Annabelle is a lovely person who loves to communicate with everyone! She is super open minded and interested in different lives stories, therefore she created a wonderful welcoming atmosphere in our hostel without even noticing it. She brought people together for different activities and everybody loved her. We also loved to have her around as she was super responsable with her reception tasks and also very proactive. As soon as she saw an opportunity for improvement she didn't hesitate to communicate it or just do it. We can recommend her by heart, you're not going to regret it!

Last month I spent two wonderful weeks with Marina and her husband Juan in this small village in Slovenia, and it was really great! From the moment I arrived, they made me feel genuinely welcome and part of the household. The communication with them was clear and easygoing, which helped me settle in right away. During my stay, I worked on a variety of tasks—both physical and creative—and I always felt trusted and appreciated. Whether it was helping with building projects, general maintenance, or anything else that came up, Marina and Juan gave me the freedom to work independently while always being available when needed. Also, I had quite a lot of free time and, being their apartment located in a valley, there were quite a lot of opportunities to go on a ride to the surrounding towns or even to the lake Triglav, all while surrounded by the beauty of the snowed Alps. The accommodation and living conditions were excellent, and I never lacked anything. The times we were together in the apartment we shared good conversations and cultural exchange, and I truly appreciated how open-minded, kind, and respectful they both are. Marina and Juan are generous hosts who genuinely care about the well-being of their volunteers. I am deeply grateful for the experience and the moments we shared. I absolutely recommend them to any Workawayer looking for an enriching, yet peaceful stay. Thank you again, Marina and Juan. Lep pozdrav!

I've stayed at over 100 hostels, and this is definitely one of my favourites, as well as Ghent being a great city to explore. The hostel has a very unique layout and atmosphere, and the owners aswell as the staff are lovely. :) The hostel is also a place where they host things for the community such as a small area where farmers sell their vegetables every week, a weekly concert, various community gatherings, and a few days per week the bar is open to the public. They also help the community in other ways, such as providing free accomodation for homeless and people in need. The work depends on how many Workawayers are there, but generally it's some combination of emptying the bins, cleaning the kitchen and breakfast area, refilling the drink fridge, helping out with breakfast, looking after the phone during the night incase there's a late check-in or something, and every week the floors need to be mopped. There are also some occasional extra tasks such as painting, steaming the caravans, and making the occasional shared meal for other workawayers, but it's generally very chill with about 1-3h/work per day. In exchange we got 1 free alcoholic drink/day, unlimited (within reason) soft drinks, breakfast and free leftover food. I'm living in Belgium for a year, so I'll definitely come back occasionally to say hi and have a drink. :)

Jada is a lovely person with a big heart, a big smile and a good aura around her. She was always ready to help and created a nice atmosphere in our hostel. We loved having her around and were surprised by her artistic talent. She painted wonderful Christmas themes for us out of the blue! :)

Gracias.

Brian was both very helpful and a very nice cheerful man. He worked with me and unsupervised, took instructions well and was clean and tidy and easy to be around, he was also independent and happy to be on his own and was fun when he came out with us socially a few times. I would definitely have him again. He has no particular skills but has loads of enthusiasm and as I said earlier can take instructions. I worked alongside him. Thanks again Brian

Vielen Dank, liebe Sophia!

I was very fortunate to be able to stay at Padma's place for a week when she had to be away for a couple of days. Kokoro and the kitties (especially Mini, Pasha, Rubacuori and Muezze) were wonderful company during my stay, and even tho I was alone for a few days, it sure didn't feel that way! Everyday I wake up to the peace and tranquillity of the mountains, with a breathtaking view of Etna right from the house. My daily routine included walking Kokoro twice a day, and together we explored all the surrounding areas. Kokoro loves going on walks and makes a great buddy to explore the place with! Other than feeding Kokoro and the kitties, I did some light cleaning, baked bread and tried my hand at making olive schiacciate. When Padma was back, we also made a quince jam and share meals together. Thank you so much for the time at your place Padma, it is a memory I will always treasure!

My time at the school in Karakol is one of the experiences that has truly helped me grow both personally and professionally. From the very beginning, I was warmly welcomed and quickly felt how much trust was placed in me. This openness allowed me to get involved right away, contribute my own ideas and shape the lessons in my own personal way. What shaped me most was the daily interaction with the students, and I was especially impressed by how diverse the learning groups are. There are children, teenagers and adults of different ages and with very different levels of English. At the same time, colleagues, students and host families are incredibly warm, considerate and open. They show great interest in other cultures and genuinely enjoy connecting with others. For volunteers who do not speak Russian or Kyrgyz, it can be quite challenging to teach small children or students who are only just beginning to learn English. Outside of school, I was able to experience countless special moments. Various trips with other volunteers, my host family, colleagues and even with students allowed me to get to know life in Karakol in a very personal and authentic way. All of these people grew incredibly close to my heart, so much so that I truly miss the time we shared and definitely want to return. A heartfelt thank you to the entire school team for the support and inspiration you give to volunteers. A special thank you goes to Kunduz for this wonderful opportunity.

Michael was absolutely amazing .A real lifesaver. He came to me in november and helped me install the stove, finishing our tiny house and cutting firewood etc just before the cold came. I am super grateful for his support. He is very professional, delivering qualitywood work with qualitytools,.It was a pleasure to work with him. He is completely selfsufficient in his van and would keep to himself in the evenings which was good for me when dealing with my 2 teens, though he is good company too. I still feelI I owe him, he as always welcome to just park up to enjoy the land and the area. Highly recommend him !

Spent a beautiful week and a half with Diana, Thomas, and their children. It's a warm, familial environment and they really know how to make you feel at home. They're open-minded, multicultural, and interesting people. They're very patient and happy to explain new vocabulary and expressions, even the kids! So it's a great place to be if you're looking to improve your French (or Spanish), but they're also proficient in English. The work is very calm, I visited during the colder months and it was mostly organizing around the house and sometimes keeping the kids a little busy. The town is a bus away from Nantes and there's some nature around for day trips. Diana and Thomas were kind enough to show me around the area, and I'm sure it's even nicer in Spring or Summer. Recommend!

Grazie per tutti Milo ! I enjoyed so much staying at this place, you will discover the life in the countryside with many activities to do : plant oignon, reburfish the trullo, make jam, take care of the chickens and cats. At the beginning you need a bit of time to understand Milo's habits. He also attaches great importance to respect the timing : timing for the breakfast (not allow 5min more in bed!), but also timing for stopping work (which is nice to also have free time in the afternoon and he gives you 2 days off). Going at Milo's place is not for everyone, specially the one who don't want to work that much (5h per day) to help him and can't deal with his habits. I loved it so much, learn new things about compost, gardening and even construction work. Milo is lovely and we had great time together !

These guys are everything you could want in a workaway. Helpful, polite, self motivated and interested in our lives and what we do. Always keen to give everything a go. I had to travel a bit for work over their stay, leaving them with husband and farm staff confidently knowing they would all be fine. Wishing them all the best on their travels. I hope our paths cross again sometime.

We spent one month at Hugh and Jane’s place, and it was honestly the best experience we could have imagined. From olive picking with ABBA to dealing with the brambles (and we won’t say too much about those…), every day was memorable. Hugh and Jane are a lovely couple with an incredible sense of humour and just the right amount of naughty jokes ; you simply can’t help but love them. If you’re wondering whether or not you should go here, stop thinking and just go. A special thank you as well to Kiwi, leader of the A-Team and the eldest Workawayer, for making this experience truly unforgettable. We had a wonderful time learning about everything: from olive oil production to wine tasting, and even some everyday life wisdom. An unforgettable experience. Highly, highly recommended.

It was a pleasure to welcome Adriana into our home. She is open, discreet, but truly present. She was also a real support to us because she really gave her all in her work and was very accommodating in terms of the type of work she did. I recommend welcoming Adriana if you want to meet a wonderful person!

Sarah, Vlad, and their family are wonderful people very welcoming and helpful, and they make you feel at home from the very first moment. Their property is beautiful, and the hikes near their home lead to extraordinary landscapes immersed in nature. I hope I’ll have the chance to return ❤️
