    Description

We are an indigenous couple who support our communities by offering cultural teachings and ceremonies. We have been studying and teaching our cultures together for about 5 years. We also facilitate drum and rattle making workshops. We moved from a bigger city of Kelowna to be closer to nature which we feel is more healing for all. We have a sweat lodge on our land and host ceremonies regularly. Our home environment inside and out is very peaceful and sacred to us. We believe we are interconnected with all living things, from the animals, the plants and everything on Mother Earth. We have full internet service available. We do not have any pets and we are non smokers. We are open to hosting one or two work away exchange people, but we cannot accommodate families.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are happy to share our indigenous cultural traditions and ceremonies. We smudge with a sage blend and read indigenous elder teachings daily which we welcome our traveller to join us. We’re willing to teach about the sweat lodge ceremony and how they can assist and participate. We are also pipe carriers and invite our traveller to join us in this sacred ceremony as well. Many countries have indigenous people and we would love to hear what traditions your local indigenous people practice. We live next to an indigenous reserve where they also offer some traditional events to participate in.

  • Help

    Help

We live on a beautiful 2 1/2 acre property in north Okanagan with large vegetable garden beds and 5 flower beds. They need regular attention to provide their gifts back to us, like weeding, watering, and harvesting. The lawns also need cutting regularly with the sit down mower and push mower. We would like help with keeping our wood pile stocked for sweat lodge ceremonies and to be prepared for supplementing our heating in winter. The house is a two storey 4 bedroom home where we can use some help with general cleaning and simple maintenance projects inside and out. No previous experience required.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Our home away guest will stay in their own private travel trailer, complete with queen size bed, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, sink, dishes and kitchen table. The kitchen table also folds out to a single bed. It also has a bathroom and storage areas. Sheets and towels provided. You will need to come into our home for showers. We will provide breakfast and dinner food for you to prepare and have on your own. We would share lunches in our home. If we are away for the day, we will provide lunch food for you to prepare. We don’t eat red meat like beef or pork and little processed foods. We enjoy more fresh fruit and vegetables especially when it is so abundant locally here in the summer.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Our community of Enderby has a few attractions that bring people from all over. Within 10 minutes drive there is a provincial park famous for hiking and getting panoramic views of the whole valley. Also there is a long river where people put in their boats or flotation tubes and leisurely drift down the river. There are also scenic waterfalls just a 15 minute walk from our house. There is no local bus service on our road, but we can pick you up and drop you off in town which is a 12 minute drive away. All the basics you would need are there like bank, post office, drug store, restaurants, etc. We also have bicycles you can borrow. We are a drug and alcohol free property. We honour and respect our sacred sanctuary and ask that that all visitors do the same in return.
