    Description

We live in San Miguel de Allende, an attractive small city in Mexico full of culture, the arts, the great outdoors (hot springs, hikes, botanical gardens, hidden treasures), the best street food and fine dining Mexico has to offer and a vibrant, harmonious community made of Mexican nationals and internationals from around the globe. San Miguel has been rated the friendliest city by Conde Nast for multiple years in a row and we truly feel fortunate to be here and to share the best it has to offer.

Our property is in an ecological zone with a mountainous backdrop. It's quiet most of the time, full of beautiful flora and fauna (we have a well kept garden, a food nursery, 3 dogs, a cat, and a chicken, too), yet we’re still only a 20 minute walk to the center of town with only one neighboring home within a stone's throw. Behind our home is a beautiful little valley with copal trees, wildflowers, old buildings from the revolutionary era, a creek that travels through the red rock mountains and a water dam. Living here and spending time here is a dream for anyone who appreciates the outdoors and sustainable architecture, and for balance, we have Starlink internet!

We're currently working on various projects on the property and host travelers from all over the world on our property, including artists and entrepreneurs from the USA, Canada, Russia, Latin America and beyond.

One of our main goals right now is bringing on the right people to help us prepare for a large festival-like event next year that involves a lot of workshops on sustainable architecture and other on wellness, crafts, cooking and more.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Everything we do, we also teach. The property visionary, Oskar, has worked as a university professor and is a passionate and wonderful teacher to anyone who is open minded and wanting to learn. You will work and learn alongside him for as long as you stay with us and leave with more advanced skills than with which you came.

Ashley has a background in design, yoga, breathwork and events. She currently works as an intimacy and relationship coach holding private and group retreats all over Mexico. She is also the volunteer coordinator on the property and co-manages everything with Oskar. She’s been a Workawayer herself in the past!

In spending time here, you will also learn about traditional, regional cuisine either through cooking or eating it, or both! San Miguel is also a highly desirable place to live with endless opportunities for cultural exchange and exposure to radical communities of artists, activists and free thinkers of all types. This was the home of the Mexican revolution and is centrally located for easy access to Mexico City, Queretaro, Guanajuato and Guadalajara by bus.

There are multiple well known and respected art universities in town along with hundreds of art galleries situated throughout the historical cobblestone streets.

  • Help

    Help

We are currently working on various eco-architecture and construction projects, nurturing our food garden, working on ceramic arts and looking for help with general property maintenance, which is usually light. Some handy work and/or carpentry & metal work may present itself. Knowledge of solar power, ecological water systems and electrical is desirable, but is also part of what we teach.

We have just agreed to hosting a large architectural event next year that we want to enhance by bringing in wellness workshops, live music and more. People who are passionate and experienced in the ins and outs of event production are encouraged to contact us!

Getting things done is part of our daily culture. We’re an upbeat, creative and ambitious team seeking the same. :)

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Accommodation is either in a rustic bunk room or glamping space on the property. We also have space for people who want to camp with their own gear. A Mexican brunch and dinner are provided daily except on weekends and there is always access to a kitchen if you decide you want to cook on your own. Showers and dry toilets are available, laundry service is provided once a week. Please note that accommodation may be shared.

The water feature in the photos is part of a nearby hot springs, which we visit with volunteers.

We need to write these two points to be clear and filter those not interested:

    - We do ask for 5 hours a day or the equivalent in less days if you want to travel the region.
    - We also ask for a minimum month long commitment and that you have completed at least one other Workaway experience before.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

San Miguel never gets boring. From yoga to mezcal to dancing of all types (salsa, ecstatic dance, hip hop clubs) to hot springs to theaters and cinema to architectural touring to pyramids to hiking to art galleries to air balloons and more.... your free time will be used very well. Of course, we also have a couple hammocks on the property if you just want to chill and read a book at home. Everything in town is a walkable distance, but San Miguel also has cheap and reliable public transportation that stops nearby, we have bicycles for free use and we drive into town and markets often, which means there are regular opportunities to catch a ride with us.
