Beschreibung

Hey, we are Rebekka and Jonas, a couple from Switzerland embarking on a big trip in August 2023. Jonas has been working for six years in IT as a programmer, while I just finished my education as a journalist. Now we are both taking some time off to see the world and to hopefully experience everyday life with different people and in different cultures. We want to try workaway as a way of travel to lesser known places and to easily meet locals. We are eager to learn new skills and are fast learners.

We both like to be in nature. Be it hiking, (less than average :P) climbing or just discovering new wonders. This is the first time that we are travelling for such a long time. Therefore, we are both a bit nervous, but are looking forward to great experiences. We are both a bit introverted but we are looking forward to putting our social skills to the test :).

We would be very interested to learn some Spanish! But we are also generally interested in languages. While we have never taught a language, we would like to teach some German and English.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Jonas:
I have been working in IT as a professional Software Engineer for the past 6.5 years. I know my way around computers and websites. Through volunteer work, I had the chance to gather some experience with managing Social Media content.

I have also been part of a local scouts group since 2018 and learned some valuable team and communications skills there as group leader and section leader. I’m able to guide a group of children / young adults (10-16) and through camps have some basic experience in managing finances (up to 20’000.-), planning a schedule and safety. From the scout camps I know a bit about simple, and I mean simple :), constructions with wood and ropes (20 people tents, outdoor kitchens etc). In general, scouting has taught me quite a bit of manual work.

In my freetime, I like to learn about various topics. Currently, I’m trying to get better at Photography and Filmmaking. I carry a camera and some simple sound equipment with me to always be ready, if the opportunity arises.

Rebekka:
I have been working as a journalist in Switzerland for about three years now and have also finished my studies in this field. I can write, know my way around photography and can make small videos.

I am part of a scout group and have mostly experience with guiding small children (age 4 to 7). During the camps I have worked in the kitchen, meaning I was cooking for about 30 people, including planning the menus.

I have some experience in working with animals. When I was younger, I used to ride horses. Sadly, I haven’t had the time to do it lately, but would welcome it, if the chance ever arose again. I have some more experience with dogs, since I’m owning one for about nine years now. In general, I like animals very much and would like to learn more about caring for them.

Was noch ...

We have a big love for food and are therefore very much interested in learning the recipes of different local specialties. We are also interested in Film making and Writing and would like to learn more about either subject. In our free time we also enjoy playing and learning new games (card, board or video) with our friends :)
