  Description

  We are Nicaragua's first and only freediving center! Located in a volcanic caldera surrounded on all sides by a tropical dry forest, the Laguna de Apoyo is home to one of the freediving world's hidden treasures - a warm, freshwater lake that is deep (over 160 meters), calm and insanely perfect for all things freediving. At our center, we use this lake to teach and train all levels and disciplines of freediving - from beginner to instructor, from static breath holds to the various depth disciplines. With a variety of courses and program options, our students may stay anywhere between one day and 6+ months, some even going on to work with us and gain experience as newly certified freediving instructors (which allows them to continue traveling the world and making an income by doing something they love!).
  
  We have 4 permanent staff operating in the maintenance, cleaning, and cooking. Additionally, we have 3 full-time freediving instructors at any given time to teach courses and lead training sessions.

  Travelers to Nicaragua will be immersed in a culture that is changing and recovering from a very difficult period. The Spanish language is spoken here, and is generally quite slow and easy to follow - perfect for those of us looking to practice our language skills! We are working closely with local staff to keep the daily operations moving, so volunteers will certainly interact with Nicaraguan kids and adults on a daily basis, allowing ample opportunity to learn more about the culture and practice some new vocabulary.
  
  And of course, it would be a crime to not mention learning/improving your freediving skills. Freediving is first and foremost at the school, so if you've ever had an interest to learn, this is an opportunity not to pass up! You can join a community of freedivers of all levels who engage with one another both in the water and socially.

  Aide

  Our center is a dynamic establishment with a broad range of development areas. We looking for individuals who are able to help with social media content creation and editing. The school is also constantly growing and evolving, so any trade skills can come in handy with the infrastructure development and systems improvements. Wellness focused and yoga teaching skills are also of interest, as we have a growing community of people looking to expand their activities outside of the water and on rest days.

  Private room with shared bathroom - fan, no A/C. Kitchen access. Volunteers will receive free lunch from our cafe menu during their time with us.

  Nicaragua is the land of surfing and volcanoes. The pacific coast is close enough to make an overnight surf trip or be the next stop on your voyage. There are plenty of volcano hikes to be done in the area. As well, we are located about 25 minutes to both Granada and Masaya, so exploring these cities and taking advantage of the lively social scene is very accessible by scooter, bus, or inexpensive taxi.
