Lea is a lovely girl, very open and respectful. From the moment she arrived, I felt comfortable with her. She's a very hard worker, always concerned about my well-being. When we went to my parents' farm, she was a great help despite the cold weather and how uncomfortable it made the work. She didn't mind working on the weekend and taking her days off during the week. She was very communicative at all times, always asking questions when she had doubts before starting a task. I hope to see her again in the not-too-distant future!

I have been Margaret’s first Workawayer, so we were making things up as we went along. Somewhat oddly so at times! Hers is a truly gorgeous property and her constant diligence in her garden surely Shows. It’s lush and imaginatively diverse, and SO picturesque…in whatever direction your eye travels. While I was here in autumn I can only imagine how glorious it is in springtime! Margaret has a lovely and comfortably elegant home, and the separate upstairs apartment (guesthouse) is definitely a bonus for any visitor – very comfy-cozy and nicely appointed, had everything I needed (although there’s no TV or freezer). Margaret herself is a total dynamo, and as a visiting American I’d say with great affection she’s “a character.” Conversations with her are always lively and then some. Time and again, she also surprised me with her hospitality as she was always so thoughtful about my needs, including inviting me to several meals and tea/coffee times with her -- she’s a Marvelous cook/baker so those were always a treat indeed, plus included yet more visiting together. We worked side by side on a few occasions in her garden, but my primary duties during my 3-week stay entailed interior and exterior painting (including some minor putty replacement), transforming a large built-in kitchen cupboard with chalk paint, and the overhaul of a sizable closet. I suggested a self-catering arrangement as that’s what I’m used to (having volunteered extensively as a house/pet-sitter via another site), so we adjusted accordingly. Her property’s lovely rural setting is nevertheless just a short few minutes’ drive into town with very nearby groceries, etc. (Roscrea has about 5K residents and the town itself is nicely sized with Lots of services, shops & restaurants/pubs on offer.) Margaret refers to herself as a Luddite and indeed texting or leaving voicemails on either of her phones tends to produce no response, so it’s important to just find her in-person (and emails might be delayed as well). As we were indeed making things up as we went, I have every confidence she’ll now be fully Ready when she welcomes her next volunteer(s)…as my stay here was actually on referral from her daughter, Heather, also a Workaway host, as she’s the one I originally reached out to -- and she then asked immediately if I’d be willing to come help her mum as her accommodations were full-up just then. Given the short lead time too my stay was also Very spur of the moment, which made her gracious and congenial hosting all the more noteworthy overall. Thannnks again for everything, m’dear! : D

Kevin and Christine stayed with us for a week. They are a lovely, warm and friendly couple and are excellent workers. They just got on and did their work without supervision. This included a variety of tasks from lawn mowing, thinning apple trees, weeding, and cutting kindling. They also cooked us a wonderful traditional Singapore chicken soup with stir fried broccoli and rice. Delicious! They are great conversationalist's and it was fascinating learning about life in Singapore. We can highly recommend Kevin and Christine to any prospective host. All the best for the rest of your time in Aotearoa!

My stay on Rangitoto ki te Tonga was a highlight of my trip to New Zealand. Here you live close to the land, eating fruits and vegetables from the garden, and venison and fish from the surrounding land and sea. It is isolated, which is exactly the experience I wanted, but Brent (and pointer/lab mix, Jess) are good company so you don’t feel alone. Plus, you’re well connected with Starlink at the house. Work was done mostly alongside the host, and consisted of gardening and landscaping projects, cleaning and housework, and cleaning up plastics and driftwood on the beach. There was no work directly with the cattle and sheep for me, though depending on circumstances, there could be. He had earlier moved his beehives to another location so I didn’t work with them. The work hours were fair, and weather dictates what can be done when. During the times it wasn’t super windy, Brent took me fishing for blue cod (which we battered and fried for dinner), and visiting at the little settlement of French Pass. There is also swimming and hiking and bird-watching to do. It was fascinating to hear some of Brent’s stories, and to learn some of the Kiwi and Maori culture. And if you are a hunter you will love it here! Hunting for fallow and red deer was an amazing experience. I’m thankful that Brent didn’t get annoyed at me sometimes when we were working outside and I had to keep pausing to take some photos. Here in the Marlborough Sounds you are absolutely surrounded by picture-perfect landscapes. In fact, even though the French Pass Road was triggering for my fear of heights, the sweeping views of the green hills and turquoise water from the road were some of the most awesome I’ve ever seen. This is a valuable and memorable opportunity for the right (nature-loving) volunteer. Thanks, Brent and Jess!

We spent our last couple of weeks in Italy house and pet sitting for Sally and it was a wonderful experience! Benito and Maia are beautiful doggos and we loved taking care of them. Sally and her son Umberto are amazing hosts with whom we shared some great food and conversations and Sally is very knowledgeable about the local history! During our stay here we we had the opportunity to explore some beautiful locations such as Lake Garda and Verona and if we had more time there are so many more places nearby. Thanks so much for such a wonderful experience guys!

I stayed here for almost a month and had a really chill, enjoyable experience. Most of my time was spent working on their website and helping plan tours for 2026. The hostel itself is beautiful, and I loved hanging out in the café while working and getting to know the staff. Although Ana wasn’t around during my stay, I got to know Sezim and Kolbay, her sister-in-law and brother, as well as their daughter Tatu. They were often busy, but whenever I needed anything they were always there to help. Overall, a very relaxed and welcoming place to volunteer.

Being part of this place for two weeks was one of the most meaningful volunteering experiences I’ve ever had. It’s hard to describe the magic of this place: incredible people who truly care about others and about the world. It’s very rewarding to feel that you’re part of something that is helping to make the world a better place. The people have amazing energy, the place is beautiful, the volunteer infrastructure is very comfortable, and the learning you get there is huge. I only have great things to say about Liselotte and everyone who makes this place what it is. Thank you Liselotte for your kindness, warmth and friendship. I will always be a friend and I will carry everyone in my heart.

Trish and Rick are wonderful hosts! This was my first Workaway experience and they made it a great one. Their kindness and generosity made me feel very welcome in their beautiful home. After I finished my work for the day, we spent lots of time enjoying great conversation, music, culture and meals together. They're easy to work with and to talk to. When my stay was over, they were so nice to offer me a lift to the airport. I enjoyed my time spent there and would happily visit again!

We highly, highly recommend this Workaway — it couldn’t have been better. The work was diverse and never difficult. During our stay we helped with different tasks: cutting small trees, feeding the animals and cleaning after them, digging water channels, collecting weeds, and even creating content for Instagram. On some days we also did small art projects, which made the experience even more special and creative. This is a non-commercial project — everything you do helps to develop the house further for future travelers. Freddy is a wonderful person and an inspiring host. He truly wants you not only to help him, but also to explore and enjoy his country. He gave us great tips about places to see, local foods to try, and things we shouldn’t miss. Thanks to him we tried almost all traditional dishes his wife cooked. He also regularly brought us fresh vegetables and other products. We were very lucky with the accommodation: we stayed in a small separate house with a double bed, a table, and a wardrobe. Other volunteers stayed at the camping area. The place has everything you need — a warm shower, a well-equipped kitchen, clean and comfortable toilets, and even bicycles that you can take to the beach. The home is full of chill spaces like sofas and hammocks, perfect for relaxing after work. Freddy speaks only Spanish, and our Spanish was quite basic, but we never had any communication problems. He was incredibly patient, always spoke slowly, used simple words and even taught us a lot of new vocabulary. It felt more like learning from a friend than from a “host”. Overall, we totally loved everything about our stay. The house is a unique, warm, and peaceful place run by a genuinely kind and generous person. We left with beautiful memories, new skills, and the feeling that we contributed to something meaningful.

The lovely couple stayed with us for about a week. They are both diligent workers and a real pleasure to have around. We had a great time together. They are easygoing , fun to talk to and great cooks. They are super friendly and open minded. They helped us in many ways and we were very grateful for all their help and support. I extremely happy that we choose to host them. We definitely recommend them.

I only spent a few weeks at Karen’s place, in what I like to call her « house of happiness ». Despite my imperfect English, the whole family was incredibly patient and attentive, which made me feel truly welcomed and included. Sharing and connecting really define this experience. Karen’s family is used to hosting Workawayers, and you can feel it every member of the household is warm and kind. They live in an idyllic setting. If you enjoy going for walks, watching the ocean, admiring sunsets, and relaxing, Roberts Creek is the perfect place. You feel like you’re in a little bubble, surrounded by animals and forest. The local community is just as lovely and always ready to lend a hand. I really enjoyed the time I spent with the family, the home, the conversations, the stories, and even the mix of French/Chinese/English all in one meal. We laughed a lot, and I’ll keep wonderful memories of it all. Thank you again for welcoming me and for showing me the Sunshine Coast. You truly live in a little piece of paradise in Canada! See you soon, take care, I’ll always keep a warm thought for you.

I had a great experience at Massimo's place . He took me out to eat pizza with his friends and also showed me around the city in his car and these gestures felt really special. And the beautiful peaceful city of Trieste. The sunset's were amazing. The location of Trieste makes it very easy to go for day trips to Slovenia, Croatia and Austria . I felt comfortable at Massimo's place and he respects the privacy of his guests. And when I left I got really attached to the parrots at his place🥹❤️ I'll miss you guys.🦜 I met some amazing co workers too Ruben , Bashir and Xander 🫂. And lastly thanks again Massimo for hosting me 🙏The help was mutual brother 🤍 I hope we see each other again.

Lorna and Jonathan welcomed me into their beautiful property for a week and I really enjoyed helping them by taking care of the outdoor areas. There is always plenty to do and the tasks are very diverse! Beyond the work, I was able to share many lovely moments with them and their family during different events. Their kindness and patience allowed me to feel like myself from the very beginning of the week. I’m grateful for the trust they placed in me. I hope to see you again soon for new adventures!

I have a complicated house that is remote and completely off-grid. I am also very particular about a number of things. Mark did a great job of managing the house and respecting my particularities. This house and landscape were in perfect condition on my return after a three month absence. I also trusted Mark with the care and feeding of my beloved dog HarLee. He was very kind and loving to HarLee and sent many pictures and videos of her so I would not miss her as much while away. Mark came into contact with several of my friends and neighbors while I was away and they all commented on how well he took care of HarLee. I would not hesitate to have Mark come back and care for both HarLee and my home the next time I am away.

Staying with Kirsten and Damien was a wonderful experience. From the very beginning they were super communicative and always checked in to make sure I had everything I needed during my stay. They are kind, welcoming people, and I felt comfortable in their home right away. Pancake is such an easy-going cat — a little shy at first, but the more he gets to know you, the more you’ll fall in love with him. I had a great time taking care of him, and he absolutely loves his snuggles. He’s a sweetheart and such a joy to spend time with. Even though they had just moved into an old house and were in the middle of renovations, they made sure I was always okay and included. I really appreciated their openness and positivity, and I wish them the best of luck with the rest of the renovation process. I would totally recommend Kirsten and Damien to any Workawayer. They are genuine, thoughtful hosts and I’m grateful for the time I spent with them — and with Pancake, of course!

Rita is an exceptional host. I imagine the founders of Workaway had hosts like her in mind when they originally built the platform. She’s harnessed the wisdom and experience of her life and is building something truly special in the highlands above Bogotá. The garden complex is a BEAUTIFUL labor of love. It was a privilege to contribute to its caretaking during our short stay. Rita’s expectations for work and taking care of the home are clear and common sense. As a host, she made it easy to share the space. Her tremendous cooking and community-oriented attitude made mealtime a joy. Some other volunteers overlapped with our stay and we had a splendid time getting to know each other, but we also all had a private space and plenty of time “off the clock” for ourselves. Speaking of time off, Rita also gave us everything we needed to figure out the bus system to visit Bogotá on the weekends. From Rita’s house, the only sign of the massive city is the faint glow that comes off the mountain ridge at night. This made our city trips even more exciting. We are so happy we found this workaway!
