Even though I only stayed with Vanessa for just 10 days, I had an amazing experience! They are an amazing family and made me feel right at home, welcoming me into their daily lives from the beginning. The tasks were easy and manageable freely during the day and mainly consisted of housekeeping and gardening. I especially enjoyed our dinners together which were an opportunity to talk about different topics and see the dynamics within such a wonderful and functional family (and enjoy the mouthwatering food). The cherry on top of the experience was the company and affection of Zali, their lovely dog :) I will always remember this experience with great pleasure!

Tener a Stefanie en mi finca fue un gran placer! Es una persona inteligente, dulce ( con un toque de locura) , abierta y trabajadora! Se adapta muy bien a las condiciones de vida, a los trabajos... comunica para asegurarse de hacer bien la cosa, es cuidadosa. Me sentí rápido en confianza con ella y pude dejarla libre de movimiento sin tener que controlar y eso me gustó. Además es compania muy agradable y tranquila. Muy recomendable!!

Tener a Nik en nuestro projecto fue increíble. Desde el primer momento se hizo parte de la familia y se vinculó a las actividades. Es una persona que no espera que le digan lo que hay que hacer pues es muy autónomo y proactivo. Su sonrisa hace la vida comunitaria más bonita y su disposición a ayudar es siempre sincera. Es una persona llena de mucha energía y curiosidad por aprender y por esto creemos que en cualquier proyecto sería de excellente ayuda. Gracias Nik por todo el es en cada cosa que haces, se siente tu corazón siempre presente y esperamos que el resto de tu viaje sea muy placentero. Marvelous time with brendan and izabela..Great company and very good at the internal decorating work that was done..they care about what they are doing. Very happy to recommend them both in what ever jobs they may find as workaway people in the future. Bon voyage..I will miss them.

Marc Antoine est resté une semaine chez nous. Un imprévu tombé du ciel ! On a appris son intérêt à venir juste la veille de son arrivée….il avait besoin de se sortir rapidement d’une galère. Super aide pour nous : on a bien avancé sur des tas de choses en suspens depuis un moment. On a bien apprécié son dynamisme et ses grandes compétences tous azimuts, son esprit d'initiative. Marc Antoine est adorable : agréable, joyeux, avec plein de choses à raconter ! On a élagué, déboisé, il nous a appris l’affutage des chaines de tronçonneuse, on a tiré une ligne pour fibre internet….etc… J’aimerais bien lui apprendre des trucs, …c’est pas facile avec tout ce qu’il connait ! J’y arriverai peut-être la prochaine fois 😊 Tu reviens quand tu veux !

Elaine stayed with us as a volunteer and she was truly wonderful. She helped me a lot with daily tasks and was always proactive and reliable. With our members, she was friendly, warm and very easy to connect with — everyone enjoyed talking with her. She is clean, organized and always has a positive attitude. Elaine quickly became a part of our community, not just a volunteer. Any host would be lucky to have her. I would happily welcome her back anytime.

Lara is a very friendly and kind person. She has done her best to help us with the harvest. We wish the best to her in her trip around Spain.

I spent a week at Chelo .. and I wish I could stay longer!! A very chill and positive vibe and the house is sinked into plants. We cleaned a bit the garden and we chopped some wood for the winter and many other little things, all whilst enjoying each other company very much and sharing stories in front of the fire at night. The beginning of a very long friendship!!!

We stayed here for one month and really didn’t want to leave. The hostel has a very friendly atmosphere and the volunteers and guests get along very well. The work is super chill, you handle check-in and check-outs. So you also get a good balance of work and free time. You can hang around unawatuna, but also go explore nearby coastal towns. We always felt welcomed by everyone working in the hostel, especially Rajiv and Razlan. Thanks 😊

Caro has been a great workawayer, she has been ofering her help and support all the time since she arrived. She is proactive, does not need long explanations to know what needs to be done. She enjoys hiking and never looks tired, she has taken advantage of all the time with us, helping with the harvest and discovering the area. We hope we can see you again in the future !!

It was a lovely first workaway experience to stay with Christina, Ocean, Gaia, Savana, Zuma and Simba in their cozy home in the middle of the forest. I spend almost a month there mostly taking care of the cutest little puppies. It was intense, but there was a perfect ballance between work, rest and time to explore the charming towns around their home. The environment is perfect for slowing down and living consciously and mindfully. I felt very grounded while staying here and it really made me enjoy the small things in life. The view over the sea, the mountains and the occasional deers and other animals you can spot are really a dream, and I loved the conversations I had and the amazing food Christina prepared everyday! I was very nervous about my first workaway experience, but I truly felt so at home here. I quickly found a rithm in the tasks that needed to get done, knew what to expect and felt safe enough to ask Christina questions to make sure I did the best I could in my work. So, if you enjoy a serene environment, while at the same time never experiencing a dull moment, this is the place to be! I will never forget this month and I'm forever grateful for this experience. 🪻

I stayed with Hannah and the kids for 2 weeks and the time went by so fast! I felt so very welcome in her home. Cello and Lucy were a great deal of fun and I learned many cool things from them! The work was fair and the hours weren't long. There was always music coming from somewhere in the house and I got to make new friends in the community as well. I hope to visit again!

I really enjoyed my time in Cama with Charlotte, her two dogs Teo and Eli and so beautiful and loving, it was truly a sad time to say goodbye to them. I gained lots of experience with the horses and was happy to be able to contribute to making their lives more comfortable and loving. The forest where the horse stable is located is very old and mystical, wirh lots of old ruined walls and houses from many many hundreds of years ago. Charlotte is a very generous host, and has a strong energy, the pizza in her Pizzeria is very delicious. And last but not least the mountains surrounding the valley are breathtaking and always a pleasure to look at each day (and climb).

I have nothing but words of gratitude for this family that stole my heart. It was my first experience as a volunteer and their first experience as hosts, and I don’t know if I’ll ever find a place where I feel as comfortable as I did there. From the day I arrived, both Natasha and Kevin, and their two beautiful children, made me feel like part of the family. They welcomed me and invited me to join their plans—from hikes and runs to shopping trips, coffee with friends, market days in Bagnères, afternoons at the playground with their kids, ski days, or simply spending time all together with their pets by the warmth of the wood stove. They offered me accommodation in one of their rental cabins, and without a doubt, it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever lived in! Thank you for this wonderfull experience. It will be hard to find another one as special as the one I was lucky enough to share with you. Thank you Zackarie, Chloe, Natasha, Kevin, Elsie, Margaux and Rasta ♥️

When our previous house and pet sitter had to leave earlier than planned, I reached out to Annika and Marius, and they immediately offered to step in. Although we didn’t get to meet them in person, I felt from the very beginning that our home and loved ones were in good hands. They sent regular updates, asked questions whenever needed, and even came up with thoughtful ideas to improve things. We are very grateful for their spontaneous help and their genuine care for our animals.

I had a wonderful experience at the dog rescue shelter and can recommend it with all of my heart! It was my first workaway, and I was a bit scared to go there on my own, but it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. The place, the dogs, the volunteers and the workers - so kind, warm and welcoming. Big thank you to Laia and Oliver, who so passionately work every single day for the dogs. Laia picked me up on the first day and directly went grocery shopping with me. I got very kindly greeted by the volunteers and got a training on the second day. I was responsible for the big dogs and middle section - and I cannot tell you how fast all the dogs grow on you, with all their quirks and personalities. The work can be physically demanding, especially because it's in the mountains, but you will get used to it very quickly and the work is incredibly rewarding. And the views in the mountains are just incredible! We often went for a sunset walk in the evening after our shift, where we took some dogs on the top of the mountain. Besides that, the atmosphere between the volunteers was really nice. We supported each other during the shifts, played a lot of games, had cultural exchanges, and cooked with or for each other. I hope I can come back one day to this place, and hopefully take one of the dogs. They all deserve a fulfilling life. If you are thinking of volunteering, please do so! I think this place is enchanted! I only spent a bit more than a week here, and from the moment I arrived, I already felt like I was part of this place. John and Aslı are incredibly welcoming—such beautiful souls and wonderful people—and their energy is reflected in their stunning permaculture haven. Each morning, I was waking up so excited to see the stunning sunrise, and the landscape itself was enough to drown you in greenery. This was my first experience working on a farm, and thanks to John, I learned so much. He is truly knowledgeable about permaculture and is always happy to explain anything if you’re curious. Both of them are really interested in herbs and their alternative uses, which is also why you can find different kinds of plants here. As for the work, we accomplished a range of tasks in the garden— weeding, planting, building stone walls, logging, and replacing wood burners for the upcoming cold season. Because of this variety, it’s impossible to feel monotonous, and most importantly, John is always accompanying you. We had a lovely daily rhythm and plenty of free time, so you can also enjoy the natural pool or chill at the yoga shala. Aslı makes dangerously delicious vegan foods, so you can easily get addicted!! Also John’s Thai curry was a perfect touch especially on a cold day!! We always had amazing dinners together with full of laughter and funny stories shared by Aslı and John. I enjoyed our cozy movie nights specifically highlighted by the cuddles from Kısmet. Speaking of Kısmet, there’s also a whole family of feral cats lovingly cared for by Aslı and John. You can get your morning cuddles from them right before starting work. Sometimes we even had a little visitor—the neighbor’s dog—dropping by to check on our work☺️. If there is someone reading this review, don’t overthink, just check this place out I am sure you’ ll find more than you expected. Maria joined us for what was the first Workaway experience for us all. Maria’s communication was exceptional from the start and arrangements for her one month stay were quickly and efficiently made. From the minute we met Maria we knew she would become part of the family. We had a wonderful month sharing the chores and fun of daily life. Our toddlers took an immediate shine to Maria and so it was lovely to see them grow in confidence with her being around. Maria’s Workaway support was adhoc but helped us no-end. From joining us shopping, to helping us with laundry and tidying. It was a frictionless team effort where she just mucked in and helped. We also enjoyed getting to know her, and sharing some fun activities as “a family” like sledging with the toddlers, running with the dogs, hiking in the mountains and sharing dinners. In summary an exceptional experience with an exceptional human who we are now happy to consider a close family friend.

It’s hard to summarize this Workaway in a few words, the temptation is the write screeds of accolades and details of the work we did but I won’t as you can read others reviews on this. There is a single reason why it’s hard to get a volunteer place here, why you need to apply early and to offer up your specific skills combined with a flexible and dedicated work ethic. This Workaway is hugely popular and in demand. It’s one where Workawayers who have been there return again and again - as we will. That reason is the hosts; John and Michaela. They are genuinely good people, a couple who thrive surrounded by Workaway volunteers, who actively ensure their volunteers have fulfilling and challenging projects, who share their love of everything French openly and generously, who take the time to get to know each person individually and who appreciate all the large and small things that volunteers bring. This is a Workaway that stays in volunteers minds and hearts for years. The opportunity to be part of this Chateau family was extraordinary, but the human experience they curated was beyond that and it transcended the typical Workaway experience into a friendship and mutual respect. We have been nomad cycle traveling and Workawaying now for almost 3 years continuously and it is no small statement that I write that this Workaway was a supreme highlight for us. We will be back.

Valentin and Charlotte were a joy to have around. They’re respectful, communicative, easy-going, and fun. Their presence felt like a gift in my daily life thanks to their relaxed morning attitude, their respectful help with daily tasks and cooking, and of course the happy presence of their doggo. Their help was also a big gift for me and my chicks. They built a little wooden house so the chicks could spend the winter safe and warm. I loved that they took initiative and didn’t need guidance — unless I wanted to step in. Even the “difficult” tasks, like going to the local factory to ask for pallets for the coop, were handled with total ease and good humor. Overall, I’m left with sweet memories, a more relaxed worldview, and a coop.
