After finishing my high school one year ago I was sure that I would pick up my studies but I decided to have a gap year in France. Although that year of volunteering was a big challenge since I have never spoken French before in my life, it was the best year I could have imagined and I gained lots of experiences and I learned much about myself and my goals and values in life. After this year of exploring and discovering the unknown I decided the only right thing to do is doing a backpacking adventure in New Zealand. It was always my dream seeing and exploring New Zealand and I am happy that I am now brave enough to be here. While I am here I'd like to meet locals and accompany them through their all-day life. This seems the perfect way to learn about another culture I haven't been in touch so far and learning about new things I haven't tried yet. Using Workaway I'd like to learn and discover new activities/works I haven't done before, so all the work on farms and in the nature is something new for me since I only worked with disabled people in a house community helping them with their all-day challenges.

Since I worked in a community with mentally handicapped people last year I am able to do most of the tasks in the house, I cooked for a big group, I assisted the residents while washing and getting dressed, helped with the laundry and other tasks. I was also able to work some hours in a garden, so working with a chainsaw, building a shed and sewing, harvesting is nothing new to me. I am a team player so communication is something essential for me while working. I generally am an outdoor person and like working in gardens, forests, farms etc.

What else ...
I would consider myself as a enthusiastic and easy-going person that wants to learn more about this world and its people. I am a pretty quiet guy atleast until I get to know the people I am around with better. One of my goals in New Zealand is to meet people and create friendships that may hold for many years and I feel like Workaway is a pretty good tool to find like-minded people. In my last year I discovered my love for hikes, so I guess New Zealand can offer me dozens of hundreds of hiking trips in great landscapes. There is just something satisfying in ascending mountains that let's me forget all bad things. My passion for photography comes handy with my love for hikes. I photograph many motives from landscapes, birds and wildlife to cities, friends and family gatherings. Sometimes if I find the time I enjoy sketching/drawing and watercolouring the world around me. Mostly the paintings aren't very detailed and rather rough but it's a nice way for me to keep my memories. My bucket list for New Zealand is to work on different farms and going for some nice hikes maybe even one in the backcountry and I'd love to fish myself or be a member of a sailing ship crew for few days.
