Description
While I have chosen to study international business, my interests lie much more in the “international” part. I have never had more enriching experiences in my life than when I dedicate myself to learning about new cultures and embrace new experiences. I worked with study abroad students in my own country for two years, which made me appreciate the good things about the United States, but also left me longing to experience something similar myself. As a result, I decided to study abroad during the 2021-2022 school year in Sevilla, Spain. Finding things I love and struggle with in Spain made me a more well-rounded person. I have a new perspective on my own values, and have seen how I need to adapt in the face of new ideas. Some of the things I love, like foods and friendly attitudes towards strangers, I took back with me to the United States, and made an integral part of my daily life. I did two Workaway programs in Europe following my year abroad in France and Belgium, and both provided me with some unforgettable experiences and skills. I have a thirst for knowledge, and am always looking to learn new skills and facts, whether it be in music, history, language, art or the outdoors. Workaway helped me to feed that thirst. This summer, I am meeting with my sister following a study abroad program she is doing in Amsterdam, but will have some time in the interim after arriving in Europe. I am hoping that I can spend some of that interim time connecting with people from new countries and helping out on interesting service projects. Through Workaway, I want to expose myself to even more new cultural and educational opportunities, as well as share what I have learned with others.

I have been studying in Sevilla, Spain for the last year, and therefore have real-world experience adapting to a new cultural and living environment. I am also mostly fluent in Spanish because of my studies both in Spain and at my home university. I worked for two years as a counselor for a study abroad program in California, where I supported high-school-aged students from Italy, Japan, Germany and many other countries, so I am very comfortable working with people from many different places. I did a remote internship with an Irish startup company during the pandemic, giving me basic business skills and allowing me to construct business reports and documents. I also work at my university’s Student Technology Center, which has given me knowledge of computer software like Photoshop, Audacity, Excel, and various video editors. Additionally, I am an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, which gave me many opportunities to live in the outdoors and work with my hands.
