    Description

We are an artist’s creative hub with live in residencies based on a 20 acre small holding in West Cork. We are a private homestead and are currently only producing food for our own consumption. We are still in our infancy and building a project that will hopefully help a lot of people in the years to come. We are in the early stages of implementing a permaculture design on the land and would also be interested in looking into Biodynamic agriculture, so if you have experience in either of these then that would be great. There is one person living fulltime at the house, with artists coming and going over the summer season. We also have two cats and three chickens.

Work on the farm to date has been planting of native Irish forests, experimenting with planting of flowers for harvest (chamomile, calendula and hemp), establishing an orchard, setting some food growing plots, habitat creation and a lot of infrastructural work.

The property contains a river and lakes, as well as wild and rewilded areas. We have also built some natural earthen structures to sit in and zone out from the world outside. There are many nice walks in the local area and West Cork is full of beautiful scenery, towns, villages and outdoor adventures to keep you busy.

  • Help

    Help

We are looking for one person, a couple or pair of friends to help 4/5 h per day. (2 days off per week). We are happy If you want to stay one week or more.
We need some help with the vegetable garden, tree care, infrastructure work, general farm tasks, construction and diy jobs, establishing gardens, clearing land and maintenance. We are particularly interested in people with some building skills. As we are rebuilding our kitchen, renovating a studio and hemp plastering walls.
Gardening and horticulture skills are highly advantageous, as vegetable plots need to be established and we would love some help with this, as well as the planting and oversight of vegetable plots. Orchard experience is also helpful as our orchard is growing and needs care.
Landscaping and construction skills would also be a plus as we have a lot of projects to complete that would benefit from a skilled hand. There are also plastering and carpentry jobs that require completion.
Much of the daily tasks are outside and can be physically demanding. All tasks will be fully detailed and explained thoroughly in advance and based around caring for the land, crops or working on various projects around the farm.
    Thanks :)

    Accommodation

We have a camper van in our field for accommodation (only for sleep, our house is of course available for the bathroom, kitchen, living room) and we are happy to share meals with you.
You are welcome with your own camper van or tent also.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided and our preference is that we have a couple or pair of friends, with one of the two being able to prepare dinner for one hour of their work time on each of the five working days.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are 10km from the nearest town of Skibbereen and 5km from the nearest village of Drimoleague, both are serviced by regular bus services from Cork city and we can arrange collection and drop off to bus if necessary. We also have bicycles you can borrow to explore the local area, with beaches to visit past skibbereen.

We are looking for honest, physically fit, healthy, non-smoking, strong (ideally!), clean, tidy, and reliable individuals or couples who are not afraid to work, can demonstrate commitment, understand the importance of attention to detail, are self-motivated, enthusiastic and who can make a positive difference to our lives! If it's a holiday you are after then respectfully - this is probably not the best place for you!

Our home is smoke free, so if you do need to smoke, we politely request that you do this outside.
If this interests you, please message me and say: When you can arrive and how long you want to stay? A few things about you?

    Thank you for looking.
