  • Description

I'm a university student currently traveling in Europe before my semester abroad at the University of Sussex. I am available for work away in the UK/Europe from mid-August through mid-September, 2023.

I study film at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and work as a reporter and editor for the campus newspaper, as well as a freelance photographer on the side. When I'm not working or studying, I most often spend my time exploring the outdoors and the world around me by hiking, running, or doing street and nature photography (I'm rarely out of the house without at least one camera). I also enjoy reading and writing, as well as cooking and baking. My true passion in life is to perceive reality as fully and deeply as possible, and I do that by exploring the world through travel, and meeting as many people as I can.

Throughout my childhood and adolescence, I was active in Boy Scouts and earned the organization's highest rank of Eagle Scout. Through my time in Scouts, I learned to appreciate the natural world, while bringing reverence and respect to the places I spend my time, whether that refers to a home, a community, or the planet at large.

  • More details about your skills

My primary expertise is in photography, film production, and journalism. That being said I am also a hard worker and a fast learner when it comes to all kinds of projects, whether that manual or creative labor. I am a proficient cook, and I was raised to clean up after myself and keep any home I'm in tidy. Manual labor is no issue for me, and I get a lot of fulfillment out of a hard day's work.

    Experience:
    -Photography
I've been a hobbyist photographer since I was 12 and got my first camera, and have been doing freelance portraiture work for the last three years to help pay for college. I also routinely have my work published in the newspaper I work for, so I have plenty of experience with documentary photography work.
    -Film Production
I've been a filmmaker since I first took a class on it in high school, and during the last few years, I've created and worked on 20+ short films. My primary interest is in documentary, although I have ample experience in all aspects of both narrative and documentary production (i.e. scripting, shoot planning, camera operation, audio collection, editing, etc.). My most recent project involved telling the story of a wrongfully incarcerated woman who has been imprisoned for the last 23 years for a murder that she did not commit. I am traveling with my personal camera and audio equipment, (everything I would need to create professional video or photo content) and have a broad range of experience with a variety of production equipment.
    -Journalism
I've been part of my universities campus paper since my first year there, starting as a video. reporter and then going on to run the video department as a member of the paper's editorial board. During my time leading the department, I transitioned our work toward a direct-to-social-media model with an emphasis on 1-3 min, engagement-focused content. While my primary focus was on video work, I also published many written pieces on campus and local news, marginalized communities, as well as several editorial pieces. I truly enjoy writing and have been told I have a unique talent for it. I have developed skills in story development and pitching, interviewing, and editing through my time at the paper.

I am also able-bodied and possess a strong work ethic when it comes to manual labor if you are not in need of any creative skills. I spent many of my summers maintaining my grandparent's ~100-acre property, so I have a fair bit of experience in general handiwork and am a fast learner who can pick up new skills very quickly whether by instruction or by teaching myself. I also participated in Boy Scouts throughout my childhood and picked up a large variety of skills relevant to working and living in the outdoors throughout my time with the org.
