  • Description

We're Karo and Luke, a couple from Poland (Karo) and the United Kindgom (Luke).

We have our New Zealand working visas, a tent, two heavy backpacks filled with camping gear and so much energy to spend doing the activities we love most indoors and outdoors.

We'd love to come and help out and get stuck in to any projects we're involved in.

Luke is from northern England, from a little village of 100 people in the Lake District National Park. He grew up surrounded by hills, lakes and forests. He has a strong interest in the outdoors, and is happiest when making dens and building fires.

Karo is a talkative, friendly girl who can't sit in one place for too long. She comes from a small Polish town, but she believes that her home is everywhere where her friends are. She is happiest when learning something new or simply reading book in a hammock.

We believe we both possess a wide variety of skills!

    Luke -
The son of a Joiner and a Vet Nurse, I grew up surrounded by building projects and animals. I'm also a keen wild camper, and bushcraft enthusiast. I pride myself in my fire-lighting skills! I love cycling, having done several long distance, self-supported cycle tours. This gave me knowledge of bicycle maintenance and general maintenance, as well as bulding on my independence and my ability to be self-sufficient. I've worked in many public-facing roles, from Tourist Information Assistant, to Waiter/Barista, to High Ropes Adventure Course Instructor. Most of all, I just really enjoy learning and applying my own skill set to the projects I'm involved in. I always have a big smile on my face when I'm discovering new interests or taking onboard new ideas and skills from others.

    Karo -
I have two biggest passions. One of them is the outdoors and the second is people.
I am a very open person, and I like to listen to others' stories because I believe that every person can teach me something new. I love to be outside - hiking, camping, kayaking, and practicing yoga, as well as relaxing in a hammock, reading my book. I grew up in a small town in the rural south of Poland close to many farms, so I know a thing or two about dogs, goats, and horses, and I will be happy to learn so much more about animal care!
I am quite a good cook (or at least I've been told that I am!) [She is. - Luke] and I will be happy to cook some meals if you need a hand in the kitchen. I can introduce you to Polish cuisine as well.
Most of my professional work has been customer-related, so I have a great ability to build strong relationships with people. I have been working as an animator, receptionist, office manager, and most recently as a festival and concert coordinator. Due to my work as a manager, I am good with planning and organising - whether it is an outdoor game for friends, or creating a budget for an international event.
I believe that there is always room for improvement in what I do, and I use this mentality every day in my work and my play.

  • What else ...

    Luke -
I enjoy reading (mostly non-fiction), cycling, canoeing, wilderness camping, bushcraft, hiking/tramping, and juggling. I have an interest in mushrooms, and I'm learning woodland foraging skills. I love cooking outdoors over cast-iron. I always carry a sewing kit, priding myself in quick repairs of clothes and kit. I have a decent knowledge of outdoor equipment from all my time playing and working in the outdoors. I play instruments: harmonica, ukulele, some didgeridoo, and most recently I've been learning the tin whistle. One skill I'd love to learn more about is whittling with wood - anything that I can do while relaxing by a campfire in the evening is perfect for me!

    Karo -
I love sunsets, dogs, floating in the lake, watching the flames of a campfire, and laughing with friends. I pretend that I don't like beans on toast, and I really do not like brussels sprouts. I am a huge fan of fantasy books (I think I've read Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings 25 times or more) and my dream is to write one. I love singing, so please don't get scared when I suddenly start to sing something to myself (it might be in Polish!). I finished music school so I can play piano and violin, although I have to admit that I haven't practiced for a while. If you want to learn music notes I will be more than happy to help!
