Lucie is very easy going. She is always active and ready to help for any work. She helped with repairs on our biogas-installation, to cook, to harvest our peas and much more. We had a lot of nice discussions. Thank you for those 8 days. We will miss you. And we hope you will visit again. Merci beaucoup pour tout Lucie PS : Mon papa a vraiment apprécié ta présence.

Guram is very friendly, easygoing, handy young man. He helped me in the farm and I enjoyed spending time with him so much. Our living conditions are very low but he adapted very well. He was afraid of horses but managed everything .

Hiring Kira was one of the best decisions i have made as the manager of this hostel. I obviously was a little tentative hiring someone slightly younger, but i should state first of all, that Kira is wise and mature far beyond her years! In her time here she grew to be the person i could rely on most of all with some of the most complicated and responsible tasks. I could trust her to take care of things that i wouldn't ask of people 10+ years older than her, and she was a leader of a team of which she was the youngest member. She is an incredibly hard worker who can turn her handle to ANYTHING! We would often joke that there is nothing Kira can't do. She is perfect for admin (book keeping, computer software, note taking), cooking (learning and challenging herself as she went, going from strength to strength), artwork (producing some of my favourite pieces here at the hostel, both my own requests and her ideas), creating an atmosphere (leading and perfecting our quiz nights, taking guests out into the city, or even just helping those less social around her join in with the group) and breaking her back to work to make the hostel the best it can be (working while sick and off shift despite me trying to stop her!) I would recommend this amazing woman to anyone looking to hire her, she started as a great hire, became my number one person i relied on, and left as my friend. We miss her everyday and hope she will one day return!

Max & Janine were amazing workaway guest! It you have the opportunity to host them I highly recommend. They helped us with a range of tasks. Janine loves organizing and was so helpful in sorting out our house especially my 4 year olds toys and play area. Both helped with gardening, painting interior and exterior of our house, and other odd jobs. They had excellent communication, good sense of humour, easy going, and asked questions when they weren't sure and were always keen to learn new things. They were really great with our daughter Harriet, she adored them. They were also considerate, respectful and happy to cook meals. We will miss them a lot and hope that they come back and visit before leaving Australia!

I had three amazing month here. It was my first off-grid and permacutlure expirience and I really loved it. I learned a lot about gardening, the permaculture- concept and ecobuilds. But the working and learning aspekt is just one thing. I met so many wonderful people there and the whole idea of living and contributing to a community was just a great expirience. I will always have awsome memories about that time. Amys food, the days at the beach, the concerts/partys we went together, the jam sessions. There was no differnece in freetimeactivities or working projects. Everything was planed and done with dedication, passion and love. And every member of the community was able to contribute there own ideas to the several projects. I just loved it and can highly recommend everyone to spend some time at this wonderful place. I hope I will find the time to come back someday...

Thank you so much for this lovely review. I’m really glad your three weeks here felt meaningful and peaceful — our little village is quiet, but it has a way of slowing people down in a good way. You both brought great energy to the workshop, and I’m happy you enjoyed the welding, the projects, and the community here. Zaki will be very happy to hear your compliments, and Afik will smile for the whole day — he’s really growing into his role. I know you’ll be just as amazing with your next hosts too. Any Workaway place would be lucky to have you. You’re always welcome back in Wawasan. Safe travels and all the best on your journey!

My time at the ashram was a very special and meaningful experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed, grounded, and supported. I had the chance to meet many incredible, like-minded people, and the conversations I shared with the community were truly transformative. The daily routine — yoga classes, satsangs, meditation, and healthy meals — creates a balanced structure that naturally helps you become healthier and more grounded. Following this schedule helped me feel more connected to myself. I’m deeply grateful for my time with the media team. They were understanding, welcoming, supportive, and made it all easy for me to contribute. Overall, this experience touched me in ways I didn’t expect, and I am truly grateful, especially to the media team, for receiving me so warmly and for everything I learned during my time with them.

Thank you so much for this lovely message. It really means a lot. You blended into our little community so naturally, and after surviving that jellyfish sting, you’re officially pirate status forever! I’m glad you enjoyed the food, the weddings, the fishing trips — and I know you’ll be just as amazing with your next hosts. They’ll be lucky to have your energy and kindness. You’ll always have a home here in Batu Pahat. Come back anytime.

I stayed with the family for two months and felt welcomed and included as soon as arrived. Fabrice and Amadine are very generous and friendly people that teached me a lot about life on-board and hearing about their life stories it was very inspiring for me. Their 3 children are very sweet and kind kids, interested about the world, easy going, intelligent and funny! I'm very grateful for this first experience on a boat, I felt part of the family and hope to be back again. Thank you to you all for your kindness, wonderful dinners full of laughs, lessons about sailing and life on-board.

I had a very good time with Yvonne. The house, the garden, and the surroundings are all beautiful. Yvonne was very flexible with the working hours and tasks, which made the experience very enjoyable. It was also very nice and interesting to get a glimpse of life in rural Portugal. Great experience!

I stayed here for four wonderful weeks and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The hostel is beautiful, with a rly beautiful garden, pool and a cozy bar where you can really feel the local vibe. The owner and Hana are incredibly kind, relaxed and very easy to work with — always flexible and always there if you need anything. They also provide some food, like eggs, vegetables and other essentials. The work itself was simple and enjoyable, and I also got the chance to meet a lot of locals who regularly hang out at the hostel. Because of that I really felt connected to the place and the community. The other volunteers were also amazing, super friendly and fun to be around, which made the whole stay even better. Overall, I had an amazing time here and I truly recommend this place to anyone looking for a warm, genuine and enjoyable Workaway experience.

Siri is a wonderful person, lovely and sweet. She knows how to get her hands dirty with all types of tasks, and when asked to help she always do it with a great attitude. A thriving farm born out of the barren desert where horses, animals, nature, and humans can heal. I would describe Belal's style of horsemanship as a blend of natural horsemanship and liberty - something that is unique and special not just in Egypt, but in the world. It was an incredible experience to spend time with Arabian horses (including stallions), a humbling experience that gave me much deeper insight, respect, and empathy into a horse's mind. The farm was created by community and if you have the opportunity to spend time there, I highly recommend it. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the space in whichever way speaks to you. The ethos reminds me of early Couchsurfing / Workaway days. Special thanks to Nour and Mohamed who made my month at the farm truly memorable. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

I thoroughly enjoyed the nine days that I spent with Michiko and her family. Michiko, Jensen and Sarasa (their six year old daughter) were so helpful, knowledgeable and energetic. We (2 other volunteers and I) were initially accepted during this period to help out with a kids camp but unfortunately it was cancelled due to the typhoon. Still, Michiko planned many different activities for us. Each day was filled with unique experiences from farming to packing goods to interacting with the children. In the first few days, we helped out with some upkeep of the farm area. We helped to start a small garden vegetable patch by weeding and sowing the seeds. After that, we also helped with digging the water channels for a small plot of rice paddy field. This work was tougher but it was manageable with the other volunteers. Michiko also did not rush us to finish the work and reminded us to take plenty of breaks. These two areas are only but a small part of Michiko and Jensen’s farm and work. Michiko and Jensen have a wealth of knowledge on how we can grow our foods sustainably and are collaborating with different partners towards their dream of keeping the natural resources in the area clean so future generations will still be able to enjoy these resources. It’s inspiring to hear about their journey and also see first hand the hard work that they have put in towards this goal. Apart from planting rice, the family also makes a lot of other products from the raw ingredients. Michiko is a fermentation master who is able to make so many delicious products (wine vinegar etc) from the rice that they grow or other fruits and vegetables that are found in the area. Aside from farming, I also learnt a lot about the donguri inspired education and even got to help out in a short workshop. I enjoyed the thoughtful conversions on early childhood education and it has been eye opening to learn about an education approach that really puts the child first and emphasises on building the child’s creative and problem solving capacities. We also had the chance to enjoy the nature of the local area as well as the ambience of the small towns in the area. On some afternoons, after the morning work at the farm, we had a chance to relax in the cooling waters of the nearby waterfalls. On some days, when Michiko had to run errands in town, we could also tag along with them to visit the morning and night markets. Thank you to Michiko and her family for having me! The things I’ve learned in these short nine days have been deeply enriching, and I’m sure they will continue to shape me for years to come. I wish you and your family nothing but the very best as you continue to grow your vision. I hope to return one day and continue supporting you on your journey.

This was our first Workaway experience, we stayed with Connie for 3 weeks at the Balapitiya location and we quickly fell in love with the animals. It was clear to see how much Conny loved and cared for the animals. During a our stay we fed and cared for the injured cats and dogs and did lots of dog walks! Connie made sure we had some days of to explore the beautiful island, and had the use of a moped. We highly recommend this Workaway!

Spend 2 weeks at Sandra's shelter, was a beautiful experience, whether at work or with others volunteers. Organisation is not easy everyday, there is a lot of things to know, if you have the willing to understand how is work, give helps to the others and taking care of animals, the experience will be rewarding. Thank you Sandra about the committment you have.
