    Description

John and I are building our retirement space on Salt Spring Island. We love people, the environment and social justice. John is retired and I work at a local community college. Our children are grown (one is in post secondary, the other three are married and in their 30's) and we are grandparents to toddlers! We love music festivals, hiking, kayaking, and visiting. We love our bit of land and are working away at making it somewhat self sustaining. We have a bunny and hope to get some chickens in the coming year. Our projects are small, enjoyable and mostly outdoors. We live in an incredible environment of rain forests, ocean, lakes, farms, vinyards, lavender farms, artists, cheese farms and breweries!

About the community of Salt Spring, some orchard techniques, some planting and general hobby farm skills. Culturally we live on unceeded Indigenous lands and have some beautiful nature consevancies nearby and we are very close to a rainforest/park and disc golf play area. We are minutes by foot to our local village. We are very laid back, we love art, music and sustainable practices.

Hello, we are looking for people who love to garden, landscape, work on small projects, using wheelbarrows, gloves and some small equipment (lawn mower, rototiler). We look forward t wiring a chicken shed, painting outbuildings, cleaning, sorting and organizing. We have pruning in our orchard to do and planting. We'll also be watering plants and building some gardening areas. We need some small repairs on patio.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a bedroom or a small trailer, a shared bathroom. We would provide meals, but also would appreciate if you could also help yourself to meals when we may not be able to attend to every meal. Flexibility is key in this work-a-way.
