Description
We are a family of 3 people. I’m a teacher. My husband is a professor at a very famous medical school in Thailand. He also works at Private hospitals too. He is an ENT doctor. Our son is 10 year olds who can speak perfect English. He studied Grade 4 in the USA.

Thailand is famous for festivals and celebrations that strongly reflect Thai cultural and traditional values. Most Thai festivals are associated with Buddhist and Brahman beliefs, though many derive from local traditions and folklore. You will love to learn about Thai culture and traditions.

Help
Native English speaker is needed to help at my school near Bangkok, Thailand. This is your opportunity for a great experience!
Our students range from young children just beginning to learn English, to teenagers.
College degree is not required, and we will train you to teach with our manuals.
You will need proof of vaccination for Covid, and of course, your passport to come here.
Your schedule would be to teach on Saturday and Sunday, only these two days each week for whole
day (Except for Oct and March-April-May we have English Camp from Monday to Friday too). We have private students on weekdays but only 1-2 hours in the evening. We also record teaching VDO on weekdays sometimes This may be classroom or in person.
In exchange for your services, we will provide you accommodations every day. These accommodations include utilities and internet, and a maid who will clean, take care of laundry, and will prepare meals for you.
We live in a nice area, which has a park and gym within walking distance. Thailand is beautiful and the people are friendly. Travel and other activities are very inexpensive in Thailand.
We hope you will consider joining us!
In sum, you expect to help teaching on Sat and Sunday about 6 hours per day starting 9 am and help with other social media or teaching on VDOs on weekdays you can organize your own time. We offer a bedroom with an air conditioner in our house (no bed but we have sofa bed) and mattress) next to the bathroom. You can have access to our kitchens any time. Our maid can help to cook very simply food or you can cook your own food in our kitchen. You might need to buy your special own drinks milk coffee tea. 7-11 shop is 5 mins walk from home.

You can travel during your time off. Thailand is a beautiful country and cheap to travel. It’s so easy to get around. Our house is not far from the sky train. We maybe can offer a driver for you sometimes too.

I volunteered at Annie's school for a little over a month, staying a little longer than Austin – who posted a review on October 4th, 2023. We had similar experiences and impressions of the project, but whereas Austin focused more on video editing, most of the non-teaching work that I did focused on recreating exams to make them more legible and… read more presentable. This was a lot of work that kept me quite busy, so I am grateful that Annie gave me a chance to take on such responsibilities – especially right as she was about to acquire a volunteer from North America. I guess I was fortunate to have contacted Annie at a time when two volunteers were better suited for the workload than just one.

Despite being pretty busy, I still had time to explore the local area - especially during weekdays. There are a few temples in the area that I was able to visit, but walking around this part of Nonthaburi is not normal nor easy like it is in Bangkok. (Nonthaburi is a province that neighbors Bangkok, and although it is connected to Bangkok by the MRT/subway system, it is a lot more like a car-centric suburb than a city.)

If you're an adventurous person who likes to travel and explore places, here is my advice on getting around Nonthaburi and beyond:

1. Take the MRT to get to/from this part of Nonthaburi from Bangkok. Don't even think of taking a city bus, especiallyto go from Nonthaburi to Bangkok. One Saturday morning I tried to take a city bus into Bangkok so that I could travel with my friend, but I had to cancel my plans after waiting over an hour at the bus station and literally seeing zero buses. *

2. Keep an eye out for unleashed, unsupervised dogs while walking around. They are likely to make a lot of noise if you walk in their general direction, but the real danger is they may sneak up on you from behind and bite your heel or leg. If that happens, you'd best go to a hospital ASAP and get series of rabies shots. This is a big problem in much of Thailand outside of Bangkok, and Nonthaburi is no exception.

3. If you're going to change money rather than withdraw Thai Baht from an ATM and get ripped off with the crazy ATM fees that all Thai banks charge, be sure to visit money changing businesses in Bangkok before going to other parts of the country. Your best bet it to visit Super Rich and the handful of other money changers that are all within very short distance of each other near the CentralWorld shopping mall in Ratchathewei district. Some parts of Thailand have literally no money changing businesses, and the exchange rates that the banks will give you is even worse than paying the high fee they charge every time you use one of their ATMs.

I am a trained, professional teacher and am happy to say that I enjoyed working with most of the students attending Annie's school. Many of them are are highly motivated and have a good attitude toward learning cooperating with teachers. Much of the face-to-face time that volunteers spend with students a classroom is spent coaching them as they go through their own book at their own pace, not delivering once-size-fits-all lessons to all the students at the same time. This is in line with many of the principles of modern education, and I'm sure the students appreciate the individualized attention they receive.

I can read and write Thai, and some students were very excited to see that I could transliterate English words in Thai script for the sake of aiding their pronunciation.

Annie is kind and accommodating. She, her husband, and her son are friendly people. I found it easy to get along with them as well as their maid, who consistently prepared yummy dishes for volunteers as well as the family.

I love both Thai food and spicy food, and am happy with the food that was served. Despite being Thai, Annie is not very fond of spiciness, so most of the food will not be spicy unless you get something made spicy for you by special request. If you can't tolerate Asian food or are a very picky eater, you may prefer to join other projects unless you're okay with getting food for yourself.

* = Weekends are when you should expect a full schedule if you will volunteer when camp activities are not going on. In my case, I had made arrangements to end my participation in the project by the time that weekend came. However, Annie recognized the contributions I had made and invited me to take that weekend off and continue volunteering once I got back. Since I didn't end up going out of town that weekend, I returned to help with the weekend classes and continued volunteering for another few weeks. The point I'm making is that you should definitely talk to Annie about your plans if you want to volunteer but think you might be away during a weekend.
