Description
We are a Franco-American couple living in a small town near Lyon. We have two daughters, 17 and 21, three horses (paint, quarter horse and mustang) and two rescue cats. We live on three hectares of land (mostly pastures for the horses and some forest) as well as a small vegetable garden in progress. Our oldest daughter is studying in Australia and our youngest is at home with us. There are many things to enjoy in our area including hiking, biking and horse riding trails. The small medieval village of Pérouges is 35 to 45 minutes away by walking and the Pérouges-Meximieux train station is 4km from our home (trains to Lyon (18 to 32 minutes) and Geneva (2-3 hours)). The hiking trail "GR de Pays du Beaujolais au Bugey par la Dombes" is within a short walking distance. We can spend time with you to familiarize you with the horses, and although not qualified as riding instructors we can help with some beginner's riding, or if you are experienced you may be able to ride two of our three horses in the Western riding style (the third is a Mustang in the process of being trained). We practice natural horsemanship with soft hands. From May to October (or anytime for the braver swimmers!) you can enjoy our swimming pool with a lovely view of the forest and hills.

We speak French most of the time at home, but often with a mix of English. We are well-traveled and like to experience other cultures. You can experience living in a small town in a pittoresque environment, learn and exchange experiences about horses and gardening and cooking, and spend time on activities such as hiking, biking, swimming and horses.

Help
There are always small things that need some work, especially related to maintaining the pastures, forest, vegetable garden, yard and grounds, pool maintenance and taking care of the horses (brushing, hoof picking, occasional fly mask in the summer, cleaning the water points, and providing hay at certain times of the year. The horses have open access to the small stables and shelters that may need some light mucking out, depending on the season. We would love to exchange experiences on horse techniques and care as well as to learn any gardening tips for our beginner vegetable garden. Help and ideas on evening meals is also appreciated!
