    Description

The Nadine Foundation's primary mission is to provide free access to children from villages in the mountainous region of Phu Chi Fa.

We are an association and language project that was set up to give children the chance to live the life they want to lead. Starting out as a short term rental and English tutoring in Chiang Mai, the project grew and the Hmong community of Phu Chi Fa asked me to come and help the local children with their English. I'm now based in the region to help the community and in particular the children, to give them the chance to choose between the hard life in the fields and studying to get out of poverty.

The Nadine Education needs all the goodwill wanting to have a positive impact on the world.
To do this, the foundation opens its doors to an international aid platform.
As the project is mainly aimed at helping children, the foundation reserves the right to make a rigorous and careful selection.

Currently; the foundation provides English lessons to more than 70 children's villagers per week as well as classes for adults occasionaly throughout the Phu Chi Fa area. The foundation offers cultural and educational outings for children by encouraging excellence and openness to the world.

The foundation can accommodate up to six volunteers spread across several villages to teach.
Dao’s kitchen was set up by offering the possibility of eating organic products supporting the local economy.

Two weeks minimum to stay with us but Nadine Education reserves the right to shorten the stay if the conditions are not respected.

Don't hesitate to follow us on our YouTube channel by typing nadine education as well as to talk about it around you to support us for those who cannot travel but want to make their contribution: gofundme Nadine education.

During your voluntary work, you'll be immersed in the hmong community and its adorable children. You'll be able to discover the local culture, its cuisine and Thailand off the beaten track. As the responsable of the project, Nadine, who speaks hmong, Thai, French and English, will be delighted to share the local culture with you.

    Help

The project is looking for help to give English lessons at weekends for kids in between 5 and 15.
The lessons can be given alone or in groups, but usually by pairs.

During the week, depending on the volunteer's wishes, help can be provided for the association's projects, otherwise he/she is free to enjoy the surrounding area: hiking, camping, picking in the fields, etc.
The main place where classes are taught has a large classroom and can accommodate six volunteers around.

Here is the structure of a typical school's day (Saturday and Sunday):

    -At 8.30 am :
    We welcome children
    -From 9 am to 11.30am:
Lessons with short breaks ( 15min)
    -11.30 to 12.30:
Lunch time ( you stay with the children)
    -From 12.30 to 14.30:
Role play games, sport, art, culture... be creative :)
(You wait until the last children left)

    Important informations:

-We do not refuse any children so be prepared to manage large classes with different levels
-We reward the most motivated students
-We organize knowledge tests once a month
    -Multi-level classes are set up
-We do not require expert teachers, only goodwill, love for children and active interaction are important.
-To help you and prepare your lessons as best as possible, we use the "Sam and Mel english program": Sam and Mel youtube channel with free access to the first three lessons
-Be aware that teaching requires a minimum of preparation !
-Here a youtube channel for songs and inspiration : British council kids youtube channel
    - Be focus on the most used words in the English language, not quantity but quality
-For a better structure, we will ask you to follow the lesson history and keep your class diary up to date

Lunch is covered during school days.

Please note that during the Thai school holidays (mid-March to mid-May), Nadine Foundation doubles its classes to 4 days a week instead of 2 days!!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

I have two screened bedrooms with outdoor toilet and kitchen and moreover, we can provide sleeping space around the place.

The association is not for profit, so the rental of the classroom area, school materials, the rental of the room for the volunteers and transport are all costs for the association.

In order to contribute to these costs, and in view of the accessibility of food, Nadine is offering you a flat rate of 5€/day to contribute to the association's costs by taking care of your dinner only.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

To get there, take a Chiang Rai bus leaving from platform 2 at 7.30am / 12.30pm or 5.30pm towards Chiang Khan. You will need to get off at Thoeng, where you will be picked up and taken to the village.

A little practical advice: having your own means of transport allows you to move around freely, otherwise a solution will always be found if you want to get around.

Please note that our location is in the remote area and the food is from local farms. This request is purely ethical, so that the association does not have any extra costs due to the volunteers and so that the donations go directly to the children.

The foundation has already been able to support many volunteers from all over the world by offering room and board and immersing themselves in local life so here some practical informations:

-Very independent and radiant spirits are called

-The Nadine foundation declines all responsibility in the event of loss, theft or incidents outside the areas reserved for workawayers

    - Please remember that you have 5 days off outside of the Thai school holidays and that you are required to organize your day if we don't offer you anything

-Laundry is included in the price (not the powder)

-The evening meal is offered to you (often at sunset)

-Breakfast and lunch are at your expense (40 bath for lunch at our restaurant)

-A large container of water is available in the kitchen if you are thirsty (Beers , cokes and water bottles are chargeable)

-It is forbidden to open the fridges without authorization from the staff for any use.

-Remember to have enough money to pay for your stay the day before departure.

-Gasoline is expensive, we try to centralize and optimise our trips between the small town and the village if you have significant needs, please be aware

-You may be asked for an emergency number to contact your family

    -We can do vegetarian meals

-Don't forget that you are in a remote village, the days start early and people go to bed quite early

And most important bring your positive energy, enjoy and be open to differences and village mentalities, don't judge, leave your Western conceptions, you are in a unique place ^^
