  • Description

    Hey, Juli here :)
I had some great experiences with Workaway last year (2023) when I did my gap year and kind of solo travelled through Canada for 2,5 months! While I started my studies in Engineering, I still use every moment that I can get to travel and explore even if it is more closer to home now :) Right now I have planned to got to Portugal in March (9th until 21th) and I would love to find a short-term host for maybe a week or a couple of days! I am looking for a great experience, fun work with great people, animals or whatever you have to offer! I also want to use my time to explore different areas of Portugal.

I love being outside, around animals, exploring our lovely world, meeting and connecting with new amazing people, opening my horizon and just enjoying my gap year.
I am 20 years old, from southern germany. I started my bachelor of engineering studies in autumn 2023.
After finishing high school last summer, I went to Ireland and did a study abroad semester, which was one of the best experiences in my life so far! Just an amazing experience. It was a programme to get a taste of university life and to try out different fields. I had an engineering/programming course, politics, psychology (my secret favorite), and sociology.
But after I came back I immediatly wanted to see more of the world. I always wanted to go to Canada (down that now!), Iceland, scandinavia, someday! But I am also interested in other destinations (politically stable would be good), something warm also sounds great ;)

I have always been a very curious person, interested in a lot, and always with a drive to evolve. Always open for a philosophical, or whatever conversation. I love to hear other opinions and discuss random topics.

I have experience in working with kids and animals (mostly horses), gardening and maintenance around the house, just look at my skills below. I would love to work with kids, animals, spending some of the time at a ranch or farm would also be great. I like the vibrant life in the city as well as living surrounded by nature.

I want to combine working, meeting people and travelling, and in general seeing great countries, nature and people!

    Any other questions? Sounds good?
    Then just text me :)
    Have a lovely day!

  • More details about your skills

    Soo my skills...
I have experience in ranch work, I started horseriding when I was 9, worked with and around horses and the stables in my leisure time. So I am used to working in stables and outdoors. I have also been giving riding lessons for a few years now, so I have also experience in working with kids :)
Apart from horses I love almost all animals, dogs might be my favorite! So some animals around will always make me happy! (as long as the animals are happy)

Back to the children, I also did some private tutoring (mostly maths, and some english), I enjoy it in general, when I can help and see kids evolve and grow, and beeing a small part in this process is just awesome! I got some experience through taking care of two kids (age 6 and 9) in a lovely host family last year. I helped them getting ready for school, preparing basic food, play time and helping with homework.

I also volunteered in an elderly home when I was younger.

An important part for me is sports in general, I love being active and have variety in my sports routine. I like going to the gym, ultimate frisbee, cycling, swimming, climbing, yoga, pilates. I also tried out judo and I really enjoyed it. And I did horse riding half my life, currently more training with horses on the ground or teaching than riding myself.

I learn to play the piano and I like working on just different kinds of skills such as programming, language learning, geography, ... I just love to learn new stuff!

I would say I am good in organising things (and most of the time being organised), I was part of planning some events, like our graduation ball in high school.

I would not say I have much experience with gardening, but I was occasionally helping my grandma or my mum out. So far, my own plants have also survived somehow! I got some experience when I worked with Workaway in Canada, I did a lot of garden maintenance like cutting branches and trees, chain sawing, planting, weeding and helping rearrange the garden and a Terrasse or mowing the gras.

German is my native language. I speak english quite fluently (I studied in ireland for a semester) and some french. I learned it in school, but I was never on the level I wished I would get. But, that is a goal for my gap year, I currently invest some time every day in to improve my french.

My sisters conclusion was, that I am good with animals and humans ;)

Even though I am creative, so far that does not really apply on cooking :( I can make food and but I like being efficient in the kitchen haha. But through living alone for some months that definatly got better.

I am open to learn new skills and improve my current skills. That might be my biggest asset, beeing curious for everything, always want to learn or improve something!
