Description
We are a French/English couple (who speak to each other in Spanish for anyone wanting to practice). We have a beautiful piece of land with 6000metre squares in the village of Guachaca next to a crystal clear river about 30 minutes walk from the carribean ocean. We have recently opened to the general public our camping/hostel that has various types of accomodation and will eventually have a restaurant and a pirate ship bar. We have built 2 cabins, 4 dormitories and a hammock area and what we can proudly say are some of the best bathrooms in the Caribbean. We do almost all the construction ourselves and can always do with a little extra help in carrying out our tasks especially now that we not only have construction to work on but also general tasks now that we have the hostel up and running. We have 4 lovely dogs, and 2 cats and we enjoy the company of many other animals that come and go including a family of monkeys that live in the tree in front. We are covered in fruit trees including avocado, mango, papaya and coconut, amongst others. We not only sell these we also use them to make interesting products such as coconut oil. We work hard but we also play hard, we are both music lovers, we both DJ, mostly techno music and we have a soundsystem which we use to organise underground parties in the area, both big and small. We sleep in an old north american school bus that´s been converted into a house.
Types of help and learning opportunities
Art ProjectsHelp with Eco ProjectsTeachingGardeningDIY and building projectsAnimal CareCreating/ Cooking family mealsHospitality/TourismGeneral MaintenanceCultural exchange and learning opportunities
We have many friends in the area and we all tend to get involved with each other´s projects, many involving local communities, for example a friend´s circus festival in a nearby village and workshops in working with local products. We also hold small events at our place involving the local community here in Guachaca with the idea of having a positive impact around us. Anyone who comes to stay can join us in all the things we do, you will have the opportunity to get to know a different side of the Colombian Carribean and enjoy many wonders that most tourists never get to.
Help
We are looking for help in all areas. At the moment especially in contruction of pirate ship and in the general running of the hostel. We also need help with many general things including the veg patch, we have a lot of plantain trees that need maintaining. Fencing, tree planting, raking, painting, furniture making, cleaning, For any artists out there we have lots of creative space and love all forms of art. Dogsitting, and well anything else that might come up...everyday is different!

Accomodation will be in tent (which we can provide with covers and mattress) or a bed whenever one is free (which is most of the time at the moment). The idea is accomodation and lunch in exchange for 4 or 5 hours work a day, I'm a certified chef and can easily accomodate different diatery requirements and promise that lunches will be varied and substantial. You would be expected to fend for yourself for breakfast and dinner, of course you are welcome to have dinner with us but we expect you to contribute your fair share. There is full access to the kitchen and it is very well equipped.
What else ...
We live a short walk from shops and the main highway which goes from Santa Marta to Palomino and beyond, where you can take a bus to any nearby places on the route. We are just 7km from Tayrona park and a short walk or busride away from a million other natural wonders (beaches, waterfalls etc.). We have surfboards and fishing rods and tubing rings.
