Description
*Unique Winter Opportunity * I have a small cabin ( with good WIFI) on my property and would like someone to stay there for free in exchange for a bit of help during the week ( 3 days consistently and possibly a bit more if I have the odd business trip) ....you would supply your own food and cook your own meals. I wouldnt mind having a hiking buddy as well. My mom definitely likes having people over to watch the hockey games so there is definitely an opportunity for evening social time and of course the holidays will be busy..... Its a great opportunity for a remote worker or someone that wants a quiet getaway....anyway if you think this is something you might be interested in let me know. Preference given to somebody with horse experience but is not absolutely necessary. It could start as early as October 1st or as late as December 1st. Cheers!
Do you want to be right in the middle of Vancouver Island so you can explore on your days off by bus or a car if you have one? I live on a small country estate in Coombs BC. My mom lives on my property as well my niece. I own a boutique in Qualicum Beach and Courtenay I spend the rest of my time caring for my horses, two goats and dogs as well maintaining the property. The tasks for helpers is to help with the animals, walk dogs, help my mom who is elderly, garden, housecleaning, maintain trails, fence staining, lawn mowing ( lots of lawn mowing), weeding ( lots of weeding) and general outdoor help. I cook 100% organic, delicious vegan meals and hope you do to. We do have a giant swim pond for hot summer days or early morning dips. Something to note is all my animals are pets and not for food consumption. We are a Vegan Friendly property and appreciate like minded people :)
This is a very physical workaway and requires good health and strength but the work days are fair and your time off is honoured. We are positive and friendly here and I do my best to maintain that atmosphere. With that said if someone is very negative with other helpers and complains constantly , drinks or does drugs you will be asked to leave.
*A typical work day starts at 8:30 and ends at 1:30/ weekends off.
* Minimum Stay is 1 month but negotiable to 2 weeks if your english is fluent and you are experienced with horses.
* Side Note* my horses are seniors and should not carry a weight over 65Kg /145lb. So if you have hopes of riding please keep this in mind.
And lastly I would prefer to host experienced travelers who are mature, independent, non-smokers, comfortable eating vegan food and love a good laugh!Types of help and learning opportunities

You can learn to relax and enjoy nature, having time for your self and enjoy local, fresh food of the seasons. I enjoy having family style meals and sharing stories. Lots of different flora and fauna on the property to learn about.

Help
Small country estate with many different tasks to keep things interesting... cleaning the stable, caring for horses, walking dogs, gardening, weeding, watering, fence staining, some carpentry work if you are skilled, lawn mowing, trail building/maintenance, housework, house cleaning and if grandkids are visiting some child care (if you enjoy small children) This is a physical workaway so good health and reasonable strength is required. Positive, happy energy is what we are used to on the property and strive to maintain.

Im happy to help people improve their english as time permits Buuuut you do need to be fairly proficient in English as there is alot to learn in a short amount of time and it can be very difficult with a language barrier.Accommodation
Accommodation depends on who is staying on the property and time of year , there is a small, nicely decorated cabin, a bedroom in the stable or a loft bedroom in house.
What else ...
To get here you must take a bus to Qualicum Beach (Ravensong Centre) from BC Ferries and I can pick you up from there. We do have bikes for you to use so you can explore the area .... In parksville there are great beaches and warm ocean swimming , Rathtrevor Provincial Park is fun to explore. The rail trail takes you right into Parksville from Coombs. World famous Goats On The Roof Market is a 5 minute bike ride or 20 minute walk from us.... there you can enjoy homemade ice cream, a taco stand, lots of unique shops to browse and a donut shop. Englishman river Provincial park is also within riding distance... beautiful waterfalls and river swimming...
