Description
Hello hosts and fellow travelers!
I'm Jonas, a 33-year-old German with a heart full of wanderlust and a keen interest in cultural exchange. As an enthusiastic traveler, I'm not just looking for a place to stay but for a place and people to connect with. I like taking my time to get to know an area, it's nature, culture and people, rather than hopping around every few days.
I'm currently in between jobs and took the opportunity to get to know Portugal. I'm looking forward to skill sharing, to exchange experiences and to get involved in meaningful projects during my stay here.
In my downtime I thrive on staying active, especially in nature. Whether it's rock climbing, biking through scenic trails (or just from A to B in the city), hiking or dancing contact improvisation. I also enjoy the calmness and tranquility of hosting massage evenings with friends, doing yoga, going for a walk or reading a book.
Another passion of mine are the culinary arts: I enthusiastically ferment, cook, bake and of course relish every outcome. I'm convinced that sitting together around a table and sharing food is the healthiest and most enjoyable way to eat.
I'm curious and I pick up new skills swiftly. I consider myself a handy person. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge and I'm equally excited to learn from all the new experiences you and your project have to offer. I'm especially excited to learn more carpentry/building skills and about permaculture techniques (most of all composting and water management).Interests

For years I've had the idea of teaching German in a non-typical way. Since it's known to be one of the harder languages to learn, I've witnessed many people shy away from learning it. Through my own experiences of learning other languages, I've come to the insight that it's most important to be able to communicate sufficiently, rather than speak a language to perfection. I am interested in helping someone reach a level of being able to communicate in German.Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

My skill set is broad and ranges from cooking and household tasks to gardening, physical work, and basic craftsmanship skills. I grew up as the son of a vet and have always had animals around, so taking care of them comes natural to me. One of my strongest skills however is knowing how to learn new skills: I'm quick to process new information and when in doubt know how to ask for help or use the internet to look up what I need.

What else ...
In my workaway experiences I want to leave the places I visit better than I found them. I'm looking forward to enthusiastically applying myself to build, clean, organize, bring flow and share what I can. In exchange I expect not much, but that is essential to me: I want to learn something and I want to be appreciated: by words and gestures, clean housing and good healthy food. None of these need to be luxurious or expensive, for example a simple vegetarian/vegan meal with quality ingredients makes me very happy (and I'm happy to cook it for us, too!). And I expect these to be given with the same enthusiasm I meet you and your project with. In other words: I want to meet you, learn from you and share with you. I do not want to be understood as a cheap laborer. If you feel doubtful about any of these, please reach out and let's talk about what we can give and what we need to be fully there.

Feedback
Had a lot of fun with this 'psychotherapist in training' - he really pulled hard when we had a deadline.
He consistently showed up and put the work in and had quite a good eye for landscaping work.
Thanks Jonas
