Description
Starting out as a fine artist, moving into music, travel, crafts, teaching, massage; child, pet and elderly care, i've been living in a seaside town near Cape Town for the past 15 years after spending time in Namibia, USA, UK, Wales, Switzerland and Mozambique.
14 years ago i became interested in permaculture, natural farming and nature conservation. After doing some reading, watching videos and attending a few workshops, i decided to look for people who have more experience in these practices.
The first place i was introduced to was an organic farm in Cape Town. I helped with their veggie garden for one week/month over 6 months in 2010. A few years later i went to Coffee Bay, Eastern Cape where i worked in a permaculture garden for a month. Next was an animal sanctuary learning about the joys and challenges of domestic farm life with over 90 pigs, a few sheep, goats, cows and geese. This led me to become curious about finding ways to create &/ support systems that provide an interdependence between humans and other members of the ecosystem and i decided to look for places demonstrating more of this.
For a few weeks i assisted with the development of an off-grid homestead-guesthouse and eco-education center in a montane forest area. During this time i became more aware of how vibrant all the creatures were able to be in a forest environment. Someone i met there recommended i visit an ecosystem restoration project, so i made contact, visited them and helped there with alien vegetation clearing for a few months between 2018 & 2021.
All these projects were recommended to me by friends/people i met along the way. This is also how i found out about WorkAway. Many traveling volunteers have told me wonderful things about this platform.
In 2018 & 19 I spent a few weeks working on an organic farm and a permaculture garden in a game reserve in the Western Cape of South Africa.
When i’m home I help with a community garden project: compost, weeding & watering.
If you think any of my skills and experience could be of assistance, you’re welcome to contact me.
As a social introvert, i enjoy interacting with people, plants and animals, but also appreciate spending time on my own.Interests
