    Description

Ola and welcome to our volunteer page!

Only for the real-roots nature loving souls !!!

…Being comfortable and enjoying to live WITH NATURE in basic conditions.

You will help out for around 3 hours in the morning with different daily farm jobs and projects of your own choice. We usually don’t provide the food/ cook the meals but you can pick some vegetables from the garden and get fresh goats milk and eggs when available

We are Clara and Rohan, the grateful owners of this 5 hectare Organic Offgrid farm in the beautiful mountains of the Serra da Estrela, the biggest natural park in Portugal!
We love living, working & creating together with nature in a self-sufficient positive way. We grow our own veggies, make goats cheese, sometimes brew some beer and other creations, bake bread, grow medicinal herbs and make natural cosmetics like olive soap, natural deodorant and perfume , medicinal creams and oils... lots more!

We live together on our Quinta ( Farm in Portugese ) with our small heard of cheeky goats, chickens, 2 dogs, Findus the cat, around 20 honey bee colonies and would love to also get a donkey and some ducks in the near future.
All the animals are part of and contribute to the dynamic system on our farm. Our farming methods are inspired by living in nature, time & experience and by Organic, Bio-Dynamic and Permaculture principles. We believe in working and creating together with nature, building up the soil in our gardens so we can grow healthy crops to feed ourselfs, and our animals.

We are located in a green vally that's REMOTE. Surrounded by only nature, the mountains, old chestnut, oak and willow trees and clear mountain streams. We have a very nice community of friends living around us in the surrounding valleys who share, each in there own way, a similar life style and we sometimes work and celebrate life togther.

in the past our Quinta was abandoned for a long time as the local people slowly moved away to the cities and villages. step by step we are bringing life back to the fram. re-opening the old traditional irrigation systems of water channels. Planting lots of fruit trees and bushes. Cultivating crops on the old terraces. We also build a polytunnel as a nursery and to extend our growing season, a small stable for the goats and we created a nice volunteers area. On the land is a old ruine that was build with natural granite stone which we are renovating with ecological building materials. There also is a small but cozy wooden house/ workshop on the land in which we live at the moment and a outside kitchen made with round wood and green roof.

Meanwhile we are also creating a small educative center on our farm. Here we organize courses and workshop weeks on natural and self-sufficient living.
