  • Description

Hi my name is Agnes and I am currently living in London, England. I attend the London University SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) where I am 2 years into a 3 year law degree.

This summer, I am so excited to take a break from my studies and travel the US. This trip has been long in the making, as I initially planned it over 3 years ago, only for my plans to be put on hold by COVID.

I have done 1 workaway before and absolutely loved the experience. I am very enthusiastic and happy to help out in any way that I can with whatever work needs doing, while also enjoying the more personal aspect of the exchange, in getting to know people in a way that only comes with living beside them.

Travel is also so important to me-- I really feel as if it makes me a better person meeting so many different people and seeing new places. Some of my favourite ever memories have been made by travelling and meeting new people, which I can't wait to do more of!

I grew up in a beautiful part of North England, the Lake District. So I love being outdoors-- hiking, swimming, cycling. I also enjoy living in London at the moment, being surrounded by a busy city. Here, I work part time in a pub, so I have no problem with being on my feet and running around for 12 hour shifts!

I can't wait to get out there to see new places and meet new people :)

I would love to learn French someday! My first workaway was staying with a French family and I loved being immersed in a different language, and I hope to further my knowledge of it.

  • More details about your skills

I have a really good work ethic and will throw myself at anything asked of me!
I have good people skills and plenty of experience in both professional and friendly situations, and have worked in customer service for years now. I also genuinely enjoy working with people which is evident when I am doing so.
Part of my working in customer service was as a supervisor in a restaurant, where I not only had to interact with customers but also had to manage the staff, which I both enjoyed and learned a lot from.

Also, last summer I went on a big trip to India, with 14 other people my age many of whom I did not know very well. On this trip we volunteered in a local primary school and renovated it, as well as completing an 11-day hike up the highest trekkable peak in India. The entire experience was amazing and although the skills it gave me are harder to define they were undoubtedly important! Teamwork, communication, perseverance, problem-solving, interacting with kids to list just a few. as well as a love for life and travel, and a desire to do much more!

Until COVID restrictions meant that I couldn't anymore, I have been volunteering for a year with a local dance group that provides dance lessons for a) adults with learning difficulties and b) elderly people, many of whom have dementia. I loved joining in in this dance class and I definitely learned a thing or two about how to interact with people with different needs and showed me how much fun it can be :) similarly, when I was younger, a friend and I ran a bingo club for a local care home. Again, this tested my ability to interact with people that are not all at the same stage of life as me, something that I very much enjoyed doing!

As well as good social skills I am also proficient in maths, and English, as well as having a fair bit of scientific and historical understanding. I very much enjoyed school and take great interest in academics! I have plenty of fun facts I can give you ;)

I am pretty physically fit! I enjoy many sports, mainly cycling and swimming outdoors, not to mention hiking in the Lake District (where I live), as well as the Himalayas as I mentioned before! I have also tried a wide range of others such as trampolining (which I did competitively for a few years) and kickboxing. I walk plenty every day and will not shy away from a physically demanding task.
