for Footfalls Working Ireland

    - We both worked in a wonderful host family in Ireland in the small town of Clonakilty. There we were responsible for general household chores, food preparation and cooking (especially healthy cooking, the mother is a nutritionalist) and caring for the boys, sometimes doing homework with them.

    - We also worked in the Peacockes Hotel in Connemara where we originally came for to paint which we ended up only doing 2 days and the rest of our stay consisted of various tasks, for example: help at the Lifestock Market next to the hotel with organizing papers, administrate the craftshop which also belonged to the hotel, catering (event of 70 people), help clearing off tables in the bar at busy times and doing christmas decorations.

    - after that we worked in the Everton Hostel in Liverpool where we had breakfast shifts, cleaning shifts a check-in shifts

-we then had a short stay with a lovely woman in Scotland and helpes her and her mother with dog walking, unpacking, cleaning and just generally tidying up

-our next station was the Grampus Inn in North Devon where our tasks varied from outside gardening work to clearing out space, to waiting and cleaning off tables and we mainly helped in the kitchen. Moreover, I helped the owner with barreling since the Pub brews a few own beers

    - the last workaway stop on our Ireland and UK-Trip was the South Farm near Cambridge which is also a wedding venue. We were helping on the smallholding and with the animals, that included: cropping (mainly salad and Pak Choi), weeding, sowing (Pak Choi), planting (asparagus) collecting eggs, clean out the henhouse, general clearing tasks (e.g. pulling out brusselsprouts, cleaning of the winterboxes in front of the greenhouse), feeding the pigs and chickens, move the pigs to other paddocks (once) and our main tasks there: the strawberrytyre project. We had 400 tyres which we organized and put into a structure top create strawberry beds, then we filled them up together with other workers, it was really hard but enjoyable work and the result is amazing!

    Other:

-I had an internship in a kindergarten for 3 weeks and sometimes looked after my little cousin, so I am experienced with childcare

    - I worked at the doctor's office of my aunt as a temporary help (I am not educated on this subject, therefore you can see that I learn quickly and can easily adapt to new situations)

    - I have experience with painting (mainly rooms but also a bit of outside painting)

    - I love pets (grew up with dogs) and all other animals and enjoy working with them!
