    Description

    Hello!

I live on beautiful Norfolk Island, a sub tropical paradise in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I came over here quite randomly for a short working stint, ended up settling as I fell in love with the charm and beauty here. I'm passionate about the environment and being out in nature, and here there is an abundance. You can snorkel pristine reefs and wander in the national parks or reserves. The island is only 5x8km so nothing is too far but there’s so much to explore at the same time.

I'm into permaculture, growing/sharing food and regenerating forests. There’s a really strong sense of community here and plenty of projects to get involved with. I’m a volunteer in a few conservation groups and I run my own volunteer program propagating natives in the National Parks’ nursery to help revegetate the island.

I’m a co owner of a newly established Beer Garden/Restaurant so most of my time is taken up with that. But it’s a nice place to be, there’s a garden on site and we regularly have live music events.

If you are wanting to come chill out enjoy a slower pace island life, get your hands dirty and make a real difference then this is the place for you. I’m looking for people who want to come over for a short stay, enjoy a holiday, whilst getting involved with the community and making a difference. I don’t really mind if your helping out with my projects or others on the island, I’ve always vowed that I would give back to the Workaway community once I was settled enough to do so. As long as you’re here to have a positive impact. Gardening and knowledge with plants a big plus :)

I live in an idyllic cottage in the forest with a loft bedroom upstairs (your accomodation), there is only 1 bathroom but I really spend very little time at home. I have a car and a scooter, most the time one of them will be there for you to access. Will keep the house stocked with basic food staples and it will be help yourself, I’m rarely home to cook and eat most my meals at work.

If you’re interested in coming over get in touch, would love to hear from you!

    All the best,
    Leah

There is very strong culture here Norfolk has it's own language and many traditional customs. You can get involved with the community. Can teach you about gardening/Permaculture, native flora and fauna. You can live the island life and be immersed in nature everyday.

Preferably want someone who is interested in forest regeneration and could help with my projects around the cottage, or anywhere on the island. I also have a few vegetable gardens that need love. But happy for people to volunteer their time in any other way that benefits the island also.

    What else ...

There is so much to do in your free time nature wise, swimming, snorkelling, surfing, diving, hiking. There's many nice restaurants and cafe's. But there's not the same luxury's as in mailand Australia, things aren't always open, the supermarket shelves are often quite bare, there's not much choice of exotic foods, electrical goods etc are hard to get. No Kmart, Bunnings, Woolworths etc. It is a tiny island surrounded by 1000's of km's of Pacific Ocean. Life here is great, but it's not for everyone.
