Area: sea slope of Etna volcano, SicilyMy husband and I (both N. Italians, from Modena, the city of Ferrari) bought this house on the slopes of Etna, with a view on the the Ionian Sea. The small house of dawns, we could call it - sunbreakings are usually awesome. The house is surrounded by 2,5 acres of own terrain in part dedicated to vineyard and orchard, with a shadowed caravan in the middle of the garden. The location is surrounded by green (we are fond of Botany and there are more than 2000 types of different plants) and has a great tranquility . In the past - in pre-Workaway times, we mean - we have hosted here people from all corners of the world - being always being pleased with our hospitality. We do NOT AT ALL host singles. This because this place is our holidays house, where frequently there's only one of us. And we don't like the idea to be a senior female/male in company of a junior female/male - situations that can be leading to ambiguities - certainly not in our minds - but e.g. in neighbours' ones. We're sorry to have been obliged to furtherly stress this concept, after having received so many (already discouraged) requests from singles. We prefer relatively long stays - not less than 15 days. As well, we prefer people having no special diets. As said before, often you could meet only one of us, let alone to follow the 10000 things to do here. A further complication - as cooking different meals for guests - it's simply too much to bear - we really just have not the time, sorry. We're both good cooks (so people say), and prepare tasty Italian food, but what we eat in person is just what we can share. Last but not least, we don't commit at all our guests. You'll be free on your own to decide your working hours, and your working days, on a gentlemen's agreement basis. We'll explain you what there's to do, but will never oblige you to do it from 8 to 12... free, if you wish, to do from 15 to 19 - or in the night, if being a vampire. Or not to do at all, and working longer next day. This is a private house, we absolutely do not sell what we produce, so we ourselves are not committed to reach a "result" whatever. We love to see coming here couples, staying, working and eating with us, with the hope to let them go away as new good friends, and just good memories of us, ok ? :) ================================================================= BECAUSE OF AN UNFORESEEN LAST MINUTE RENOUNCE, WE'RE AGAIN OPEN FOR HOSTING ON WHOLE OF OCTOBER, 2014. IF YOU WISH, HELP US IN COLLECTING GRAPES AND OLIVES. ================================================================= (Possible but not certain hosting again since Jan/Feb 2015, or later. :) )

Area: Lower Normandy**Update** Yay, we're back! After a long delay due to unforeseen circumstances we are recommencing work-away projects! For those keen to join the Chez-Kiwi team we have stone work, paving, and decking projects (exterior) and spiral staircase, balustrading, and flooring woodwork projects and painting and decorating projects (interior). There are also various ancillary projects for those who are particularly skilled/keen - we are looking to extend our son's tree-hut with a second higher platform and with netting, and we have a interesting textile project of reupholstering our lounge suit in an eclectic contemporary style.. And of course there should be the usual fun, sun and chaos! **Description** We are a Kiwi family living in historic Normandy, renovating our amazing 470+ year old farmhouse whilst perfecting our French and generally immersing ourselves in French life. We are returning the house to it's traditional majestic beauty by reinstating the thatched roof and exposing it's stone and oak features, whilst at the same time adding modern twists of glass, metal and bold colour, and the occasional 'kiwi twist'. We are a couple who have travelled and worked in many different countries and enjoy learning about different cultures. Here in France, we have a simple but good life enjoying the outdoors in our pool, jacuzzi, trampoline, kids play area, brazier and bonfire pit, etc. We are in the countryside just outside an active village, our 8 year old son goes to the local school (~2km/10min cycle to town), and workawayers are welcome to use our bikes to explore the local towns and cafes, scenic and historical sights, local markets etc. We're in the midst of an extensive ecological project to re-thatch and insulate our chaumiere. This involves many ancillary projects such as paving and decking, terrassing and drainage, exterior insulation, lime repointing and double glazing. Additionally we are in the midst of many interior projects such as the construction of oak spiral stairs, installation of wooden kitchen worktops, and repair of 300 yr old oak flooring. We use natural/traditional products where ever possible and have a simple organic vegetable garden. We are looking for enthusiastic generally capable people who would enjoy helping us in exchange for access to this fantastic part of France. We are of course happy to assist those wishing to improve their French and/or cultural understanding of France and assist you with access to tourist sights where we can. We're close to all the historic D-day sites (actually on the D-day 'route-de-libertie'), the evocative Abbaye d'Hambye is 5 mins away, the local beach (a fantastic never-ending stretch of golden sand) is 30 mins by car, there are wonderful local produce tours (cheese, cider, calvados etc) and it's only 40 mins to the famous Le Mont St Michel.
