    Description

Hi, we are a couple of retired but active ex travellers on a lifestyle block, with a few sheep and chooks, and an old house with a nearly organic veggie patch and garden, looking for some help around the property in exchange for some food and board.

This beautiful and special part of New Zealand deserves to be on your itinerary, but often gets missed in favour of the tourist hot spots.
We speak english and can attempt french.
We are flexitarian and make our own bread most days- depends upon how hungry you are! I'll do the cooking, but you are welcome to help- show us your favourites recipes too.
Vegetarian meals are frequent, but I have yet to master gluten free bread.
Sustainable gardening as much as possible, and small holder farming practise e.g. sheep management.

  • Help

    Help

general physical tasks outdoors, wood chopping and stacking, mowing, weeding, shepherding, looking for eggs, emptying gutters, painting etc etc! We can teach you any skills you may not already have. Jono has motor neurone disease, and is slowly losing the use of his arms and legs. You would not be involved in any of his care, but he needs help around the property for things that he is struggling with.

Although we are both pakeha ( non maori) we are more than harikoa ( happy) to pass on our knowledge of te reo ( the maori language ) and maori tikanga. ( culture) It’s a rawe ( awesome) culture and you get a deeper appreciation of this country if you know more about it.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Own room in the house, 1 double bed, and separate own shower and toilet. Rain collection is our water tank supply so no to long showers - unless the weather is rainy! !

  • What else ...

    What else ...

National park tramping and huts or surf beaches within a few Km, large park next door with brilliant mountain trails . There is no public transport from the town to here so you will need your own, use an uber or come with us if we are going to town. Cycling is NOT recommended on the main road- too dangerous, but there is a cool MTB track from our back yard to town that requires time and a bit of effort! There is parking on the grass in the orchard for your van if required.
