Hugo is a fantastic young man, very polite and respectful. From the very beginning he was cheerful, proactive, and always willing to help. The whole family has been delighted with him. The children enjoyed spending time with him, and he showed great patience, creativity, and responsibility in their care. He speaks English fluently and made every effort to communicate and integrate, showing genuine interest in our culture, traditions, and daily life. Hugo adapted perfectly to all situations, always with a positive attitude and a smile. His sociable nature made it easy for him to connect with everyone, from the grandparents at lunchtime to the wider community. We are very grateful for his dedication and kindness during his stay. He leaves behind wonderful memories, and we already miss him. We wholeheartedly recommend Hugo to any family or host, he will be an asset wherever he goes.

Loane came to stay on Macleay Island for a week and it was a pleasure to have her stay. I needed help in the garden and Loane completed all tasks with a smile and ease. Loane did a fantastic job setting up my garden beds and clearing bamboo. I highly recommend Loane to other hosts and look forward to potentially hosting Loane again in the future.

It was a pleasure to host Fynlay and Sam. They sent me a last minute request and I wasn’t ready to host again as the previous 2 weeks had been hectic. However, their needs were few and they set about creating a cubicle for an outdoor shower with minimal input from me. The surf rack they built made it possible to move my old boards from the shelter next to the new shower cubicle and start creating a lovely nature/utility spot. I’m sorry my little Chihuahua didn’t warm to Oakley, their beautiful furry friend. He was amazing and stayed out of sight most of the time. I enjoyed the couple of shared meals and conversation we had once I became more organised and had time to purchase fresh home grown vegetables from Mams vegies. I would welcome Fynlay and Sam back here and recommend them highly.

Tamás volunteered with us for over six months and proved to be a reliable and responsible member of our sanctuary community. His tasks ranged from driving and construction using recycled materials to daily animal care for both horses and small animals. He consistently followed our procedures, worked safely, and showed clear commitment to the wellbeing of the animals. He also took on weekend management responsibilities, a role we only assign to people we fully trust. In this position, he ensured routines were followed, animals were cared for properly, and the sanctuary operated smoothly. In addition, he contributed regularly to kitchen duties, supporting our freegan, sustainable food system and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation. Tamás respected and embraced our sustainable lifestyle, including solar energy systems, water-saving practices, and reusing materials throughout the finca. He integrated well into the community, communicated clearly, and remained dependable throughout his stay. We can confidently recommend Tamás to any host seeking a committed, trustworthy, and competent volunteer.

Gracias.

My friend Rose and I stayed here for 5 days in September 2025. We did a variety of things including helping kids at the local school with their English. This is something we had not done before and we were a bit nervous. Things had really been thought out in advance and we needn't have worried.  The games we played with the kids were really fun. We also did some weeding and tidying in the yard in front of the bungalow where we staye and helped to develop the homestay. We learned loads about the history of the tea plantations and the local wildlife. He was extremely generous with his time, taking us to see local temples, nature walks, and meeting local people. The accommodation was simple, originally built for indentured tea plantation workers in the 1930s. We loved getting to know his parents, and his mother's food was superb. We never did quite get up Narangala Mountain - something for next time. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.

My experience with this host was truly enriching. The place is surrounded by beautiful nature, and the environment itself is very enjoyable and peaceful. The activities can be physically demanding at times, but this is completely normal for farm work — and it’s part of what makes the experience authentic. The accommodation and food are simple and modest, but with Jack and Yam everything becomes easier, lighter, and much more enjoyable. They are kind, supportive, and always willing to guide you. I learned so much from them about organic farming, beekeeping, and animal care. If you are interested in experiencing real organic farming and learning hands-on skills, I highly recommend joining their amazing team. I’m grateful for the time I spent there and for everything they taught me.

I had a fantastic first Workaway experience in Fran’s Finca and I could not have asked for better! Fran is a brilliant host, from clear written down instructions to making sure your learning objectives are taken into account. She is very caring about animals and ecology and it shows in her way of living. She loves her 2 donkeys, her cat & kittens as well as her chickens and budgies. I love sunrises and being up at dawn with a beautiful sunrise above the olive grove while taking care of the animals was such a pleasure. One of my objectives was to learn more about off-grid living. She had solar power and rainwater collection – both are used with care and still a very comfortable living. The wood stove had an oven on top of it which was used to bake in while both of us profited from a nice evening discussion in front of the heat. I also learnt about regenerative soil, how to make biochar, pruning, wicking beds, 2 methods to preserve olives and a lot more. Furthermore, I got to know the region with several outings: biking to the pebble beach in L'Ametlla de Mar, a visit to Tarragona (well worth it if you are in the surroundings) and much more! And all this in only 2 weeks. My Work-away was more like a Work-holiday, I loved it and would truly recommend it. Thanks, Fran, I'm very grateful for such a wonderful stay!

Dario and Parvati are such generous and open people. It was such a pleasure to spend time with them. Even though our stay was short, and rainy, we still feel we got to learn some of the principles behind Dario’s project. The location is stunning, nestled in a beautiful part of the island and close to some amazing natural sites.

I spent 6 great weeks at Ralph's old mill as my first workaway. The experience was superb, as Ralph and Andrea really helped a lot to make me feel at home. I learned a lot of new stuff when working on some of the projects we did, which was fun and very interesting. The location of the property is really perfect for walks, bike rides and really peaceful. I can only thank Ralph and Andrea Enough for their hospitality and for some great memories. Maxime

It was my first Workaway experience and truly a great one. Claudia is a wonderful woman who welcomed me warmly. Communication was excellent, and whenever spontaneous changes came up, we always found a good solution together. The wooden house I stayed in was also outstanding. I’d love to stay there again someday.

My experience volunteering here was truly exceptional — honestly, it felt much more like joining a family than a volunteer position. From the very first day, the sense of community they’ve created welcomed me in completely. Everyone supports each other, shares meals, laughs together, and makes you feel at home instantly. Even though the hostel is new, the team behind it has years of experience running other hostels, and you can feel that expertise in every little detail. The atmosphere is unique — professional but relaxed, organized but always full of warmth and good vibes. They’ve managed to build a beautiful balance between creating an efficient space and a genuine community. I learned a lot, felt valued, and enjoyed every moment. I’m truly grateful for the time I spent here and for the people who made it special. I totally recommend this place to anyone looking for a meaningful experience and a real connection with others. Thanks Edgar, Cleo and Fang, what an amazing crew!

We spent two and a half wonderful weeks with Will and Jan, and we couldn’t have asked for a better Workaway experience. Their home is set in a beautiful landscape surrounded by olive fields, and we were lucky to stay in a lovely private lodge that felt cozy and comfortable from the first day. Will and Jan are genuinely warm, easy-going, and thoughtful hosts. Will prepared delicious, often elaborate meals for us, and Jan was a relaxed and supportive supervisor who made every task feel enjoyable. Our work was varied and interesting: we helped with the olive harvest, painted the balcony, cut wood, and did some weeding in the garden. Beyond the work, they welcomed us fully into their life. We joined them on a boat trip out to the sea and even accompanied them to dinners with their friends, which made us feel truly included. Overall, we were extremely happy with our stay. It was a meaningful, fun, and memorable experience, and we would gladly return. Wholeheartedly recommended!

I was with Fran and Christian for three weeks, a lovely family and it was a wonderful time! My tasks included helping to burn branches, making firewood, weeding, planting trees and walking with the dogs. My own little accommodation was a dream. I had enough free time and I could see a lot. I often was on the way with Christian. I will miss Frans Yoga! Thanks for everything.❤️

thanks again for your lovely feedback and the great time we had together on the farm! We really enjoyed the three and a half weeks with you. You fit into our daily life super fast – reliable, easy-going and always in a good mood. You handled the animals and the kids with so much care, and it was fun to see how much you enjoyed being outside. Whether it was walking the dogs, taking care of the horses or helping with the chickens and ducks – you just did it naturally. Also all the small everyday tasks you took over really helped us a lot. We also loved that you jumped into the workshops so openly and even shared your own ideas. And doing all that while still working on your master thesis… really impressive! Living together was really easy with you: considerate, independent and always respectful of our family chaos (in the best sense!). The boys liked you a lot – and so did we. We’re very happy we got to meet you, and you’re always welcome to come back. Wishing you all the best for whatever comes next!

I have stayed for ard two months. April and Artur are amazing. They are so kind and generous. They make me feel like having another home in Australia. The “work” itself is definitely not hard as the kids Lucha and Justice are so loving and easy going. In their house, you can learn so much about gardening, organic farming, travel and culture of different countries (as they have travelled a lot).
