Claudia and Jag were the ultimate hosts and my experience could not have been better. From the initial Zoom meeting to our goodbyes I felt welcome, valued and thoroughly enjoyed their company. All of this is further enhanced by the absolutely stunning place where they live. I was awoken by the sun lightning up the Pyrenees which was immediately followed by delicious coffee and an easy launch into the day wandering the grounds with their sweet dog. Claudia worked with me to find the tasks that best suited to my skills and their needs and it felt like a true partnership. I helped with some small jobs around the Chateau, including Christmas tree assembly where Jag’s enthusiasm for the Holidays was infections. Primarily, I worked with Claudia on some branding and marketing of her business. They were gracious in accommodating my exploration of the area and I feel lucky to have had this time. I hope to stay in touch and that our paths will cross again. Thank you!!

Emmie is a wonderful and very respectful person, and truly one of the best people we have ever met in our lives. She is kind, positive, and always willing to help with anything without hesitation. It was a great honor to have her with us as part of our big family. She taught English to the students at the center successfully and quickly became loved and appreciated by both the students and the center’s staff. We sincerely hope she will come back to us one day, as she is no longer just a volunteer but has become part of our family. I strongly recommend hosting her , you will never regret it. On the contrary, you will have the chance to meet an incredibly wonderful human being.

Host Ralf, and his two cats Idylle and Leolo were just lovely. Originally we were going to stay there for two months, but ended up staying for almost five - we think that says it all. The work was very diverse and we got to use many of our skills, from gardening and supporting the resident artists, to website maintenance, social media management and even small repairs on the property. What made it truly enjoyable, was that Ralf was really appreciative for the work we did. We also got to help organize events and even participated in an artistic project. The accommodation was excellent: we had our own, separate room with bathroom. We met lots of people during our stay, from locals to international artists, and even several of the many caminantes that stayed there - the town is situated on the famous French pilgrim's trail to Santiago de Compostela which offers rooms for hikers. The local community and the many visitors welcomed us like family, so our goodbye was bittersweet. We had a great time there, but left a lot of wonderful people behind. If and when we can, we will certainly go back, if not to work, then at least to visit Ralf, his two cats and the many people we now consider friends.

My friend and I arrived the night before the olive harvest and spent the next 2 weeks on the farm. The work was hard, but we learned a lot and we got to see how the olives were processed into oil. After that, we did smaller odd jobs around the farm such as painting, weeding, moving lumber, and burning the large brush pile. Lulu and Raldo were always nearby to play with, and Joy never forgot to send us on tea and lunch breaks. Kiwi cabin was very comfortable, goofy fireplace and all, and the bathroom had a great shower. The kitchen was pretty chilly this time of year but well-stocked. We had some excellent shared meals together, and movie and game nights were full of laughter and stories from home. The other volunteers were awesome; we all had lots of fun going on hikes, trying new foods, doing puzzles, and we even had a karaoke night. Heiko and Joy’s generosity, warmth, and dedication is inspiring and I cannot express how lucky I feel to have been welcomed into their home. They are so easy to get along with and I never felt hesitant to reach out with any questions or concerns as they were always right there with an answer or solution. I miss you guys! Please give Lulu, Raldo, Skazi, and Fang a kiss or scratch behind the ears for me. I wish only the best for you all and sincerely hope to meet again some day.

I spent 2 weeks at Max's place. I really loved the off-grid place that's in the forest and sleeping in the wooden cabin. I also appreciated the work and taking care of the animals. At the beginning I was struggling with the food since the menu's were decided in advance. But after a chat with Max he was really open to adapt. I really appreciated that. Max has a lot of knowledge on permaculture and is happy to share it. I advice you to read really well the description and the message he is sending before going there. I might go back in spring or summer to see how it looks like in higher season.

Hello Mo, I miss you. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done. I will always remember your kindness and the beauty of your heart. Thank you for helping my school during the time I truly needed support. You respected every rule in the house, took great care of everything, and you loved my cat as if she were your own. You taught with all your heart, and your skills and dedication meant so much to us. I’m truly grateful to have had you here.

Walter!! Estoy deseando volver :) Gracias Walter, Bruja y tenoch!

It was a wonderful experience. I spent two weeks there from November 16 to 30 with another teammate. It was my first workaway, and I am delighted to have spent it in such good company. Mori-san clearly explained the tasks to be accomplished on the day itself or the day before. It was three hours of work suited to our office worker arms, as I had no previous experience on a farm. The evening meals were convivial and delicious. On weekends, Mori-san and Makiko-san took us with them to explore the surrounding area or enjoy activities. The house is quite far from the city (5 km on foot or by infrequent bus), which can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. For me, being cut off from the city with my book in the company of their adorable dogs suited me just fine! Thank you again for your hospitality. Take care !

Twan and Romy were lovely people to have around. While Romy worked on her own remote job most days, Twan was the one who mainly worked with us on projects around the finca. He has quite some experience on DYI construction projects of different kinds, especially working with wood. With his help we were able to finish several things that had been on our To-Do-List for months, including: Building a wooden carport with rainwater collection and some beautiful doors for some outdoor storage, finishing our wooden deck, replacing the roof on a porch, and several smaller repair and maintenance tasks. He worked both independently and alongside us, taught us some new techniques and contributed helpful ideas to each project. In addition, Romy and Twan both helped us harvest our olives and almonds and took care of our cats, dogs and chickens when we went away for a couple of days. We are extremely happy with the quality of the work as well as their positive attitude and motivation. We wish them all the best and would welcome them back to our finca any time!

Yovanna, thank you a lot for this beautiful experience !! I stayed there for 2 weeks. In this time, we shared very interesting and open conversations. The place is so peaceful and calm, wich also involves to be selfefficient. It is surrendered by a lot of cute animals We also had the chance to go with the family to the town (for the day of the elections), and to the lecheria, learning to milking the cows aha. About the work, we had to work 5 hours, 5/7days. We managed our time as we wanted and the tasks changed depending on the needs (cutting trees and making mud to build the roof for example) We are all learning together how to construct, so feel free to bring propositions to improve the work ! Wish you all the best for your project xx

We stayed with Gayle, Allan and their family for three weeks — our very first Workaway experience in Ireland — and honestly, we couldn’t have chosen better hosts for our beginning here. They patiently helped us with our English and welcomed us as if we were part of their own family. At first, it felt a bit strange for us to use their house supplies and facilities (bathroom and kitchen), because even though they offered us a warm and fully equipped caravan with its own kitchen and bathroom, they insisted that we use the facilities in the house as well. They were always checking if we were okay, if there was anything we needed from the shop, or anything else we might want. Regarding the work, they were always clear about what they wanted done — which was important for us, as we never had to keep asking what to do. We helped them with cleaning and organizing the polytunnel, building a dividing wall. We also helped set up a temporary structure and a house for the chickens, and with cleaning the stream. They always made sure we were enjoying what we were doing, and they were totally flexible with schedules and workdays, insisting that we make the most of the sunny days to explore the region. They even lent us two bicycles so we could get around, which helped us a lot. The place where they live is breathtaking — surrounded by mountains and landscapes straight out of a movie. We will always be grateful for how they opened their home to us, treated us like family, and took such good care of us. Thank you, Gayle, Allan, Laila and Floyd (and of course Pepper — the furry family member who always greets you with joy and the sweetest facial expressions!) for welcoming us and including us in your daily life and family routine. We truly hope to see you again soon! 🤍

I'm really grateful to have met Tran and her family, and to have had this wholesome experience. I only stayed for two weeks, but I could have stayed much longer. I had plenty of time to explore Hanoi, and I even managed to squeeze in a weekend trip:) But most importantly I loved spending time with them and helping Tran with the baby too. Thank you so much!

It was a pleasure to host our beautiful Lou she is so kind and well mannered and fitted into our family from day one. Lou is and willing to help with anything she was such a great help in the garden spreading mulch, hedging weeding and keeping the garden looking amazing. Lou’s very capable with power tools she built me an above ground vegetable garden . Lou never had to be asked to assist with preparing meals and cleaning when she saw something needed doing she just jumped in and did it and was she was an amazing help to us. It was a pleasure to introduce Lou to our friends she fitted right In and they all commented on what an amazing girl she is. Lou is also very good with animals ,our dog Kobi misses her cuddles and daily brushes. Lou is what we would rate as a 5 star workaway and we would welcome her back anytime and would also highly recommend her to anyone else. We miss you possum.

The stay with Marie and Eran is gonna be left deeply in my heart. To me this was a piece of paradise. A lot of fun. Days weren’t ever the same, because I could pick what I like to do (the land is huuuuge, so it needs a lot of maintenance). Mostly I was restoring cacao trees, collecting pods, pruning, chopping bananas with a machete, preparing them to dry. I was happy to work on my own, improved my skills and learnt a lot of more. They have all sorts of good tools, which makes tasks efficient and pleasant. They’re a big inspiration to me: so vivid, healthy, active, positive, curious beings! There’s nothing what they wouldn’t be able to do, or couldn’t learn. I liked our conversations, and incredible stories from their travels around the world. They’ve seen a lot of it, and yet, still keen to make new connections, and are attentive listeners. I felt, that I was part of the family: everything was shared with me - a space, friends, family members, stories, soap making, delicious food (Marie’s skills are amazing), cookies, coconuts from the town, chocolate.. Yes, chocolate! It’s one of the best you could ever had (and believe me, I’ve visited many cacao farms), they have nice types of trees, and make chocolate from bean to bar (which is also a rare thing to find). I like our degustations, experiments, getting high on cacao. I was very comfortable here, had a lot of my space, could be myself. I know, that not many places I’ll come back ever again, but to this one, I hope, one day I will (maybe even as a potencial neighbour, hehe)

I had such a lovely time here, travelling here as a solo female traveler I felt completely safe and comfortable,Chakara is very easy to communicate with and is someone whom I learnt a lot from about Sri Lanka. The workload is up to you, he'll just explain to you what work needs to be done it's up to you how many days or hours you wanna do of it. Auntie Malani cooks the most amazing meals for you three times a day, I found it so fascinating how she cooks everything as she uses the traditional methods of cooking. The place really is very peaceful as if your almost just in a different world, all the sounds coming from the nature were amazing to fall asleep to, the garden itself is also so incredible with such cool species and of course plants. Chakara has been working on this project for most of his life and the whole concept behind it is fascinating. I wish you the best of luck with everything and thank you for having me :)

I stayed with Rita for a couple of days over a long weekend this November and I had a lovely time. I helped with the garden and with house tasks. Rita made sure I had a pleasant time, we had really good conversations and I had an own room bathroom by myself. She is a sweet, clean and organized person. Would recommend it!

I didn’t really know what to expect from my first Workaway experience, but staying with Till turned out to be a very positive surprise. He has an open and welcoming personality that made me feel at home right away. I loved having the freedom to try new things and learn along the way. His house and garden, with the direct sea view, truly feel like a little piece of paradise. I can definitely imagine coming back — I’m already looking forward to my next stay. Thanks Till for beautiful 18 days with you, hope to see you again soon!

I had a lovely time volunteering at LifeWithHorses during my six-week stay. Kat, Matt, Jim and Karyn were incredibly kind and welcoming, and I quickly felt at home. They were always happy to help with shopping, lifts or showing me around the area. The farm is a wonderful place, and the animals are very well cared for. Accommodation Simple but with everything you need. As it is located in a stable, you should be prepared for a few bugs, spiders and cockroaches. Work The work mostly involved picking up horse poo and feeding the horses, plus helping at some fun events. The 5 hours a day / 5 days a week description didn’t always match my experience. Most days I worked around 6.5 to 7.5 hours. However, I always had two days off, and Kat was very kind in letting me swap days when there was something happening in the city that I wanted to see. Horse Experience & Animals All the animals are incredibly sweet – especially Tux, the barn cat! During my stay I handled horses in daily situations such as brushing them, getting them ready for lessons and taking them for walks in the arena. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed that I couldn’t be more involved. I would have loved to gain more insight into Kat’s training methods, especially since I have horse experience and was eager to learn. Food I received a $20 Aldi voucher per week to buy fresh groceries. Some basic foods like pasta, rice, eggs, … were already provided. However, for a more varied diet, the voucher was a bit limited. I fully understand that this is a volunteering position, but a slightly higher allowance would have been helpful. Overall I’m glad this was my first Workaway experience and can definitely recommend it. It’s a beautiful place, and I met many wonderful people. Thank you, Kat, for letting me be part of your farm. 💚

It was our first Workaway experience and it was totally amazing! I think we couldn’t have chosen better. Therese is a beautiful person, very open, caring and kind. She really tries to protect the environment and she has a lot of knowledge about it. I think we need more people like her. This Workaway gave us a lot to rethink about life and how we can protect our planet, and that’s really true. The dogs are awesome, we love them. Chipsy is crazy about sticks, so if you throw one for her once, you will never stop. We’re sending lots of positive energy and we miss you so much!!!
