    Description

Hey curty and kayleigh here with our two young stars living in the mountains off grid in Catalonia. We moved here as a small community nearly 10 years ago but things change and now it is us pursuing our dream of trying to become self sufficient or as close as we can be. Slowly we are wanting to regenerate our land to cultivate olives, nuts and fruits as well as have our own animals for resources. The last few years we have been building a dwelling for our family, (as well as making it ) so other than general maintenance we get to move onto more exciting projects. We have our own solar power, and water by rain catchment. We do have mains water but this is very limited and only during certain months. Our projects are close related in working with nature but also some construction work.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are here to try and build and experience where travellers can see how we are trying to become self contained and learned about developing ones own home environment to be sustainable and eco friendly. To learning how to grow and cultivate fruit, vegetables, and keep animals. None of which we are professional at but we are very willing to share what we have learned.

    Accommodation

We have two large beautiful yurts available for staying in, both have double beds and additional sleeping places so even possible for a small close family. They are situated on different levels of our mountain that equally have amazing views. Both have small kitchen appliances, solar power so ok for charging appliances and laptops. There is also a small camping toilet in each, please note there is NO running water in the yurts, water is collected by container. One has a warm glowing log burner in and the other has a veranda off the front. As I have mentioned above we are in the mountains 5km from the nearest village so ideally your own transport would be best. We are willing to provide an evening meal.

It would be best for us if people could provide their own food, as for us as a small family it can be too much to cater for others as well. There is a shop in the local village as well as a large supermarket 30 minute drive away.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Living in the forest it is the most important to us that people respect that smoking is kept to designated areas, after being evacuated 5 years ago because of a fire that burnt 6000hectres it's the last thing everyone would want to go through again.
In spare time you can take a ride to the local village and enjoy one of the best coffees, tomate de pan and even buy the local olive oil. They hold a weekly market on Wednesday where you can buy the local fruit and vegetable produce, as well as having a little shop for small items. There are many beautiful angles to see of the terrain around here so many walks along different tracks can take you places like the nearby war hospital memorial which is set in a cool cave. Just down the road in a nearby village Margalef you have one of the most visited places for mountain climbers and also hikers. A little further out you have the siruina natural park and water reservoir which has incredible views as you climb the mountains higher. For food drinks, restaurants, tobacs, and other necessities you can find in our local village Flix about a 30 min drive from us.
