I am chairman of an organization which administers a homeless shelter and rehabilitative day program in Port Antonio, Jamaica. The shelter, Portland Rehabilitation Management (PRM), is an NGO providing shelter, food, medicine, and other rehabilitative services to the homeless. We currently serve 15-20 clients, (roughly one third of the marginalized homeless population of Port Antonio), who have been socially displaced often due to many of the following factors: • Mental Health Issues (mostly schizophrenia and bipolar disorder) • Physically Debilitating Condition • HIV/AIDS • Drug Use Disorder • Displacement resulting from ex-offender or deportee status or circumstance. • Abuse or Exploitation We are an NGO charged by the Portland Parish Council, to develop, fund and administer a rehabilitation program for the homeless persons of the parish of Portland. Our aims are: 1. To meet the basic needs of the homeless persons in Portland; for shelter, food, clothing and medical care. 2. To deliver a Day Time Rehabilitation Program to empower our clients with social and independent living skills and opportunities. 3. Reduce the number of homeless and socially displaced persons in Portland. Current projects: building a female dormitory, expanding the garden, building a chicken coop We would welcome any volunteers with experience in the health field, especially in medical and psychiatric care. In particular we could use volunteers with experience in substance abuse counselling, motivational interviewing and recreational therapy. Other helpful experiences include but are not limited to marketing, NGO development, fundraising, and farming. If you feel that you have certain skills (personal or professional) that could benefit the shelter, you are more than welcome as long as you are compassionate, willing to work with marginalized populations, and have good interpersonal skills.Area: Washington State, Western Washington
We are an organic / permaculture / biodynamic farm with a huge diversity of fruit and vegetables for market and a nuptial CSA. We are growing and testing hundreds of varieties of apples, blueberries, grapes and mixed berries on 8 acres, with interplanings of vegetables and strawberries. After 40 years of personal gardening, edible landscaping and creating public paradises the farm is building for a future where we can offer regular classes on farming techniques and offer a place of shelter for the community to experience a model for the residential walk-to farm. We are located near one of the oldest villages in the state and surrounded by 7 homes-and 150 homes within 1 mile. It is our mission to recreate the suburban family farm and promote a regenerative model for local food. We are building a nursery of edibles: grafting and propagating hundreds of low-cost food plants for farms, individuals and institutions in need, supplemental as a sharecropping model within collaborative community building. This year we believe we can feed 200 families if we have the help. We have work to do. We are opening doors to becoming non-profit, co-operative, worker-owned and/or a trust. We always welcome with enthusiasm the explorer and active earth advocate in our mission to create the paradise we share.Area: Pays de la Loire
Hi We use to travel as often as we can (Morroco, india, Israel, Australia, eastern Europe, New-Zealand…) and we found a great way to go on travelling while we’re at home : hosting workawayers ! We are a friendly french family : Christophe : healer (osteopath) likes to practise Tai-chi-chuan and very good cook (healty food), Maud : writter and actor's director, with 2 easy going children Lin 9 years old and Enki-Aimé nearly 1 year. Lin is a great French teacher, he is very talkative! And you could teach him some English too. Right now, we live in a tiny straw balls house, where you will have your little own bedroom. We are also restoring a goat’s barn that Maud’s father built in the eighties... The place is situated in a beautiful area with fields and forests, close to a small typical village, not very far from Paris (1H30 by train and bus). If you feel like being in the nature, living simply, sharing lifetime, come to join us. We need a hand for different kind of things : to look after our children, for cooking (we love discovering new meals from all over the world) and in the outdoors like planting fruit trees, cleaning or gardening. Also, artists and creative people who like all kind of manual activities are much welcome. Sometimes our plans change at the last minut, we are not very organized people, so you need to be flexible... Very close to home, you will find nice walking and biking tracks, artisanal markets, festivals, brocantes, lacs, horse riding farm. you can be any age, alone, with friends, couple or family.Couples are really welcome, they can be quiet independent when they feel like. Welcome home!Area: Nebraska
We are a family that lives and works in the Great Plains region of the United States. The community in which we live is small a with around 24,000 people. Industry here is cattle ranching and railroad. This community was also the home of Buffalo Bill and much history related to the settling of the Wild West. Our family consists of 4 kids, a small flock of chickens, a greyhound and some yellow perch in our aquaponics system. The two youngest children still live at home. We have a large intensive garden, an indoor three bed aquaponics system and a variety of fruiting trees and shrubs. Allison, the lady of the house is a teacher, my name is Tim and I am an artist, author and teacher. We look forward to meeting many people.
