Description
This project aims to transform an abandoned farm into a shelter/home for a variety of animals in need of care. Due to the unfortunate recent death of the farm owner, her many dogs, cats, ducks, a donkey and a horse were left without enough attention and care. Initially we plan to improve the living conditions of these animals, with a sustainable program in which volunteers come and take care of them. We know through experience that a paid employee is not the best option as we cannot measure their love for animals. To be able to make it more sustainable, we plan to host our volunteers in turns. By the end of each volunteer visit the next volunteer(s) will arrive so the information collected about the animals will pass on.
The next phase of the project will be to improve the habitat of these farm animals in which we find the best solutions for their shelter, food and social interaction. This process will need counselling from professionals with experience of designing shelters since we plan to increase the capacity so to host other in need animals and be able to give them a chance of adoption by visitors of our farm.Types of help and learning opportunities
Animal CareUN sustainability goals this host is trying to achieve
Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
The travellers unique experience except the undefinable peace of helping out animals will consist of,
- Experiencing the farm life, having a piece of mind in nature
- Interaction and cooperation with the farm workers (Despite the language barriers, working for a common purpose)
- Interaction and cooperation with other volunteers and the project coordinators
- Taking responsibility in a charity purpose organization
- Weekly off days to have touristic activities and experience Turkish culture, Istanbul is an hour distance by train or a vehicleHelp
All animals in the farm urgently need love and attention. The dogs need to be walked in turns, cats need to be petted. In short all the help that is necessary is to show all those animals that they are cared, loved and not alone.

The volunteer(s) will stay in comfortable farm houses which were initially constructed for touristic purposes in early 2000s. They will have a place of their own with a personal bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room and study area. Major appliances, a good internet connection and food will be provided. The farm life is perfectly quiet and slow so it's best for people who can work off grid, like to be isolated in nature, or wants to take a break from the city life.
What else ...
The location of the farm has variety of activity options for the time offs. It is an hour distance by fast train or vehicle to the beautiful city of Istanbul, city of Bursa is also 1.5 hours distance. The location is surrounded by natural touristic areas. There are two lakes (Sapanca, Iznik) nearby, some beautiful beaches of the Black Sea are also in a hour distance.
