Livingston is a truly unique town in Guatemala. This is the only place in the country where you will have the chance to get to know Garifuna culture, music and cuisine! The mix of Garifuna, Maya and Ladino culture makes this a very special and different place, indeed. Because you can only reach this town by water it's very safe and you can really take part in the local life of this fishing village!

    Help

We are searching for enthusiastic and social English/Spanish-speaking volunteers to help us!
Ideally we would like to have 2 volunteers at a time (minimum 1 month, about 25 hours a week) to help our staff with reception, check-in, reservations, tourist information and other activities around our hotel.

We have a young team of local people at the reception and although they understand some English they are very hesitant to speak it. We would love it if you would be able to act as an intermediate and on top of that help to motivate them and teach them some more English ´on the job´ (we are not looking for an English teacher or English classes).
Obviously, for this we require you speak some Spanish, but don´t worry if your Spanish is not perfect, we will be very happy to help you improve your Spanish during your stay with us!

One volunteer does the morning shift, one volunteer helps the afternoon shift. If we have only one volunteer it is possible we will ask you to help a split shift (a couple of hours in the morning and a couple in the end of the afternoon). Please, take this into account when you are applying as a couple: you will not be doing the shifts together and you probably will not have the same days off!

Sometimes it is possible to help in other activities as part of your hours: traveling guitarists that can provide some live music during happy hour, yoga instructors willing to teach some classes or creative people to improve the place with some artistic touch!

We offer you a room in the shared, upstairs loft. The loft is an open, spacey wooden house with a wonderful view over the river and a cool river breeze. On top of this you get three meals a day (or if you prefer to cook your own meals, you can use the kitchen), free internet & a volunteer discount at the bar. And of course you get to hang out and relax in our hammocks and garden...

    What else ...

Volunteers will have plenty of time off that you can use to travel around, party in town, explore the beaches, kayak the river and hike through the jungle!
To make sure you get to know this wonderful area, somewhere during your stay we always try to arrange a free boat trip for our volunteers to the white beaches of Playa Blanca or the lush, green Cayon of the Rio Dulce!
