    About the owner:
    Hi, I am Paul!
Grow up within the community, I was working as a fisherman for 20 years. After living in the UK for a while I decided to come back to Jamaica. We started this project in 2007, started hosting guests end of 2014. And since that time, depending on the income coming from hosting and tours we are working on improving the ECO village and the surroundings. So far, working with locals only we were able to achieve the following:
    - Build a secured path with steps to reach the main house
    - Build a second floor
    - Convert the ground floor into “Hostel” space
    - Refurbish the cottage next to the house
    - Set the ground for a Yoga deck on the roof top
    - …

-Travellers will contribute to local development
-Travellers will learn a lot from this experience by being based in this very special local, Jamaican Community.
-Living and working in a community, assisting in its improvement will be very educational…
-Experiencing living in a place where many people make a living, or just eat, from the land and sea will be learning skills for life.
-The Treasure beach community will welcome the Travellers and share their culture with them, the best way to learn about a countries history and culture.
-Assisting with the development of putting this very special community on the map and working alongside some local people too will be very rewarding.
-Living with other volunteers from all over the world will be all about learning, sharing and supporting each other.

  • Help

    Help

As mentioned before, progress depend on funds coming from the guests, it takes a while. I have designed and built all projects using local skilled and unskilled labour. When it comes to area where no locals have skills, we used to rely on visitors/friends
When you visit, you’ll see by yourself, there’s a growing market for backpacking/off the beaten travel in Jamaica and we’ve had many requests from volunteers to help complete and run the place. One of those guests suggested to look for help from volunteers and get this project moving forward together with great people from around the globe.

At the moment we need help with:

    Gardening:
Currently most of the garden is maintained by mother nature 😊 its set up is very particular, on different levels. Our aim is to create a little veggie farm based on the permaculture principles. Remember our aim is to create an ECOmmunity – your knowledge will be shared with locals and the other way around.
Volunteers with gardening skills as well as permaculture knowledge are wanted

    Help in the house:
    - Little house work/ maintenance depending on the needs
    - Cleaning/house keeping
    - Make sure common spaces are kept clean and tidy
    - Laundry and other chores

    Cooking/shopping:
    - If needed: grocery shopping in Black River
    - Cooking for the team

    Other:
    Yoga/Pilates classes for guests
You are welcome to bring ideas and engage with a new project while you here 😊 as we are always seeking to improve our place

    Accommodation

We are based on the hills facing the frenchman’s bay in Treasure beach, just 300 meters from the beach. Our guest house can accommodate up to 15 people, rooms are spread over 2 floors. As mentioned the house is on the hills therefore there are about a 100 stairs to climb in to reach it, no need to tell that volunteers must be fit 😊

You'll get 2 meals daily based on 5 hours work and accommodation, and will be staying in the main house, separated from the guests but benefiting from the great ocean view too.
The volunteer floor in the house has :
    -A shared bathroom
    -A shared kitchen/living room
    -A dorm with real beds
-Real single beds will be provided, volunteers should bring their own sleeping bag as well as mosquito net.
If you wish to sleep in a hammock bring it over we’ll find space for you!

We also give two days a week off so this allows you to visit the country by your own means.

In the village you can find restaurants and bars as well as little convenient stores. The nearest cities are Black River and Junction where you’ll find great market, supermarkets and everything you might need during your stay.
