Description
I moved from Slovenia to the island 10 years ago.
I live in the old town of Vis on my family property with my pets. Regularly i go to the other property in a secluded bay to do the work there. I live by myself and having a dog and 3 cats I am always in need for help.
My work involves a wide variety of tasks. In general i am maintaining two properties and their surroundings.
The summertime is much different here than the winter time.
In the winter time everything shuts down and not many people stay on the island. It is calm and quiet. Only few shops and bars stay opened with not many people around. The weather is not very cold and rainy but it can be humid and windy and days are shorter.
Spring and autumn are the most beautiful seasons here. Temperature is perfect and nature blooms. People start working outdoors and preparations for the summer begin.
Summer (my less favorite) is full of tourism, boats, people... It gets hot during the day and it gets hard to do anything. But the sea is here to cool us down.
I am mostly housekeeping, cleaning, washing, gardening, taking care of my animals and doing various projects.
In the bay the tiny houses are renting in the summer so i have to maintain and arrange stuff there in their surroundings and indoors, doing DIY projects, chopping bushes, fixing stone walls, sometimes i need to carry loads and do a harder work.
Therefore I wish to host people that are active, physically adept, organized, efficient and used to live in the nature or in isolated places. I welcome individuals that are engaged, attentive and can get their hands dirty. Handy and skilled people are very welcome. Good shoes are required. Another very important thing for me is keeping the place tidy, caring for animals and carefully using things like tools, house equipment,... I always ask my volunteering guests to also be conscious of water consumption and other resources.
I had few experiences when helpers wanted to just travel cheaper and I would like to avoid that kind of situations. As a volunteer you have to be aware that you are not helpful to us hosts unless you learn and engage, first you need to see what is needed and learn how to do things and then we can have a nice and fair exchange of experiences. I am hosting people to get help that i need and in exchange i offer some food, a free accommodation, show them around the island, and let them experience my island lifestyle.

If spending time by the sea is something you like, then you will enjoy this place.
On your days off you can take a hike or go for a swim, visit some beach or another town Komiža, bike, or just walk around small town and read a book. The island itself is just beautiful to see and hang around. Sometimes if there is an event happening and if i have time i can join you and show you around or go and meet some other local people.
If you like to stay active, independent and helpful then you will love it. I offer a lot of time to people to explore the island and sometimes i go along . The exchange depends on both parts and if we klick the experience can be beautiful for all.

WINTER 2025
Im looking for a tidy and organized person to petsit my 2 cats long term from november until february. I will be away for some time and occasionally coming back to the island. When asking for animal care I prefer someone who already has experience with dogs and cats and understands their nature and has a certain calm, confident and stable energy. I also wish you to come few days before i leave so you can get used to them first.
SPRING 2026
I need help for outdoor work in the bay where the terrain is very steep and rocky. I am planting trees, making gardens and chopping bushes, doing DYI and household chores and maintaining the property in town of Vis where i currently live.
The two tiny houses are distanced from Vis town about 7km and then another 10 minutes walk from the parking. Drinking water and all the other things (food, material..) needs to be brought along by hand. When I go to the bay to work that is usually from 11-12 am to 3-4 pm, 2 days in a week are free and i provide 1 vegetarian meal per day. I like to host long term (14 days or more).
There are different kinds of animals around, mice, spiders, wasps, bees and other insects but there are no poisoned animals on the island .
Some of the tasks:
- gardening and planting
- chopping bushes
- surrounding maintenance help
- help with cleaning
- repairing stony paths
- help constructing a storage, painting wood
- petsitting
SUMMER 2026
Looking for a diligent and organized person who likes to help in housekeeping chores. In the summer i need to water the garden, feed the cats and clean the tiny houses in the bay approximately twice a week. The rest of the time is free and it is possible to go swimming, visit beaches and spend a nice summer time here.

My guests have their own separate very comfortable place next to my place in town of Vis or they are settled in the bay in one of the tiny houses.
Before we come together I usually talk with my volunteers by whats app about some other details. For example about the food and routines we have. I provide one vegetarian or vegan meal per day on the day of work. The rest of the food we can individually bring to the house and share. There are some basic things in the house like oil , vinagre, spices...

Not a good transport on the island but hitchhiking or biking is an option and there is a bus going to Komiža.

If the vehicle is not too big or if you don't mind driving backwards for about 500 meters parking is above the bay - beautiful view and afternoon sun.
