Description
Now is the time to come here! Well, really, the planting, weeding and harvest is done so things are quieter here workwise. Camp is NOT in session until June... sounds empty? well not really because the village is thriving.
We raise grass fed beef, and farm an acre of vegetables and fruit trees in the fantastic Mattole River Valley in Humboldt County 1 1/2 hours south of Eureka and 5 hours north of San Francisco.
We would love Workawayers to help with Planting, cultivating, and harvesting, helping on the Family Farm. Camp under the maple tree or upstairs in the barn apartment, often do yoga with the community, swim in the river daily starting in May.
During July you might help teach what you’ve learned to visiting children from our nearby Camp, a summer program for low income children. At other times our volunteers could go on their day with the Mattole Restoration Council. We provide food and we cook a yummy meal daily.
A volunteer would stay at our ranch, learning and helping several hours a day. We have bicycles. There is no public transportation locally but hitching and biking are an option. We can easily get you rides to/from Eureka or Arcata through our ride/share group.
We are also looking for Camp Counselors on our ranch Interested? ask us for our emailsTypes of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
An opportunity here to do "community studies" because we live in an old time and progressive place where people of all ages celebrate and share life together. You might help at the community center or plan some music fun at our elder Ruth's 94th birthday, and more.
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
Time here to learn and teach to others. You need to be willing to get going on a project, be independent and ready to do the work so there's time to swim in the lovely Mattole River, help out at the neighboring children's summer camp, ride a bike to the local market. So Much here!

Upstairs barn is a full and super comfy apartment. Sometimes 4 folks. A nice bathroom and kitchen too. Wifi available. Or you can go down to the river and sleep under the stars. NO mosquitos, phew. We provide food and sometimes cook together
What else ...
Time off? Sunday sauna? Ride one of our bikes? Community basketball ? Hike down the famous and fine Lost Coast. We are also 40 minutes from the redwood trees too. Yoga? Soaking in the River is fabulous.

Matt showed up and jumped right in to everything. He quickly figured out our rhythm, and came in and out of our daily lives with finesse. He worked hard digging new homes for the fruit trees, helped put up rafters on a new cabin, and did my "required community studies" at the community center breakfast and at a nearby ranch. 3 weeks went by… read more
