Area: Northern IrelandI AM FULLY BOOKED UNTIL XMAS. "This is the type of place where no one knows the time of the month, or what the gold standard is. The type of place where pedlars still come to...." My famous great great aunt once wrote. My name is Louise and I live in a unique location - a farm which many visitors tell me is always an amazing and sometimes life changing place to visit. It could be the peaceful and tranquil setting in a rural valley in County Down, or it could be the special atmosphere created by my wonderful ancestors who lived in the house before I inherited it from my great aunt. Whatever the reason, I am asking you to be a part of my world. The house I have been restoring for 5 years and the 5 acre garden is always in need of some TLC. The work is varied and satisfying. I am a furniture maker/teacher but spend most of my time on the farm, in the garden or restoring the house and outbuildings. The closest town, Banbridge is 4 miles away and very easy to get to by bus from Belfast or Dublin.
Area:I'm an easygoing American granny teaching English at a Korean middle school in Seosan, a small city in a rural province about halfway down the western coast of South Korea. A volunteer could get a chance to immerse in two parallel cultures: small city South Korea, and English-speaking expats in Korea, who are really a culture of their own. Since my needs are few, the volunteer would have plenty of time to explore the city and the surrounding areas. You needn't worry if you can't speak Korean. My Korean is rudimentary at best and I get on just fine. You just need to be willing to ask for help. You can enjoy noribang (private karaoke rooms), jimjilbang (Korean style bathhouses), the market area, and so on. An inexpensive look at modern Korean culture can be found all over town: just spend a little time in one of the famous Korean PC-bangs, where Koreans immerse themselves in computer games and cigarette smoke for hours upon hours. Seosan has a small but beautiful lake park not far from downtown, perfect for relaxing, bike rides, roller blading, etc. A short bus ride south of the city takes you to Heimi, which features a beautiful restored fortress with a dark claim to fame: persecution and torture of the local Catholics. Since we'll share cooking, meals will be pretty flexible. There's a little grocery store within very easy walking distance and I tend to buy fresh meat, vegetables, and fruits there every couple of days. You could enjoy experimenting with the plentiful mushrooms, tofu, and unique Korean vegetables whose names I don't even know.
Area: CataloniaWe are a middle aged couple with a large house and garden situated within walking distance of the village of St.Pere de Ribes, 4 kms. from the sea-side resort of Sitges and 35 kms. south of Barcelona. Located on the edge of the Garraf National Park surrounded by mountains and vineyards. Not isolated but with few neighbours and a small multi-language community who get together at a nearby bar/restaurant. We are English, are great animal lovers and have dogs and cats . We are smokers and non-vegetarians but respect those who are not. Our family consists of two working sons - one and home and one not but need extra hands with the garden, painting, repairs and some light housework. There is a self contained apartment and we supply all meals and refreshments in exchange for a 4 hour mornings work with 1 day off. Experienced hosts with a preference for a boy and girl couple finding this a good combination for light/heavier work.
Area:COMMUNITY RESERVE: In 1994, a Conservation International expedition discovered that this place was potentially the most bio-diverse hotspot in the world. Thanks to that expedition, a few years later, Madidi National Park was created. Nonetheless, the area where the study was done was left out of the park’s boundaries. Consequently, the Candelaria Madidi buffer zone and community reserve was created to preserve this most important part of the Madidi area. The diversity of vascular plants, vines and birds, in this specific place, is twice as much as the other more visited regions inside Madidi. In addition, this place is the last undisturbed biomass corridor between the flood plain savannahs to the north and the Andes Mountains to the south. For this reason, there is an above average transit of large mammals, especially tapirs and jaguars. If this wasn’t enough, it was here where the most recently discovered monkey was found, the “callicebus aureipalatii”; and it is here, where Bolivia’s last isolated tribe remains, the Toromonas. The Alto Madidi is an invaluable treasure that remains hidden to most people. This is an opportunity to get to know it and help with its conservation.
