Description
Kia Ora (hello)!
I'm Wiremu Hohaia, a Māori and part Dutch traveller from New Zealand. The past 17 years, I've been living in Australia where I studied Cognitive Neuroscience and worked in laboratories and medical manufacturing. Part-time, I worked as an artist, exhibiting and selling paintings and merchandise.
Some general interests: Photography, music production, DJ'ing, painting, ceramic art, skateboarding, scuba diving, poetry, hiking, food, science, philosophy, cultural diversity, reading and writing, nature, as well as cities.
I value very highly, minimalism and contentedness above abundance and happiness. I don't require much to fulfil my life. This has lead me to favour solitude, nature, and simple living. I am very interested in eco living, permaculture, and DIY. I often dream about one day producing my own honey, to spread on my homemade bread, upon a chair I'd made, before a landscape that warms me inside. A blank canvas waits for me to finish breakfast. I see my time during Workaway stays as a time to learn essential skills to setup my own home one day.
I look forward to meeting you. Chances are, you may become the subject of a painting, photograph, poem, or may inspire a compositional piece of music.
Warm regards,
Your personal artist.Interests

OUTDOORS:
- House renovation/DIY (in New Zealand, our family would renovate houses).
- Woodwork skills (in high school, I studied woodwork).
- Farming (some experience in New Zealand on family farms with cattle, sheep, lambs, pigs, chickens)
- Fruit orchards (one of my favourite destinations, my grandfather's mandarin orchard. He taught me a lot, mostly the value of caring for your fruits).
- Classic car restoration (I restored my first car with my dad, an 1965 Wolseley 24/80).
- Gardening (my parents have a small amount of land with flower and vegetable gardens and chickens. I often help them).
INDOORS:
- Cooking (I was training to become a Chef. I stopped half-way through to go to university. Though my passion for cooking has remained).
- Sewing (My mum was a dressmaker when she was young. I became interested in fashion in high school. I would make various garments for myself and gifts to others).
- Painting (I have been making art since I was 6 years old).
- Poetry (Poetry is interesting for me, because I enjoy finding the exact words that best convey emotions. I recently published a small poetry book).
- Videography (in high school I studied film and television, where I learnt how to create a narrative using videos).
- Computer programming (while working in labs, I learnt how to program experiments. This biggest lesson I took from this, was an appreciation for logic-based reasoning).
- Skateboarding (I have been skateboarding for 7 years. For some of that time, I was coaching children).
- Course tutor (I love teaching. I worked as a course tutor at university for a couple years. I taught computer programming, topics on sensory neuroscience, and statistics).
- Computer skills (I learned essential skills at university on topics of data visualisation, statistics, and academic writing).
- Electronic music production. (I have been producing music for around 4 years. I have released 2 singles and an album on international record labels).
- DJ (the past 2 years, I have been occasionally DJ'ing in Brisbane City, Australia. I'm always interested in sharing these experiences with people).Age

The scenery is really gorgeous. The Uchida family were very helpful, kind, and cooked incredible food. They also actively helped with language exchange. I felt very at home here and will always… read more
