    Description

I am Peter a medical Clinician and director of a clinic, that has a team of Laboratory technicians, Nurses, doctors and social workers. The health charity Clinic is under a grass root organization. , I am very passionate to help the local mountain community, where it is often difficult for the people to access basic health care and education.

This a charity organisation, working in the Bududa and Manafwa districts of Eastern Uganda. We offer clinical services, mental health care, nutritional support and preventive health services in . We also run a primary school and social development programmes for marginalised local groups, including women, children, youths, children with albinism, elderly and we have an affiliated Christian church that seeks volunteers interested in working with church activities.
In Bududa, we are building a children's hospital and volunteers with building and fundraising skills are welcome to support the construction work.
In Manafwa we have already a running charity Clinic that seeks passionate volunteers with a medical background.
Due to heavy influx of patients daily, we need passionate health workers dedicated to save lives. We also need determined teachers for our kindergarten and primary school, with skills to train others due to insufficient local teachers.

We welcome you to enjoy the cool weather, greenery, mountainous terrain and hospitable community!

    Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre

Volunteers have the opportunity to learn new languages, since our region contains people from different places. They can tour places like Mt Elgon National Park with plenty of beautiful landscapes, flora and fauna. Also the nearby Namisindwa caves and Sipi falls that look so attractive.

It's interesting for volunteers to watch our cultural dances - sonja dance, inemba - its all fun.
Volunteers can enjoy and learn from our cooking classes, our farming styles and experience different kinds of foods.

  • Aide

    Aide

We believe that integration of our ideas with local and international partners can lead to a transformed community. Volunteers will be expected to share with us their skills and offer a helping hand to our community members in their respective fields. Volunteers will be attached to our health facility, families, primary school, or kindergarten all within the organisation.

    Help needed:

    1) Curative Healthcare:
The clinic works hard to tackle local diseases such as malaria, TB, malnutrition and various water-borne issues. We also work with local laboratories to diagnose and prescribe treatments accordingly.
Volunteers can participate in the services above under supervision by a local health worker.

    2) Guidance and Counselling:
We deal with mental health issues that stem from poor families, single parents, abandoned children and many others affected by hardship in this area. The children with albinism usually suffer from rejection and they need to be supported with basic needs like soap, sun screen, eye glasses and protective clothing - If you are thinking of donating, these things would be very helpful!
Volunteers with counselling skills will help us so much in this field. This entails home visits and meeting affected children at schools with their teachers.

    3) Community Health Outreach:
We conduct routine outreaches every Thursday and Friday to sensitise children in schools, home and community gatherings on health issues, carry out basic examinations like nutrition assessments, blood pressure, dental hygiene, skin diseases, HIV testing.
Volunteers are very much needed to team up with us in these out reaches.

    4) Special clinics:
We organise specialised camps like eye camps, dental camps and minor surgeries.
Volunteers with these specialities are welcome in planning, organising and implementing these clinics.
    5) Kids Club:
We plan for new creative activities like drama, music and dance. Inspire and activate children's' inner potential. Identify ways to make the Kids Club financially sustainable and expand.
Volunteers can act as a co-facilitator and help to lead these activities, as well as bringing in new ideas and fundraise for additional resources.
    6) Fundraising Activities:
A volunteer with experience and connections in fundraising is very welcome. We have over 50 orphans attending kindergarten whose parents were lost due to landslides and other unfortunate circumstances. These children need scholastic materials and other basic necessities which they cannot afford. They need to be supported to realise their full potential.
    8) WEBSITE:
We currently have a website to show the world who we are and what we do. A critical role in the present day. We need a volunteer with the expertise to update our website that will convey all our programs and activities.
    9) Toursim:
We are also trying to open our place up for toursim. Volunteers can help in organizing our website and social media accounts, managing incoming tourism requests, guiding tourists and helping in making this place a comfortable place for tourists
    10) Donations;
We are also open for donations if you are thinking about bringing something to the clinic. Here are some suggestions: sunscreen, sunglasses for the children with albinism // gloves, weighing scale, thermometers, liquid soap, centrifuge, antibiotic creams, antifungai creams, steroid creams and different drugs and medications for the clinic // books, pens, chalk, markers and white boards for the school // reading glasses, shoes, slippers, clothes, rubbish bins, power banks, used laptops or phones for the surrounding community

    Accommodation:

We currently have modest accommodation with five medium size bedrooms. They all include a bed with bedding and a treated mosquito net. There is now solar power throughout the centre.

We have recently installed a new modern toilet and shower room. We don't have any running water, but clean and safe water is collected and stored in containers on site. Boiled water for drinking (and a hot shower) is always prepared daily.

Internet: you can access internet services by using mobile data on your simcard that we provide you with. You buy airtime on your simcard and convert it into internet bundles and tether to your computer for internet services. If you want to buy a simcard yourself then we recommend in getting an Airtel simcard instead of MTN, because up here in the mountains the Airtel provides more stable internet

    Food:
Most of our meals are local foods like Matooke (Bananas), Posho (Maize corn), Rice, Potatoes, cassava, Avocadoes. We are largely vegetarians, but we sometimes have beef. Our food is not always spiced, so be prepared for a basic lifestyle.

    Payment:
Our accommodation is free of charge in exchange of the services you render to the project. Feeding you contribute 5 per day.
This includes 3 meals a day.
This covers all covers all basic meals and ingredients that we obtain from the local market including posho, matooke, rice, potatoes, cooking oil, onions, sugar and green vegetables.

There are plenty of local fruits that you can buy from the markets, including avocados, bananas, mangoes, pineapples, pawpaws, guavas, all from purely organic gardens. For milk lovers, it is readily available.

Volunteers who need spiced foods that are expensive will need to make an extra contribution to purchase from supermarket in mbale. For example; animal proteins, processed foods like bread, pasta, spices and others.

    Transportation:
We offer transportation from the Entebbe Airport to the clinic for 171 USD. From Mbale city to the clinic we offer transportation for 25 USD.
In case you want to come with public transport you can take a bus from the Airport to Kampala for approx. 32 USD. Then a bus from Kampala to Mbale for 10 USD. After from Mbale to Bududa by public transport for 2 USD and then a Boda from Bududa bridge to the clinic for 3 USD. That means public transport would cost you in total approx. 45 USD.

Our group creates ample leisure time to learn language/cultures, indoor & outdoor games. Our volunteers shall have opportunity to tour the beautiful sceneries that make Uganda truly the pearl of Africa, like the source of the Nile, Mt Elgon, Sipi fall, Busitema forest reserve to see Baboons, Itanda falls in Jinja. These outings will cost some charge in form of entry fee, transport and of course lunch/dinner may be relatively more expensive prompting us to request our volunteers to meet these individual expenses.
