The farm is comprised of 20 acres with a large organic vegetable garden. About 10 acres are reserved for hay making to feed the dairy goats, llamas, horses and rabbits. The farms has ducks and chickens also. The farm is involved with agritourism and offer classes on the farm. One house on the farm is used as a Bed & Breakfast and for classes. Ongoing work to save the endangered Butternut tree from extinction is a major project. The farm has about 50 butternut trees on it. The farm setting is a rural location, about 15 miles from the nearest town. There is no mass transit system. Cell Phone access can be limited during a storm but most do not have any problems.

*** We are presently looking for someone having some knowledge of a martial art (aikido, kung fu, jujutsu or Muay Thai, etc...) or any self-defense technique (krav maga or other) who could teach us some and practice with us. As it is still winter, there is no garden jobs at the moment*** We would also need some help to improve our website if you have any knowledge in that. Thank you for contacting us! _____ We are a small buddhist community of 4 people living in the forest of Lanaudiere, Quebec, on a land of 20 acres in the way to self-sufficiancy. Approximately 5 acres are cultivated with heritage and hardy fruit trees (Apple (over 200 varieties), pear, plum, cherries, apricot, strawberry, raspberry, haskap, blueberry, kiwis, etc)and with vegetables. The other 15 acres is forest. We live a log house, the other buildings are made of recuperated materials. The traveler has his own apartment with a bathroom and a small kitchen for his breakfast and dinner. We have hundreds of projects, but only we are 4 to make them become reality! So we need help to make all those, and we would like to teach some of our knowledge to the volunteer coming here. Happy to meet new people from all over the world! :) We provide lunch.

We usually have several projects, some very interesting, some mundane to make this a better place for ourselves and travelers. Area: Belize Jungle

We are a remote site located in the Belizean jungle in the foothills of the Mountain Pine Ridge. Our primary mission here is catering to our campers who are mostly backpackers traveling around Central and South America . Additionally, we operate a tropical plant and palm nursery as well as a seasonal citrus grove. Our volunteers assist in those endeavors. Volunteers work in a beautiful environment and enjoy discounted pricing on trips to amazing waterfalls, swimming holes, caves and canoeing. We only host longer term volunteers and ask for a minimum commitment of 45 days. Your time with us usually consists of 5- 6 hour workdays and then helping with evening meal preparations/cleanup in the course of a 6 day workweek. We also help our exceptional volunteers with lodging discounts in nearby San Ignacio when they need some time "in town". Additionally, we can assist with other discounted lodging around the country. Depending on the time of year the work here includes landscaping, nursery work with our tropical flowers and palms. Our primary focus, however, is assisting visiting campers in various capacities, lots of general cleaning, building & equipment maintenance and plenty of kitchen work. If a meal is cooked, volunteers help. Capable volunteers also frequently run the Outpost while we go to town, often overnight. We sometimes have special projects like trail building, construction and selling at the local market as well. Our volunteers work hard and we appreciate an ongoing positive attitude. This is a remote location and working with us is not for everyone. Some people fit here better than others and there are times when this is obvious in the first few days or so. In those cases we release volunteers from their commitment and they move along. In these cases the issue is nearly always work ethic. While we try to put our volunteers in situations that make the best use of their skills our primary goal is to accomplish our daily mission with the people we have here. Additionally, we are a family run business with our children around all the time so potential volunteers should be comfortable dealing with them on a daily basis. Volunteering here is not for everyone, we are remote and surrounded by jungle. Weak-hearted & overly sensitive need not apply, if you are scared of bugs, spiders and snakes then Central America in general is not for you. This is not the Disney version of the jungle. I say again, it is not for everyone. If you want adventure, are willing to rough it a bit and work hard, check us out. We are always looking for good people.

Area: Gaspé

Hi there ! We have a little company picking and processing wild mushrooms and plants. We are located in Douglastown, 25km away from the town of Gaspé, between Gaspé and Percé. It is a wonderful place for nature lovers (sea and forest, Forillon National Park,...). We live in the middle of a 55 acres forest, in a home-made wooden house. But we are only 4km away from a beautiful sandy beach... We are also starting a self-sufficient farm with rabbits, hens, geese, bees, sheep, cows etc...as well as an organic vegetable garden. This year, we will go on with the construction of our workshop. We are also planning the construction of a baker's oven. We have a wide range of work from babysitting to woodworking. We will need help to pick plants and mushrooms, to prepare the land (clearing, cleaning,...) and the new workshop. Workawayers work with us from monday to friday. It is mainly outdoor work, no matter the weather, so please take good shoes and some waterproof clothes. If you don't like the outdoor, we are definitely not the place for you ! Week ends are free (except if, sometimes, we have unexpected works, or mushrooms and plants picking to do !) so you can visit the region. If you take your week end off, you can come back in the evening and sleep in the shed if you wish. Helpers sleep in a nice cedar shed, in three wooden beds (ground sheets and sleeping bags required). The shed is also equipped with solar shower and dry toilet. If the shed is occupied, sleep in a tent on a platform. See pictures. We eat together, of course. Vegetarians and vegans are welcome but have to prepare their meals. The whole family speaks french (we come from Belgium), but I also speak english and spanish. I think I said it all ! There are a lot of different things to do, and the atmosphere is great when everybody enjoy the time we spend together. You must be in good health, open-minded and willing to do different types of jobs.
