I've been in Guatemala for about 7 weeks now, studying Spanish and political education for 5 of those weeks. I'm now headed to Colombia to continue exploring & learning Spanish por supuesto!

Description

What motivates me is mainly curiosity and openness! I want to see other parts of the world and escape my California bubble. I didn't study Spanish in high school, so I've always wanted to get a bit of a baseline with it. It feels essential to connect with people and also to get around comfortably. So much of the world speaks it, I want to a little as well. One goal of traveling is to meet all kinds of different people! I consider myself pretty friendly and outgoing and want to put that energy into a different place and community. I also like both cities and more rural areas. I like cities for the culture and diversity they bring but I also love nature, farming, and small community-oriented places. I'm pretty easy-going and have lived communally before.

Well, as far as language, I'm doing a Spanish immersion program for a month, and we'll see how good I'll be by the end of that. Hopefully, I can reach some kind of conversational level by the end! I've lived communally before both with roommates and in a cooperative housing situation. I'm friendly and easy-going and I think I can get along with most people easily! I've been to college and there I studied public health and environmental studies so that is some of the perspectives I bring. I've worked on multiple organic farms and have done some private gardening work. I still consider myself a beginner in that realm but I have a little bit of knowledge and experience there.

Some of my interests include: farming, environmentalism/ecology, public health, social justice, etc. I also love reading, listening to music and live music, hanging out with friends, cooking and eating good food and hiking, among other things.
