My stay at Brian's place in Loreto was wonderful! It was very cool to see everything he was working on across the land to implement permaculture practices. My help was mostly needed with weeding, which I found to be very meditative and calming, although I also learned how to prune cacao trees (and machete some grass one day!) Since it's still early days for his project, which only started in November, it was cool to feel like I was making a difference in helping transform the land back to being more of a "food forest" than the agricultural crops it was most recently used for by replacing the grass with more nitrogen-dense alternatives (like a cute little plant called pinto peanut) around the land, helping with geting caught up on pruning to allow for more cacao fruit to grow, and offering any ideas that came to mind. I also learned a ton about permaculture from the other volunteer staying there the same week. Brian genuinely wanted me to enjoy my time there and was sure to check in on if I liked what I was working on, and encouraged me to take breaks. He was also a great teacher, and I learned a lot about the basics of gardening and permaculture from him. I had plenty of time to hang out on the hammocks, go for a swim in the nearby river, and play some guitar in between stints of work, especially during the midday when the sun was hottest! We had some fun music jams at night, and one of my projects was even to make a bamboo pan flute from scratch using only a handsaw, which was so fun!! The weather in Loreto really was also really great, sunny and hot during the day with refreshing rainstorms passing in and out, and cool enough at night to sleep comfortably. It's very simple living true to Brian's description, and was very peaceful and quiet. I also felt very safe with Brian and the local community, and folks in Ecuador were quick to try to help me out or answer my questions throughout my time there. It's a bit of a journey to get to Brian's from Quito, approximately 5-7 hours via bus to Loreto and then taking the bus or a taxi to Brian's place, although the directions were clear and as Brian says, no one has gotten lost yet :) Oh, I also ate some AMAZING fruit, and am excited for future volunteers to get even more when younger fruit trees grow in! Thanks Brian for a great stay!!

Mick & Megan, you truly were the hosts of all hosts. Not only is your Guest House so beautiful, you made us feel at home. I can't quite put into words how fantastic our experience was, from morning chats, to being out on the boat, to recommended local trips - it was all we wanted. The room we stayed in was lovely and private, the communal areas were spacious and the garden was glorious. We were so sad to leave, but cannot be selfish in keeping this experience just for ourselves. Every Workaway must visit, you will not regret it! Plus, the Whitsunday Islands are breathtaking - the true Australian dream.

Homa only had one day to get to know each other at my place, but she immediately got involved in the work and helped in the harvesting and cleaning of strawberries in a professional manner. She created a cheerful atmosphere with his personality. Thank you for your help and I hope we will be able to work together many more times. I'll wait for you after the your exams

We had the most amazing experience in Bellingen - Rowan, Martina and Debbie were so welcoming and great to talk to. Bellingen is a beautifully interesting town with lots to do, and the Guest House itself provides the perfect home. An abundance of wildlife on their doorstep, you can really switch off and engulf yourself in the nature. Every Workaway must complete a stint here, as we would do it all over again!

Staying with Pam was a very nice and relaxing experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, were never hungry and had lots of animals to cuddle! Pam had lots of little jobs for us (which worked well for us) this included adding a new fence post, reorganising the hay stacks, clearing out an old office room, weeding etc. Pam taught us about horses, and also really enjoyed cooking us homemade recipes with her various pickled specialties and we really enjoyed the eating of said delicious food and the lovely conversation around the dinner table! Pam very much lives in the country, and has a very beautiful sunset view. I would definitely recommend this very kind lady and her cute animals for any workawayer! 😊

I loved my one-month stay here. The community's warmth and vibrancy hooked me, but meditation and Buddist discussions were powerful, and I left feeling optimistic and inspired. The vegan food was really good, even as a meat-eater, often followed by a sauna session next to the spring most weeks. For work, I could choose tasks I enjoyed, learning more carpentry skills, constructing stone paths or cooking for 20+ people, mixed with relaxed days working in the garden... not to mention fun team-building activities like assembling a yurt! Thank you to the community for welcoming me, I hope to return soon.

This place has now got a very special place in my heart! This was my first workaway and I am leaving having learnt and experienced so much! Jenny and Karl made me feel welcome and at home from the very start, they really are the most amazing hosts! I spent 3 months here helping out during a very busy calving season and yes it was hard work at times but I would do it all again! There is never a dull moment in the farmyard and I love it :) A very big thank you for hosting me these few months! I'm leaving here with a very happy heart and lifelong memories! Over and out for now but I know I'll definitely be back to visit whenever I come to Ireland again 🤍🇮🇪

I had an unforgettable time staying with Luis for 10 days. Our tasks were varied and Luis gave us the same freedom to do things we were best at as well as the basic tasks. There were lots of volunteers staying there at the time so it was very sociable as well. Luis also helped us organise activities on our days off. Would recommend this to anyone!

Karolina & Eemil were such a nice respectful couple. We were delighted to host them. Both appreciated their privacy & were very respectful of ours. Any work we asked them to do was done well & with enthusiasm. We were away on family business and our dog and home place was looked after so well. We couldn't recommend these two highly enough. Thanks again and have a lovely summer

I spent two weeks with Gayle and Alan and their daughter and son in May, and even in that short span of time, I felt comfortable and at home! They were very welcoming, and clear and upfront about what to expect, which was great. Most of my time I was by myself (which was one of the expectations communicated ahead of time), as both Gayle and Alan have their full time jobs. The family was away for a long weekend in Dublin, but other than that, I would usually see them in the evenings for family dinners, which were vegetarian and very tasty. I was able to get into a pretty steady rhythm and routine here, which I really appreciated. Typically, I would do three hours of work in the morning, have lunch and relax a bit, then do two hours in the afternoon. After that, I'd go exploring (hiking, walking, cycling, etc.) or just chill out. In terms of work, I mostly helped out with their polytunnel. I worked on cleaning the outside of the plastic - which, even though it's not the most interesting of activities, was very satisfying to accomplish!! I also got to work inside the polytunnel, doing weeding and transplanting. I love getting my hands in the soil, so this made me pretty happy :). The polytunnel is just overall a pleasant place to be in. There's even a lemon verbena shrub in there, which smells heavenly every time you brush past it. The only downside is that lots of midges (little biting flies) tend to congregate near the polytunnel, and they found that I was pretty tasty for nibbling on! Cliffoney is a beautiful place (is there any place that isn't beautiful in Ireland??) and I got to explore beaches, climb a mountain, and wade in a forest stream. And Alan took me snorkeling for the first time in my life! I also got to spend a day volunteering at the democratic school Gayle teaches at, which was a fun experience. Overall, this was a fun and relaxing way to spend my last two weeks of a 3-month long trip in Ireland, and I would recommend Gayle and Alan as great hosts.

Jeremiah is the best! Sweet, silly, helpful, flexible, and fun to hang out with. He helped out every single day with tasks, and did his best to get them done right away. Had a great time hosting him. You’ve got a good head on your shoulders and an exciting journey ahead! Welcome back anytime!

Richard was one of the best people from the USA that I ever met. He is very polite, kind and knows a lot of geography and politics (LOL) During his time here he helped us with many gardening, cleaning, and cooking tasks and shared some experiences of past travels. Our place is always open to you Richard! I highly recommend him as a volunteer :)

If we could write a novel about honesty, integrity, love, nature and community sufficient life, your family would be the first tribe that we would merge with to save the world and try to fill the whole planet with life, love and smiles because that was exactly what we shared for this past month with your amazing family. Words cannot describe how much your love, dedication, responsibility and kindness to our family are still resonating and glowing around our backyard even after you left. These five souls that you have in your family are exactly what the world needs to become happier and healthier; we ( especially the kids ) are missing you very much from the youngest to the oldest member of your clan :) Your girls are the best friends that our kids could ever imagine of having, polite, kind, eloquent, full of joy and honesty. We wanna thank you with a million hugs for all the hard work that you have put in to help us maintain and grow in this little piece of paradise, you are the best people and helpers ever because we never even needed to ask you for your help, you already knew and felt in advance what and where needs to be done. With high hopes and arms wide open, we hope to see you soon again in this beautiful nature, sharing this place and life with us for a much longer time while creating a lifelong family bond, with many healthy meals; art & music moments and gardening & building projects to accomplish together ;)

I couldn't have chosen better hosts than Rose and Lawrence for my first experience. I highly recommend them! The accommodation is great. The guest will have the opportunity to stay in a whole cottage which is normally rented out as a guesthouse and separate from the host’s house. The work is as described on the page, namely gardening and barn cleaning. Nothing too difficult! :) Rose and Lawrence are a wonderful couple, always ready to show us around and chat with us. Rose is a real mom, full of kindness and does her best to make sure everything runs smoothly. Lawrence is a very funny and communicative person. I thank him because now I know What does the fox say. I've been lucky enough to share many moments with their family and friends. Thank you for everything. You are a wonderful couple and have a very nice family. I will never forget you. Hope to see you again :)

I had the best time at Sunyata's! I stayed for 5 weeks. She was super chill. Always down for a break, show me around or bring me over to her friends'. I felt very welcomed. There wasn't really a schedule set as long as all the tasks were done. I mainly helped her with reorganising the rooms and sorting all kind of things and did some outdoor/indoor painting. She also trusted me to take care of her house and animals (1 dog and 2 cats) while she was away. I had my own room which was very spacious and with the best view on the lake. The location is great if you like water and surf. It's surrounded by lakes and the Atlantic ocean (and the beach) is a five minute walk to the house. There are also a lot of trails around. I liked that it was a peaceful place but yet close to Halifax (40min) and all the advantages a big city has to offer. If you want to explore the area it is better to have a car but not necessary. She can only host one workawayer at a time so you will be on your own most of the time to do the tasks cause Sunyata has to go to work. It takes someone independant and responsible who doesn't mind being by itself and relax like the vibes of this old farm house. I'm sure l'll be back again one day to visit Sunyata, Gizmo, October and Peppers!

I asked my family to shout out words that sum up Lesse. They said: Funny, 'on it', up for everything, appreciative, adventurous, kind, hard worker, considerate, sparky and lovable. We will miss him and couldn't recommend him highly enough. As Tim loves to say : Lesse is More!
