Description
We are a small family of three - Grace, Owen and Oisín (pronounced Ush-een), living on a family farm in Northeast Tasmania. We are working to transition the 117-hectare property to a regenerative, small-scale dairy. The farm is home to 20 hectares of remnant temperate rainforest, lots of wildlife, and our growing herd of cows. We keep chickens and have a very friendly farm dog, called Luan. There are wallabies, wombats, bandicoots, platypus, and all kinds of wildlife on the farm. It's a quiet, rural setting that is paradise for people who love the outdoors.

Owen grew up here, Grace moved from Ireland in 2015, and Oisín came into our lives one year ago. He keeps us both busy, as does the farm, and my PhD which I am doing in local economics. We both travelled a lot before settling on the farm, and love meeting and hosting people from all over the world. We are new to workaway, but have hosted volunteers and travellers in other places we have lived. Owen has a background in Enivronmental Science, speaks German and some Arabic, and is passionate about this land. Grace is in her first year of a PhD on local community economics and adjusting to life as a new mother. We lost Owen's father this year, so this is a big period of transition for us on the farm. Owen's mum lives nearby and is a big part of our life. She is an artist and is very active in the local community. Owen loves to play music, and currently plays a lot of lullabys on his piano. We think this is a relaxing, comfortable and rich place to learn about the environment, farming, Australian history, politics and local ways of living.

We want whoever stays with us to firstly enjoy this beautiful place and find a project that fits their interests. But we have lots of things we need help with - veggie garden, building and DIY projects (repairing sheds, the chicken house or building a compost toilet), maintaining the grounds around the house, tree-planting, chopping wood, cooking meals, entertaining our little one, etc....).

We have a two-bedroom house, with fully fitted kitchen, bathroom, living room space and deck to be used by guests. It is simple but really comfortable and has some privacy from the main farmhouse. There is one room with a Queen-sized bed, and a small single room.
Autres infos...
The farm itself is full of beautiful walks, temperate rainforest, wildlife and nature. It is located just 12 km from the local small town, and 27km from the nearest coastal town, which has access to beautiful beaches. There are wineries, hillwalking options, and the nearest city is 70km away. The mountain-bike riding mecca of Derby is just 40km away. Tasmania is such a stunning place to be, there are too many places and things to see to mention.
We have very busy schedules, with our 1-year old, the farm and my studies, but when we do have free time, we like to have friends over for shared meals, go camping by the coast, visit friends in the city or go to local arts events.Informations complémentaires
