Hi!
My name is Jack, I'm an adventurous, curious, and happy 24 year old excited to see where the world takes me!
I'm originally from New Zealand, but did my degree in Physics in Montreal, Canada where I am still currently based.
Though I work in computer science, my true love is music! I have been playing the saxophone and guitar for over 10 years, and I am currently in a rock band called Contessa. I have also spent many years making music tutorials on YouTube (link to my channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyxM2m-9PYQCfCENUVb0LpQ), which brings me a lot of joy.
I also adore everything outdoors and sports - I was lucky enough to play Ultimate Frisbee at the International Junior level for New Zealand, and continue to play tennis and run regularly. Hiking, biking, canoeing, running, climbing - I love 'em all!
I have always been most happy when I am meeting new people - whether at school or just in small interactions around, I get such a thrill having a laugh or sharing a story with new faces.
This year I am hoping to expand my horizons, getting better at music and exploring everything NEW that I can find. It's my first time using Workaway, but I'm already loving all the different opportunities I'm seeing.
Cannot wait to grab the future by the horns!Interests

English: Fluent

I would love to start feeling fluent and expressive in French, so any kind of language exchange / immersion would be awesome! I have worked in French so my level is quite high, however I would love to get to the point where I could understand jokes and have more of a personality in French. I am very happy to exchange my English speaking and / or teach English.Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

I have done a lot of tutoring in maths, science and even latin to students from ages 13-19 - I love to teach, it's something I always come back to, and I hope to teach a lot more in the future.
Though I have never before, I am confident I could give beginner music lessons on saxophone, guitar, or even piano (if very much a beginner). I have a Grade 8 Jazz Saxophone level on Alto.
In my description there is a link to my Youtube channel where I give music tutorials! I would happy to do this sort of teaching in person.
I have experience in a music studio and audio engineering, so I can assist with musical related projects in this way.
Currently I am working in tech, so I have computer skills (if you might want any help writing code). My job involves reading and understanding digital communication protocol specifications and translating them into Python code!
I have experience in leadership through captaining my university's ultimate frisbee team, so I am comfortable to take initiative and work towards a goal with a team!Age

What else ...
I have loved dancing in the past (ballroom), I also really enjoy other sports like squash and table tennis and spikeball.
I've also worked in hospitality before (which I loved), so I'm comfortable in the kitchen and/or interacting with patrons.
Finally, I used to work in manual labour, so I'm happy to roll my sleeves up and get stuck into any DIY / heavy lifting / gardening / painting projectSome more information

this was my first workaway and I had no idea really what to expect. Greg and Manon have set the bar super high - it was wonderful to feel instantly welcomed and trusted with helping on their house. I was with a group of 3 other workawayers and we all got on really well, enjoying time playing soccer in the garden with… read more
