Description
My name is Lory, and I live in a charming country house with three dogs, some goats, and a lot of wild asparagus. My home is in Narni, which is 70 km from Rome, 12km from Terni, and 50 km from the medieval town of Viterbo, where I run and teach at The New England School.
In my life I have been an international interpreter, world traveler, and teacher. I've lived in Canada, the United States, the UK, France, Sri Lanka, India, and I landed here in Italy. I live an organic lifestyle both on and off my property. Here at my home we grow tomatoes, asparagus, fruit, and olives, as well as produce our own jams and olive oil. I am a wine sommelier, too, and I love the how the Italian lifestyle revolves around it's food, art, language, and history.
My hobbies are cooking, traveling, ice skating, horseback riding, painting, and photography--living in the countryside my pastimes have evolved to include gardening, nutrition, and constant appreciation of the simple, countryside way of life.
My partner Maurizio is a respectful, caring, Italian man who helps maintain our lifestyle on the property. He is a local landscape architect here in Narni. He loves good food, good wine, and football--he is an authentic Italian man. Him and I compliment each other in the sense that he is a born and bred Italian from the small village where we live while I spent my life globe trotting--but we love to run and walk together, as well as work in our gardens and take care of our home.
My nieces and nephews frequently visit; even though Maurizio and I don't have children our home is open to our family and friends.Types of help and learning opportunities

I speak and teach both Italian and English, so a language exchange is completely possible. Cooking is a passion of mine and I will teach you how to make traditional Italian dishes, as well as whatever you would like to learn around the kitchen.
Besides language and food, helping me around my house will give you the chance to see an authentic Italian country lifestyle with the convenience of being close to Rome and Viterbo. My deep appreciation of Italian lifestyle will be shared with you completely--we end each day with a healthy Italian meal and good wine, as well as a hand-made dolce, and usually start our days with fruit from the trees around the property.Projects involving children

Help
My country home requires day to day chores like watering, cleaning, brushing the dogs, taking out the trash, and my job keeps me busy so I'm looking for someone who can also help with general chores like dishes, laundry, and other housekeeping things.
Depending on the season we also need people to pick fruit and olives. In the fall we have about 2000 organic olive trees we need help harvesting so we can produce our own oil.
We are also working on remodeling another house on our property, so depending on when you come you might be doing some light construction--painting, cleaning, or building. In the next year I hope to turn my house into a country home resort; until then come help me with my day to day projects and I'll share my culture with you anyway.Languages spoken

Volunteers will have a private room on the main floor of the house. We sleep upstairs in the main house, but you will have a bedroom and a bathroom for just your use.
Our home is a beautiful house on 1 hectare of Italian countryside. We have a washing machine for your use, as well as fast wifi, TV in the bedroom, and sunny terrace. There's an organic vegetable garden, an aloe garden, and flowers.
Narni is the quintessential Italian village located on an ancient hillside at the banks of a river. C.S. Lewis named his fabled "Narnia" after our small village and it's magic. What else ...
Getting to my home requires me to pick you up at a train station, and from here you can leave with me on my daily ventures to Viterbo, Rome, and Narni to explore.
