Hi!

My name is Metti and I live in Helsinki, Finland. I graduated from high school last spring and since then I’ve been enjoying my life doing things I like. During my gap year I’ve been trying to live a very spontaneous life, however, I have one goal for this year and it’s to experience new cultures, places and meet as many people from all over the world as I possibly can. That’s also the reason I would really love to have an experience with Workaway!

Traveling has been a big part of my life ever since I was a small kid. My family used to do trips around Europe during school’s summer vacations and I think that ever since then I’ve been very interested in learning and experiencing the world. In my second year of high school in 2020 I had an exchange year in Italy. The year taught me a lot and that's why starting a life from scratch in a different country or family is already familiar to me. For me it’s easy to adapt to different ways of living. After my amazing time in Italy I knew that I wanted to take a gap year and see the world as much as I can.

Last spring I wanted to test myself a little so I went interrailing by myself around Europe for a few weeks. I met some amazing people and got to see the European cities together with them. I came back to Helsinki to work in the summer but as soon as the first autumn leaves fell from the trees, my friend and I decided to take our first trip to Asia, so we traveled to Bali! I really had a time of my life there meeting new people and learning about the beautiful culture of Indonesia and Bali. I also learnt to surf a little which in my opinion was the best part of the whole trip! After Bali I have done a couple of shorter trips but in January I’m planning to travel again before I have to come back and start studying for my university entrance exams.

Even though I really love seeing the world, I also enjoy my time at home in Finland. I like spending time with my parents, my little brother and friends. I love trying out new cafes or just chilling at home.

I’m a very outgoing person but I also enjoy spending some time alone sometimes. I would call myself an animal lover, especially cats are the best! I would say that I’m also a sporty person. At the moment I’m super into fitness boxing and it has actually been my hobby for 2 years now.

I haven’t done any jobs from Workaway before but I’m really looking forward to have my first experience! I’m open to all kinds of jobs from any part of the world! I would describe myself as a very social, independent and kind person. So, if you are a host looking for an eager and reliable person to help you I think we might be a perfect match!

More details about my language interests
I would be super interested in learning some new languages and also improve the language skills that I already have. I understand and speak English very well but especially my Italian would need a little practice again. :D Also, I would love to teach you some Finnish!

I’ve been working for many years now so I already have a lot of experience from different kinds of jobs. If I start at the very beginning, for ten years I did horseback riding and I spent most of my freetime at the horse stables. There I teached and shared my skills with younger kids. My very first job was also at the horse stables.

Since then I have had a lot of different jobs. I have done a lot of work as a customer servant for example at a grocery store and in a smoothie bar. There I learned to work very independently and manage to do many tasks at the same time. Also, I have worked two summers at the beach where we rent sup boards, kayaks and other watercrafts. There I also was in charge of teaching younger trainees some customer service skills.

I have also been a substitute teacher at an elementary school so working with small children and figuring out fun things to do together is not a problem for me!

However, at the side of all these jobs (and right now) I have been working as a promoter and a host in an event industry. I really enjoy my current job since almost every day is different and I get to know so many cool people and work in a team with them!

Because my jobs have been very varied, I’m good at adapting new rules and tasks fast. So I’m a fast learner and ready to go out of my comfort zone!

Here are some more facts about me! I really like thrift shopping and I’m interested in fashion overall. I’m a very big fan of live music. Concerts just make me feel alive! At home I like to listen to not only music but also podcasts. However, when I’m traveling I always try to live at the moment as well as I can and not to disturb myself by listening to something. I want to be able to observe and notice all the small details of the new place I’m in.

I don't want to take life (or myself) too seriously and I think, it's important to be able to laugh to my own mistakes (also be able to learn from them)! For me having millions in my bank account is not the ultimate goal for life but making amazing memories from all over the world is!
