  • Description

We are both very passionate about all things nature and the environment, however we both studied different subjects. I have completed a Bachelors in Ecology and the Environment and then a Masters in Wildlife Filmmaking Production before getting a job at a tree planting charity. Nauris completed a Bachelors degree in Footwear Design and then a Masters in Craft. We want to make a positive impact on the world, and always strive to do so, be it at protests, through our work or in individual lifestyle changes. We have been together for almost 9 years now and have decided to move to Spain full time to experience something new and learn the language and get familiar with the culture, so doing a workaway seemed like the best way to get a head start. We are very social, hard-working and really enjoy meeting new people.

  • More details about your skills

I studied marine and terrestrial systems at university, learnt and did practical conservation, wrote scientific reports and used GIS and statistical programmes.
I also have a Masters which gave me practical filmmaking skills, including the use of cameras and sound equipment, edit videos and the ability to write and produce wildlife documentaries.
I have worked for the past year and 9 months as a woodland creation officer at a tree planting charity where I worked with local communities, private landowners and schools to develop, map, consult and plant woodland creation schemes. Here, I also gained practical skills in hedge laying, dry stone walling, invasive species, arbiculture and habitat surveying.
I have experience working with children, doing a placement in a secondary school as a teaching assistant, as a lifeguard, at the tree planting charity through school events and even with the education of my younger, home-educated siblings.
I have experience working with animals; volunteering at a wildlife zoo, horse-riding for a year, owning and rearing chickens and rabbits.
I have helped my parents with the renovation of my family home which involved stripping walls, repainting, woodwork and window glazing, amongst many other DIY skills.
I am also able to play the saxophone, do ceramics, sew, and row.
I am a very active individual, with no issues doing physical activity.

Nauris is originally from Latvia and moved to the UK in 2013. He learnt how to make shoes whilst studying footwear design at London College of Fashion. There he found his love for hand-making things and working with his hands. This is why he decided to do Craft when we moved to Manchester. There he started to work with wood, metal, ceramics, jewellery and learnt how to make molds and do casting. He is generally very good with doing any kind of manual labour and is quick at learning new things. Outside of his studies he has always loved cooking which made him become a baker, which is where he has been working for the past year, so he knows how to cook and bake to a high standard. He also has done several renovations either helping his parents in Latvia or more recently at my (Olive) parents house.

  • What else ...

I have recently taken up bouldering as a hobby, as well as dance. I love all kinds of board games, having a large collection at home. I mostly just like being outside in nature, walking, swimming, hiking or running. I love spending time with my friends and family, often going to music events with all of them.

Nauris has a lot of hobbies which keeps him busy in his free time, including cooking, especially baking, reading or riding his motorbike. He stays active by going to play basketball or joining me in bouldering. Since finishing university a year ago, he expresses his creativity through making jewellery.
