Eloise and me spent two months in Shimoda with this lovely family, and it was by far the best time we’ve had in Japan! Yuuki-san,Yumika-san and Kyle are wonderful people. They were always trying to help us, very friendly, fun, and always available if we needed anything. The work was actually very nice : in the mornings, Eloise helped with cleaning the guesthouse, and I was taking care of Kyle in the afternoon. Playing with this kid was so nice, he's such a nice energy ! He can understand english and the comunication was always very nice. We went fishing together, playing at the beach, or collecting kaki. Our accomodation was a shared house in Shimoda, not too far from the hostel and very convenient. We lived with one other staff who truly became a friend ! Seb, if you read this, cheers man ! We highly recommend this place to everyone! Shimoda is a hidden gem of Japan. We went swimming everyday and see incredible fishes we never saw before. The beaches are the best and you can also experience surfing or snorkelling. The people in Shimoda are so nice, foreigners-friendly. The place is also convenient if you like to got to Tokyo. Also Yuuki is a very strong boxing teacher, he's called the Japanese Mayweather ! Thank you so much for this opportunity to stay with you guys.

It´s kind of difficult to write about Mi. She has been with us "only" for 3 months but she gave so much to all of us! From day one, to the last day, every single day, full of joy and energy and ideas. Always ready to help, no matter if it was to clean a toilet or plan a full weekend for the students. Great to communicate with everyone, and to support the other workaways too. What do we wish ? That she comes back to us. The teachers miss her, the kitchen team misses her, the students miss her.

Eloise and I volunteered in Nozawaonsen for more than a month and we had such a wonderful experience. First of all, we met incredible people. The lovely team made us feel confortable all the time. Thanks to Akira-san, Kei-san and Saki-san. They are very hard workers and devoted to their job. The work mainly consisted of cleaning around the different accommodation ready for the winter season. The working time is pretty flexible, you just have to talk with the team to figure it out. And Nozawaonsen is the place to be if you want to experience the Japanese culture and countryside. Nagano is our favourite area in Japan, and great food is produced here. Everyone we worked with were very nice people. We had a nice room in one of the accomodation, very convenient and confy. Thanks team for all the souvenir and hope to see y'all again ! Leo and Eloise

We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful first experience on Workaway with a lovely family. What originally was supposed to be a few weeks turned to a few months stay and became an impactful learning experience for us. Our hosts Manfred and Melanie were accommodating, kind and thoughtful ! They created a very welcoming atmosphere at the Mill. We had a great time doing a wide variety of tasks. Like cooking, childminding, gardening and the big project of building a sauna house ! Manfred was very thoughtful of what we were interested in doing and the work was mostly self directed. We loved being a part of the community, and sharing. If you are looking for a community feeling and self driven projects this is the workaway for you ! The Mill is a tranquil and beautiful place, we loved our experience here and can’t wait to return some day. Thank you !!

I spent six weeks in the mandarin garden and had a really great time! Sezer and I were more like flatmates and friends, and we shared everything from food to experiences. I had to study on the side and had enough time for that, as well as a desk right under the trees – you couldn't ask for a better place to study. We also went to the market every week, I was taken to weddings, and we went for walks on the beach. Burak and Kadir, who also work in the garden, were always nice and helpful. Everyone made it very easy to settle in and have a very relaxing break from my own life. I would come back anytime, and I definitely will, at least for a visit. Big hugs to you all! Mira

We really enjoyed hosting Annika. We found her open and warm in personal relationships, and disciplined and committed in her approach to tasks. She worked willingly with another Workawayer to help us with several chores that really needed doing and made a visible difference when done. She got on well with the other Workawayer, with whom she shared a room, and enjoyed a trip with her to the Pyrenees. It was good to hear about their experience when they got back. A highly intelligent woman, with a great love of life and a desire to explore new places and experiences, she contributed happily to the household, treating nothing as beneath her. We appreciated her adaptability and enjoyed sharing our lives with her, from early-morning yoga, through lively meal conversations, to games in the evening. We highly recommend her and would be delighted to host her again.

We had the privilege of having Louis and Segolene join our farm and family. They fitted into our routines straight away and really are amazing to have help on your project/home 😍 If you have the chance to host this friendly and hardworking couple TAKE IT ! They are mature, responsible and trustworthy people that we would have back anytime 🙏

Thibault was a very interested, amicable young man from France, coming from a humble background. He was always eager to help and kept his space clean and tidy. He was easygoing with dietary requirements and even offered to cook some French delights himself. Our four‑year‑old adored him, and he was wonderful in the garden as well. We would welcome Thibault back anytime. A truly great Workaway experience.

This was our first Workaway experience, and it taught us so much. Working with the animals is fun, but also (emotionally) challenging and tiring. Most of the animals have disabilities, so you shouldn't be put off by tasks like emptying their bladders and treating wounds. We quickly fell in love with the animals and adopted Ravi to our home in Germany. At the Balapitiya shelter, you have plenty of time between shifts (morning, noon and evening) to enjoy the nearby beach or even take a day off to go on city trips. We met some lovely people and would definitely recommend this experience!

Oh frabjous day, callooh callay, this dynamic duo came to stay (AND play! ;) What host doesn't love couples that are in sync and with the program?! Grace & Carter with their clever wit (and charming NZ accents) were a real treat and we were so glad that we made an exception to squeeze them in, making 6 of us working away and getting scads done, They were both quick studies and what they didn't know, they picked up immediately and threw themselves at it with gusto. Meal times were also quite lively as they got right in the groove with our seasoned crew, and made for some very spicy and diverse conversations. And you didn't have to ask them to pitch in on the communal errands as they were always there to do the dishes and tackle whatever else needed tending. Theses guys were like winning the Workaway lottery, and you'll be fortunate if you can cash in with their delightful presence!

It was a pleasure to host Rosalynn. She is charming and interesting in conversation and creative and adaptable in her approach to all tasks. She works in a focused, efficient way and delivers good results quickly, which we very much appreciated. She worked well with the other Workawayer, with whom she shared a room. They also enjoyed a three-day adventure together in the Pyrenees, and it was exciting to hear about it when they returned. Overall, we enjoyed sharing meals with her, enjoying music together, and exploring topics ranging from software development to travel experiences and family history. Hosting Rosalynn was worthwhile, and we recommend her as an interesting, creative person with a lot to give. May our paths cross again!

Maike and Daniel were lovely, kind people. They were super motivated, loved getting their hands dirty and were very thorough workers. They were clean and considerate. They clearly love to travel, and made the most of exploring our special area and the local sights.

My experience volunteering at the Ashram was absolutely amazing. The Ashram itself is a very special place, run by an inspiring and fun team. The schedule you follow as a volunteer truly leaves a positive impact on you. Personally, I really enjoyed the yoga an chanting classes, as they are so unique in the Ashram. Regarding the media work, Satyaki and Deepak are going to be your best friends. They are absolutely the best and have become very good friends of mine. They guide you in your tasks, but are also there to support you with anything else. I have much love for the Ashram and the media team and 10/10 would recommend this special place to anyone considering applying.

I spent two weeks and it was truly one of the highlights of my trip. Chris and Aly were really kind and when around alway ready to answer any questions. Son (the volunteer manager) was kind, attentive, and welcoming. He invited us to his home several times to meet his family! My experience was so positive largely thanks to him, thank you so much, Son! 😊 Everyone working on the farm is genuinely kind and caring towards the volunteers. My main tasks were helping with tours and tastings in both French and English (as it was the beginning of high season), as well as assisting with the order at the restaurant. When I arrived, I knew nothing about pepper, but the tours are easy to learn thanks to the help of the volunteers already there 🙂 The working hours are a bit longer than what is mentioned in the listing. Volunteers are at the shop from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, with one day off every five days (you need to ask for it yourself). Depending on the number of volunteers, it may be possible to arrange a morning or afternoon off. The listing could be updated to reflect this. Volunteers stay directly on the farm, usually with 2 to 5 volunteers at the same time. I highly recommend renting a scooter to fully enjoy your days off and the evenings. Without one, you might feel a bit stuck. Overall, this was a truly meaningful experience that really enriched my trip to Cambodia.

Lea's awesome and I am absolutely DEVASTATED to see them go. Sobbing as I write this. They were thoughtful, compassionate, looked out for me, was always willing and helpful (especially when i was too timid to ask). My dog and 30% of my cats loved Lea (the rest kind of just have bad taste to be honest) Lea's a great cleaner, super strong and a good friend if you need one. Lifting weights and lifting spirits with ease, that one. PLEASE COME BACK we need you!🥹

We loved having Nina stay with us! She's a real treasure and a wonderful young woman to have around. Very sweet, easy going, does fantastic work, be it cleaning, transplanting, weeding or anything else we asked her to do, she did it 100% and better. Nina only stayed one week with us, but we're already hoping that she'll be back one day. All the best on your journey Nina, Patricia & Gerard

As our first volunteer in Asia, we spend a really nice time with Kitty and his family. For 2 weeks we help him to renovate his hotel, which was just in front of the temples and next to the night market. He picked us up from the train station, and even our last day he kindly leave us at the bus station. Thanks to the family, we ate the best Thai dishes, everyday was a new experience. We loved it! Thank you so much for this opportunity, we will never forget it.
