Area: LeinsterRobert and I live in a beautiful Georgian House above a river and near to a old Quaker village. We are about an hour out of Dublin (close to bus route). We take Bed and Breakfast guests, sometimes giving them supper too. Our garden is quite big with lots of trees and big lawns and we have lots of old stone walls, some in need of tender loving care. We try to have a veggie garden as that's very satisfying but often run out of time to do it properly with other things that need attention. We have two black labradors (mother and daughter) and an elderly Jack Russell called Mini who is the boss.
Area: MendozaWe're an Italian/US couple who have traveled much and now enjoy having a well established hostel. During the winter season there is space for people who would like to help out with the olive and fruit trees and with the other many farm and hostel jobs. We're situated on a main highway road within a good sized town that has everything right nearby - food, and transport to the main town of San Rafael, the beautiful Valle Grande, Bodegas and everything that's of interest in this area. From April till November there are less people in the hostel so we have room to invite volunteers. We usually work in the mornings so the rest of the day and weekends are free for you to go around. 4 hours a day - 5 days a week is the norm. You can have your own private room and food is included. Of course we have WiFi internet, TV, DVDs and books, bicycles, laundry and all the things that a big hostel has. Dinners together are great times to share all of life's experiences, different recipes and chat in many languages. We also like to learn other languages. On the weekends we host family fiestas, birthdays, quinceaneras, weddings, anniversaries, etc because we also have a Salon de Fiesta which is a very interesting experience to see how Argentinians do their fiestas, music, dance and food. PS. (as of April 7th 2014)...We also want to make it known that in the winter from April through November we have a lot of Christian activities here as we ourselves are Christians and have been active for many years. That has been a surprise to some of the volunteers coming here and so we feel we should let that be known ahead of time. But if that's something you're especially interested in then please let us know. We get literally hundreds of requests from volunteers wanting to come here and unfortunately we can't take them all even though we would like to. We believe it when Jesus said: "to go into all the world and preach the Gospel of His Love to every person and train disciples in the way of his love and service". So that's something we do as well during the winter besides all the work.
Area: Amazonas, PeruOur association is a grass roots non-profit organization orginally founded in order to save the waterfalls, ecology and endagered species located in the Northern Andes right in the heart of the Amazon. We have expanded to encompass not just ecological tourism projects, but also agricultural and cultural tourism. We are in truth just a few people working for free to try to bring an alternative to resource exploitation and put control of resources in the hands of local people. For this reason we are not always on site and have built relationships of trust with local people over many years that largely run our projects. This is what also makes our projects unpredictable, different than most other non-profits, and truly 100% non exploitative and locally controlled. The association wants no profit for the project and all the income will go directly to the villages. This gives those people living within this amazing ecological zone the chance to share the treasures of the nature that surrounds them while still remaining in firm control of the tourism that develops in their region.
Area: CanilloWe are a single parental family, me (a man) in my early forties and my daughters (Lassa is 9 and 1/2 years, Nayele is 8 years). I work, I study no more, but researching. My daughters usually do some activities after school: ice skating, English, theater, to learn portuguese, singing, judo, ... Their school is in French as main language with Catalan as second language. The girls can speak Spanish, Catalan and French, somewhat in Portuguese. It would be interesting to teach them some English. I also can speak English, French and Portuguese.
