  • Description

Hello! I am a professional civil engineer taking a career break to travel through Latin America. I've always wanted to do something like this to improve my Spanish, learn, and immerse myself in different cultures. I have just finished a volunteer position in the Dominican Republic this summer (2023) for a social-eco organization and am looking forward to expanding my travels to other countries. This was my first time living in another country and I am excited for more! Along with my enthusiasm for learning, strong work ethic and positive attitude, I have many transferable skills from engineering that I can bring to my new workaway experience. Most of all, I would like to learn new skills that can translate into a new career of service. What brings me the most joy are acts of service for the benefit of other people. I know I will find that during my future travels. Thank you for reading!

  • More details about your skills

I am a professional Civil Engineer with 14 years of experience in engineering project management and design. My expertise is consulting and structural design services to owners and developers across commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential markets. Throughout my career, the projects I have enjoyed the most have been purpose driven, people-centric and exploring adaptation solutions from an engineering perspective. This in part has inspired me to begin a career pivot into working in the international sector of climate resiliency.

Most recently in the Summer 2023, I volunteered in the Dominican Republic working on ecological projects to improve the environmental, economic and health conditions of the island. This was a profound and eye opening experience where I lived and worked with a cross cultural group of Haitians and Dominicans. I am now looking forward to continuing checking off my life goals and travel through Latin America to improve my Spanish and grow out of my comfort zone.

Even though most of my professional career has been spent in the office with occasional field work, I am not averse to physical labor or learning new skills. I have a strong project management background and work very well in teams.

  • What else ...

I love nature and hiking. I hope to make more time for it but this is how I ground myself. I also have a passion for incorporating what I've learned from different cultures into my own life. If I had to choose between cats and dogs, it would be dogs all day but my girlfriend's cat is slowly closing that gap!
