Area: BavariaTwo years ago, we moved with our two children (5 and 7) from England to a small town in hilly Northern Bavaria to get away from the city. We are a bilingual family - our work and life are strongly connected, as we have been partners together in a multi-media company for 17 years, first in England, now here in Germany. Shortly after arrival, we also started a creative charity, which is a lively network for artists and musicians for the rural areas and surrounding towns. This has been so successful that we haven't had time to finish the renovations of our house, and we also need help with the daily running of our family home, because we run so many arts events and creative projects.
Area:The cafe and gardens are owned and run by the Guerrero Family, Lopinot, Trinidad. Our Cafe started in 2001, as a place for simple tea or light meals. The genesis of this began in 1984 after the seven Guerrero sisters won the Family Class of the local Music Festival. Following on this many people made their way to our little village nestled at the foothills of the Northern Range to ask our dad for us to sing to them. After many years of serving the accidental guest whatever home made treats we had crafted for ourselves, our sister Bianca, and only brother, Arthur, decided that this was a business opportunity. Thirteen years later we now have a host home, an area where we may host meetings for up to 40 persons, dining for up to 60, opportunity to view at least 12 species of hummingbirds and several other varieties of birds. We are also a site for weddings of up to 100 and in the near future will be an open air venue for lectures and concerts. Our enterprise is growing, three of us are certified chocolate makers so we have now added chocolate making to our list of delicacies crafted here. Some of us are cuisine innovators and in March 2014, we hosted our first annual Cocoa Innovation - A Tasting Event, which gave patrons an opportunity to taste several of our cuisine innovations made directly from the cocoa pulp or bean. Creating from savory to dessert. We are now 210 days from our second cocoa tasting event taking place on February 21, 2015. There will be a lot of interesting, good tasting food available and if you are musical, the family loves to sing together for long hours when we get the chance. We have a Spanish ancestral history and our village is known for the paranda a type of serenading done particularly during the Christmas season. Our village is approximately 30 minutes from the airport and about 1:30 minutes from Port of Spain, the main city. We invite you to visit us for an initial week or two, with an open mind and a warm heart and we will welcome you into ours.
Area: Midi PyreneesOur little farm with 3 persons (1 child) and many animals (donkeys, goats, ewes, dog, cats, geeses, ducks and chickens) welcomes helpers from all over the world. We are in the middle french pyrenees in the south of France. This is a peaceful greeny place far away from urban life. It is a beginning of an herbal tea (and others products with dry plants) story, sold on markets and associatives shops; we try to be as much as possible self sufficient so we grow fruits and vegetables, chickens, eggs... the old farm is getting a new life (low impact home rebuilt with maximum regard for the environment).
Area: Graaff-ReinetOur farm is part of the Compassberg Protected Environment near the top of the catchment of the Sneeuberg Mountains of the Great Karoo. We farm cattle and in the future will be running dramatherapy workshops and retreats. For the next few months we will be busy with a building project using natural materials and will need lots of hands to help. This remote farm is far away from the air/sound/light/noise pollution of the city. It is the ideal place to connect with yourself and with nature. We are an hour drive from the nearest ATM machine/petrol station and 20 minutes on a bumpy road to the nearest small shop. Sometimes we are cut off from civilisation for a few days when the rains turn the roads into mud soup. We do weather in a big way: In winter we have can have snow and freezing temperatures, in summer we have flash floods, electric storms and occasionally intense heat (though being up in the mountains our temperatures are never get too unbearable high for too long). But if you love mountains and fresh air and you don't need cell phone reception then you will love this farm.
