My next destination:
Cusco, Peru - from May 2024 until Jun 2024 View allDescription
I consider my self a motivated, loving individual who's curious of the world. There's immense diversity and endless opportunity around, to meet & listen to others stories and to experience is in part what life is about.
I'm wanting to experience as much as possible during our short lives and believe workaway could be a wonderful way to do so.
Last year I spent a year on a tropical island within the Indian Ocean - Christmas Island 🦀. Working within conservation for National Parks, the year impart was a fabulous experience, integrating within a small community and experiencing a big beautiful tropical ocean in ways I hadn't before.
I however had spent a lot of my working years as a multi-day trekking guide within my island home of Tasmania, Australia. I feel at peace in remote places and feel through my experience have an eye for what guests expect from a tourism perspective. Since guiding I've fulfilled many roles: building walking tracks remotely, cooking food in Canada's highest restaurant, guiding teenage boys through in Quebec and helping with an olive harvest in Sicily.
Currently I'm cycling across South America, not the entire length but at this stage from San Pedro De Atacama in Chile -> Huaraz in Peru, avoiding sealed roads as much as possible. Currently I'm in Sajama National Park making my way to La Paz within the coming week. The motive for this trip is to experience travel slower to how I have in the past, witnessing unforgettable landscapes and experiencing beautiful interactions with remote communities, learning Spanish throughout my travels of course.
I consider myself an active person so physical activity is a key to my happiness, whether it's running, hiking, climbing, pulling weeds or lugging pavers! I'm hardworking with great initiative and am eager to work most tasks. I recently finished a diploma in Sustainable Living, anyway we're able to live more self-sufficiently and consciously excites me. Continuingly learning alternative methods to do so adds to my knowledge in the implemention to my own humble abode someday.
Through workaway'ing I hope to gain new knowledge, create memorable moments and, a major focus for me is to IMPROVE MY SPANISH, I don't like being monolingual!Interests

Formal study after year 12 have included a IV in Adventure Guiding, Wilderness First Aid Certification and working within the industry for 4 years. To be a multi-day bushwalking guide initially you're hired on your personality and hiking experience. But once you're in it the skill set is rather broad: preparing & cooking 3 meals for upto 14 people for days on end, facilitating a comfortable group atmosphere, managing a group on their ability and individual needs, people skills, psychologist, physiotherapist, story -teller, emergency maintenance person, educator, bus driver, house keeper and cleaner phew!
I'm fairly garden active and house hold savy when settled: mowing lawns, maintaining a vegetable garden and caring for chickens, fixing blinds, screwing cupboards, fixing washing machines, growing herbs, making jams, sewing. I consider myself intrigued by how things work and generally eager to give anything a go once shown the way.
I've invested in a camera for this trip, so photography is a continuing hobby.
Growing up we've had multiple pets - feeding, cleaning, brushing and most importantly loving furry friends is of second nature to me.
I've had multiple jobs working with children, taking them out bush for days and egging them on to the top of that rock climbing wall. I generally enjoy hanging out with children and caring for them, I admire the playfulness and curiosity that they possess and believe they're a fabulous way for me to improve Spanish.Age
